In one word it was for my "son". Today he came home very upset from summer camp and when I asked him why he was upset he said "is it bad to have a big tummy?" I immediately had a lump in my throat because I knew someone had teased him about his weight. My son is a sweet energetic child who enjoys karate and taking our dog for a walk... He is carrying around some extra lbs but is not obese. All I ever wanted as a parent was to spare my child things like this which is why losing this weight is so important. I want to be a good role model and show him that you can be healthier if you work at it. I'm really sad and needed to share this. Thanks for reading..

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts. My son is still feeling the sting today and after I found him doing crunches he refused to eat breakfast....I'll just keep telling him how much I love him and what a kind person he is

8 Months Out Any Questions for me?
AR40 replied to slimmindown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slim, thank you so much for helping us understand this complicated journey. What you opinion or experience related to alcohol? -
Can you have beer, wine or alcohol after you heal?
AR40 replied to bon trin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I didn't know that would happen. Haven't had a drunk yet but will let you know how it goes.I agree it's not worth the empty calories....I'm kind of bummed -

I'm confused either you have to drink slowly to not get too buzzed or no amount gives you a buzz. I've read both and not sure what the consensus is -
I've been seriously thinking about this journey and freaking myself out that I will fail again. I remember a few years ago I walked into a gym to get another high priced membership that I rarely used and nearly broke into tears telling the gym rep that I "didn't want to fail again"..... Nothing has really changed except for this surgery. I still have difficulty motivating myself to exercise which I know it's 50% of this whole thing. Those who have been doing well, how have you kept yourself motivated?

I'm hoping to get some advice on this persistent issue. I am 7 Wks post op and eat mostly soft protein and veggies, so why is constipation still a weekly issue? When I asked my doctor he just said to use Colace but I don't want to live on stool softeners for the rest of my life! I take Metamucil daily but by Fri/sat I am in excruciating pain and need a laxative on top of some Miralax for relief. What are others experiencing? I am really frustrated I have been really faithful with my protein but it's making my problem worse. Help! I would appreciate any advice. Could this be just a temporary adjustment of my body?

I was never given a calorie amount either and I won't see my doctor until August , so how do I know if I'm doing the right thing? My loss is slow but steady. I was sleeved 5/5 and have lost about 25lbs

I drink plenty of water and make sure to get my veggies in but still having issues. I already drink decaf now and then but it doesn't seem to do much for me. I will try the quest bars and MOM. Thanks everyone

So how ling have you been taking the stool softeners daily? Isn't it harmful long term?

Head hunger will always mess with your head. What helps me stay true to my healthy eating is logging it in. As soon as I see the calorie count it reminds me to stop at two fries!

Because I'm happy, clap along if you feel like a room w/o a roof.
AR40 replied to Jenelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey jenelle, so glad to hear from you again. Way to go on changing things up and getting that scale moving again. As for people at work, I think it's ok to not give them much info if you want. I am also starting to get comments but try to change the subject because it's very uncomfortable for me to talk(out loud) about being less fat I also noticed that I'm purposely wearing loose clothes so my weight loss is not so noticeable . Losing the weight is kind if messing with my head and I am avoiding talking about it with everyone, including my husband. Well hope to hear from you soon. Be well -

Hey Jenelle, good to hear from you. I too am having a slow weight loss so I know how you feel. Have you made any non weight loss goals? -
HOw is everybody doing ? I'm able to eat more foods now and glad to not have to rely on shakes n yogurt for every meal. Constipation is still a problem, but trying to find a balance in my diet. I have been taking some bites( literally one or two bites) of "no no foods" but haven't lost control. I've hit the first stall week 4, which was expected. Still feel fat but jeans are loose. I've started doing aqua aerobics which I really enjoy. Still waiting to feel pretty.....

Post-Op 4 days out...Not enough fluids?
AR40 replied to Pfaber2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's difficult to get all the liquids in at first but just keep sipping. Everyday gets better. If you feel gas take a little walk even if it's just 5-10 minutes it really helps. Remember that while you are on liquids you protein shakes and broth all count towards you 64 oz of fluids req. god bless -
I was scared of eating other food too but the boredom won out. I have moved myself out of soft foods and have done ok. I'm not eating anything drastic just soft chicken and veggies, but my taste buds are soooo greatful! Congrats in walking everyday as it helps start a healthy new habit. I highly recommend any exercise in the water because it's very soothing and low impact. Congrats on you weight loss! Keep it up and don't get discouraged by the stall, better yet expect them and keep pushing forward.

I'm 5 weeks post op and would like to make my own protein shakes but I heard we are not allowed to use a blender. What is everyone else doing to make their own shakes?
-
Thanks every one . I was told not to use a blender because of the air it puts in, but when I let it sit it separates and is not very appetizing...

Wow you look great! I am only 4 weeks post op and would appreciate any advice. I've started nibbling on some "no no" foods and need to get back on track...
-
Just had three sample cups at Menchies frozen yogurt( I'm 5 WLS post op) and not sure how to track it. It was very tasty but did not need my own serving

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you checked with your doctor regarding the pain and nausea? Everyone has different recovery unfortunately. Keep reminding yourself that things will eventually get much better. Take it easy -
