    Who did you tell?

I'm getting banded next month, and I have reservations about telling friends, coworkers and even some family members about my decision. They've all seen me lose weight on some diet/program, only to put it all back on again. I've had to tell my supervisors at work because of scheduling and sick leave concerns, but no one else at work--I don't want people watching my weight on a daily basis, checking out what I put in my mouth, etc...and I don't need their "supportive" remarks. My partner and one other close friend knows, and that's IT as far as my personal relationships go. I've yet to tell my parents (who live out of state) mainly because I hope to surprise them with the new, improved, fabulous me.... Am I being paranoid or unreasonable? Inquiring minds need to know! Hey Edd! Glad to hear you made it through...now the real fun begins! 21lbs!! Good job...I'm still trying to lose before my surgery on the 27th. I start liquids-only on the 13th, and I was wondering how you handled it and what you drank. I'm not looking forward to that phase, but I've started down this road and I'm not gonna screw it up now. Hope the gas subsides soon~

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I'm one of those getting banded in September. Just got back from the doctor and he wants me to lose 10% of my weight by my surgery date, including liquids only 2 weeks prior...that's 28 lbs in 29 days...OMG! He suggested eating only half of my regular portions. Trust me, that ain't gonna be enough...I'm not the quickest of losers. The most I've lost in a month is about 20 lbs, and that was quite a few years ago--losing has gotten slower as I've grown older! I'm sure, though, that doing liquids only for 2 weeks will speed up that loss. Needless to say, tonight is the Last Supper. Gotta blaze a path to the Precor in the other room and dust that puppy off!

    Who did you tell?

That's what bugs me--the thought that this is the "easy way out"--and as far as I can tell, that's pretty darned far from the truth. I know quite a few HWP folks who just can't give up their caffeine, sugar, nicotine, bread, etc...how about trying to give up a large part of your food intake? It p*sses me off. I'm not a weak person, in fact I think that the decision to have this procedure done in the first place takes a fair amount of courage.

    Banded with Dr. Oh

I'm from Gig Harbor. I go tomorrow for all the lab work stuff, and then I see Dr. Oh on Wednesday. I'm so encouraged by your's and Wendy's weight loss...I've been kinda wondering lately if I should have chosen the RNY route, but I think I've made the correct choice! I definitely intend on attending the support group at St. Joe's. Hope to meet the both of you! Dana

    Banded with Dr. Oh

My surgery date is 9/27 with Dr. Oh. He seems to be competent and I've heard good things about him (like he's a surgeon's surgeon--knows his stuff), but I kind of got the impression that he prefers RNY (his specialty). Did you get the same vibe? Dana

Dana Gig Harbor, WA To be banded 9/27, Dr. Oh, Federal Way, WA Thank you for the kind welcomes!
  12. Hello to All! I've been doing some voracious LBT reading for the past few days and I'm cruising through the pre-op process rather quickly. I am a patient of Dr. Oh in Federal Way, WA, and I have a surgery date of Sept. 27 scheduled. So far I've had no problems re: insurance, a topic I see gets a lot of discussion. I live in Gig Harbor, WA, and I'm a working co-parent to three young boys. I've finally decided to DO SOMETHING about all this extra weight, and I guess now is the time! I don't want to be held back in participating with my boys as they grow up and do all those fun, active things...I gotta keep up! And, I'd love to live to see them all grow old as well. Continued success to all of you amazing losers! Dana

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

My surgery is scheduled for 9/27...I had my EGD last Friday on my birthday (woo hoo) and my psych evaluation on the 20th. I have all the hospital exams on the 28th, see my doc on the 29th, see the internist 9/4, some other classes thrown in there somewhere...it's been a strange and speedy ride. I've read numerous complaints re: insurance, and I've yet to have any snags in the process. I'm a federal BCBS member, and apparently (according to my Dr.'s office) I'm pretty much a "go" when it comes to being covered...so much so that they make the surgery date FIRST and then have you get all the other appointments squeezed in between. I guess if you have a BMI of 40 or above, you're "in". We'll see.

    To be banded 9/27!

Thanks to you both for the welcome! I'm excited to be here, anxiously awaiting my surgery, and wondering what in the world I'm gonna feed my family when all I can have are liquids! I see many nights of frozen dinners in their future...:hungry:

Wow! So cool to finally find the queer folks... I'm really really new around here, but have so far read a lot of useful info. I'm scheduled for surgery 9/27, and I can't wait. One of my few fears I have is that I'm the cook for the tribe--my partner and I have 3 young boys--and I KNOW I'm gonna have attitude issues when they'll be expecting me to make something edible for them and I have to drink my meals...argh...I'll get through it. I love my partner dearly but she's pretty useless in the kitchen.
  16. Since I'm an extreme newbie, nobody knows me anyways...so here goes! -I'm a lesbian raising three boys (3,6,8), two of whom are adopted from Guatemala -My partner is a physician (radiologist) -I believe in ghosts:eek: -I once passed out in Liberace's Vegas home (the maid's room...he was already dead) -The D.C. Sniper put a new clutch in a '89 Camry for me (before he killed all those people) -I'm 12 credits away from a B.A. in communications from UNLV...that was about a million years ago That's about it for now... Dana
  17. Hey! I'm to be banded Sept. 27...just had my EGD on Friday, going for the psych exam tomorrow. Being a federal BCBS member, apparently you get the surgery date FIRST and try to get all other tests in before the big day--guess that means that approval is pretty much a done deal....whew! Actually all of this has gone rather quickly for me. It's just starting to sink in that one day I'll be a mere shade of my former self...woo hoo!!! :clap2:
