Anyone having the sleeve in april?!
Bluesea71 replied to jacquelynndiaz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to be eating more! I would suggest every three hours you have a shake. Dehydration is probably the issue. Carbohydrates are also brain food, so eliminating may be contributing to the headache as well. I have been doing a liquid diet for three days now and I'm not really hungry. I have 3 shakes during the day,and a bowl of trader joes soup at dinner. I also add unflavored protein to my crystal light and sip it all day. -
Next Wednesday, April 16th. I sent you a private message yesterday. Did you get it?

What is the best Clear Liquid protein?
Bluesea71 replied to butterfly2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An alternative is to buy unflavored Protein and add a scoop to crystal light, milo or your favorite beverage. I purchased unjury brand. I tried it in my cherry lime crystal light yesterday and it was great - although not flavorless, it didn't taste funky. I also like the syntax nectar fuzzy navel. It has a orange peach flavor. -
Liquid Diet Headaches?
Bluesea71 replied to butterfly2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi butterfly - I see we have the same surgery date of April 16th My doctor only requires me to follow a liquid diet 24 hours before surgery, but I decided to do it for a week. I've completed two days of liquids and both days I have woken up around 4-5am with pounding headaches. I gave up all processed food, fast food, caffeine and carbonation back in January, so I can rule out withdrawal symptoms. I tried to drink more Water yesterday but it still was around 32 ounces, so I suspect the headaches are from dehydration. Starting day three with the goal to drink 64 ounces. Fingers crossed the headaches go away for both of us soon! -
My doctor has the same 24 hour requirement. Which makes sense, because we have the same surgeon! Glad to hear he's consistent!

Anyone having the sleeve in april?!

I threw a few boxes of the ready made EAS Advani EDGE protein in the freezer about a month ago and thought I was on to something. Admittedly, at the time my freezer seemed to be on the way out and wasn't getting very cold, so the shakes wouldn't freeze but became kinda slushy. It was pure heaven. Then the freezer started working again and they froze solid. Lets just say when they defrosted enough to drink as a shake, the flavor and texture was NASTY. Hard to describe but like jello with Knox gelatin mixed in. Now i know why it says do not freeze on the container! Not sure how protein shakes would do as popsicles. I would wonder if the protein would break down over time when exposed to extreme hot or cold. While my surgery isn't until 4/16, I have found the ready made shakes to be the easiest way to ingest a lot of protein in a small amount of liquid. My favorite (at the moment) is the vanilla and chocolate premiere protein ready made shakes from Costco. 30 grams of protein per 11 ounces. I also add a scoop of unflavored unjury protein to my crystal light or mio beverage. I can only tolerate the power proteins if blended with ice. Problem is, Ice creates even more liquid to drink down and the blender is a no no after surgery as it creates air. Not a real big blender bottle fan here! -
I have the Fuzzy Navel flavor. I read somewhere that flavor that was the one that put them on the map, so figured I couldn't go wrong! Tastes like... A fuzzy navel. Orange-peach flavor. Good to know there's other options too. Synttax is more like juice, which i appreciate as I'm not fond of the vanilla/chocolate varieties made in a blender bottle. Blah. I found the synthax cheapest online at the vitamin shop and it had free shipping.

My doctor doesn't require a liquid diet, but I felt left out and decided to do it anyway this week! All the cool sleevers are doing it! . My surgery is April 16th. The first day has been going good.... Until I just paid my property taxes online (second installment is due by April 10th in CA.). Now I feel broke and feel like pouring myself a liquid cocktail!

The original poster asked for recommendations of a multivitamin we liked the taste of. I threw in the information regarding nutrients as there are plenty of choices on the market that taste good, but are not the "best" option nutrient wise. The one thing I do know, is that there are many different opinions shared on this board, and it's wonderful that we have each other to learn from. If people have the Internet access to read this forum, then they also have the capability to do their own research and make the best informed decision for themselves.

SF WLS- NEWBIE HERE! some insight please?
Bluesea71 replied to Moniquew123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey there - where are you in the process now? Im having surgery one week from tomorrow! -
I take two of the trader joes chewable vitamins per my dietitian's instructions. They are all water soluble vitamins, so there isn't a risk of over dosing. Apparently as sleeve patients, we need to consume over the 100% recommended as the surgery prevents us from getting all of the nutrients through food. (iI also take extra B1, B12, Iron, biotin and calcium.) I avoided all vitamins most of my life because I am super sensitive to that vitamin after taste and multi vitamins made me nauseous. Prenatal vitamins were awful and would make me puke! The trader joes chewable has a pleasant fruity taste and they don't make me feel nauseous. As a bonus, they are fairly inexpensive. Children's vitamins (Flintstones) and gummy vitamins do not provide the recommended adult dosage you need. I guess they are better than nothing, but if you're really concerned about nutrition and your vitamin Intake, i wouldn't recommend them.

Torani Sugar Free Syrups
Bluesea71 replied to smallnavajo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a Smart and Final near you, the large bottles are only $3.99 each. Much cheaper than Amazon! -
Congrats on your amazing weight loss! I have had PCOS too for the last 27 years. I'm confused by what test you are referring to that showed you still had PCOS? Testosterone levels? There is no test For PCOS. It's a collective diagnosis of symptoms. Worst yet, it never goes away, the weight loss surgery can just help improve the PCOS. Excess testosterone is stored in fat, so the theory is if you loose fat, many of the symptoms caused by excess testosterone will improve. I was able to conceive my two children (now teenagers!) with the help of clomid. I remember all too well the anxiety I felt as a teen and in my twenties thinking I would never conceive. I feel the pain others have in that position. Here's the interesting thing - after having my children, I now get my period every 29 days like clock work! Go figure! This is after never getting it on my own initially or 1-3 times a year for most of my life!

Did you have heel spurs or plantar fasciitis...
Bluesea71 replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I blame both a heel spur and plantar fascitis for the main reason that I put on weight. I used to be an hour-a-day walker for decades. That was the main way that I kept my weight in check. I developed plantar fascitis and a heel spur on the bottom of my foot that looked like an arrow head. I could rock my foot back and forth and it felt like I was standing on a rock! It got to the point that if I exercised, I couldn't walk for 2-3 days after! I tried physical therapy and special gadgets with no luck. I finally elected to have corrective surgery on it in 2008. Best and worst decision I ever made. It relieved the planter fascitis (and the bone spur was shaved down) but I have never regained full strength in my left leg. I can't hold my weight on that leg if I'm up on my tippy toes and tend to favor the other leg. Regardless, now 6 years later I am able to walk as long as I want to without any pain. I know excess weight contributes to the problem. I would suspect weight loss would help and remember to stretch! stretch! stretch! -
Your post cracked me up. I read the title and thought to myself, "we'll duh, isn't everyone overweight on this board?" Wait for it..... Yes, I can understand how exciting it will be to move from the obese category to the simply overweight category. Woo hoo here's looking forward to entering the normal category soon!

I'm scheduled for surgery April 16th too! Stay in touch with your progress.

My surgery isn't until April 16th so I'm not not talking from experience here.... But could chewing gum partly satisfy the desire to chew? Let me know! I may have to same issue in a few weeks!

Funny - one of the buddies I made on this forum taught me how to silence the IV alarm as a tool to get ready for surgery. I sure hope I can figure it out. There's some button you press down and hold until the sound goes off. Pay attention to what the nurses do next time!

All Of Me WLS documentary on tomorrow!
Bluesea71 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
PBS has a new independent lens documentary airing tomorrow night called "All Of Me: a story of love, loss and last resorts." The experiences of three obese women who undergo weight-loss surgery are chronicled. Included: the misunderstandings and prejudices that surround obesity; the psychological many have with food. I live on the west coast and it is airing at 10pm here. -
Concerned about bougie size, what was yours?
Bluesea71 replied to MorganO87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is removed. It is just a tool they put in the stomach and the tool they use to cut/staple the stomach butts against it on the outside. If you look under other things I've posted on this site, I actually posted a video of the actual surgery. I didn't find it gross and found it informative to know exactly what they would be doing surgically The procedure actually didn't look that difficult! It helped ease my nerves. -
EGD this friday ..... Im nervous !

I don't even know what it is, so I guess not! What is it and what's the purpose? -
Concerned about bougie size, what was yours?
Bluesea71 replied to MorganO87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone else on this forum posted this picture a few months ago that I found helpful. It gives you a visual of how big these different sized tools are. There really isn't much of a difference between them. Remember, smaller isn't always better. There are plenty of stories on this forum of people having stomachs made so restricted that they can't take in any food or throw it up. Your surgeon is the expert, not you. I would suggest you ask him why he would use one size over another. For those of you asking what a bougie is - its the long thin tool thy put down your esophagus and into your stomach to help guide them where to cut. attachment=42773::] -
Meals-to-go ideas 12 days after surgery
Bluesea71 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for April 16th. I plan on taking a total of 12 days off and resuming work on the 28th. Before you think I'm crazy, let me explain. I'm self employed. If I don't work, I don't get paid. I don't get sick or vacation pay. Good news is, I usually only work 3 days a week and typically 6 hours per day. I sit and listen for a living, so it isn't strenuous work. My biggest worry is yawning at clients or developing blood clots from sitting too long! Please help me plan food I can pack to have with me at my office. What are you guys eating 2 weeks out from surgery? My lack of planning is the #1 contributor to me becoming overweight. I would typically eat out. I want to pack things from home and NOT eat fast food. Ideas?
