  1. So.... I had a craving for pad Thai noodles tonight. I bought this premade dish at the grocery store and warmed it up in the microwave. As I went to remove it, the whole dish fell out of the microwave and landed on the floor. I'm thinking the bariatric God has made an intervention and is keeping me on track. Sigh, so is it soup, cottage cheese or tuna fish for dinner tonight?

    Unjury protein shakes

Did you see my post above? Lol. I could have given you my unopened ones! You live close enough!

Ladies: How much loss 1st week?

I lost 11.4 pounds my first week post surgery. 4.9 pounds of that was the day after surgery. That stomach of mine must have been huge! My weight day of surgery was 226. I'm now almost 4 weeks post-op and weigh 206.

    Unjury protein shakes

I ordered one container of the unjury chicken soup and 3 of the unflavored. I'm now 4 weeks post-op and have only used one of the non flavored containers. I added it to jello and crystal light a lot the first few weeks. It still has a flavor. It made the crystal light taste like jello to me! I found the chicken soup to be just plain disgusting. I couldn't get more than a few sips in. My advice would be to not buy too much. I don't know what to do with the two unopened containers I still have. I find the pre made protein shakes to be better tasting and easy to grab on the run. The premiere protein shakes you get at Costco have 30 grams of protein and only 160 calories and taste way better than any powder I've tried. We all have individual tastes though!

    So mad at myself

Every day is a new day to start over. It doesn't make sense to beat yourself up over your mistake. Learn from it and move on. For starters, eliminate all trigger or comfort foods like that from your house! You have just experienced the reality that slider foods like crackers go down with no problem. I have eliminated most carbs from my diet post surgery. A good rule of thumb is if the food starts digesting while in your mouth (with saliva), it's best to avoid it! Does your surgeon or hospital offer a mindful eating class? Food issues don't just disappear post surgery.
  6. I saw this on Facebook today. A reminder that the number on the scale reflected back at us isn't everything. All of these women weigh exactly the same amount!

    Incisions

I have a question for those of you who had a drain. My surgeon told me the only way I would have a drain when I woke up from surgery is if I had a leak or something else went wrong. From the amount of responses here from people who had a drain, it seems other surgeons use one as common practice. Did anyone's surgeon tell them where the liquid is coming from filling the drain? Not judging, just curious!
  8. Thanks for taking the lead on this butterfly! I meant to do it this morning and life got in the way 1. 236 / 5' 7" starting weight 2. 226 day of surgery 3. 209.6 today's weight 4. 140 goal weight 5. Accomplishments - started working out on the treadmill. Walk for 2 minutes, then run for 30 and repeat for 30 minutes. Working out with the Pilates bar for strength training in upper arms and stomach 6.My goal for this week is to stop cheating. I have a gut of steel it seems. It can tolerate eating anything. It's kinda scary not having the negative feedback to stop me from eating certain foods.
  9. I'm tired. Make that really, really tied. Pre- surgery I worked three 10 plus hour days a week so I could have the luxury of having 4 days off to be around for my kids. I am now on week two going back to work. I'm doing it, but there's times where I feel like I could just take a nap right at my desk at work. I'm constantly yawning at clients! It's tough not having coffee in the morning to wake me up. I tried to have a few sips a few mornings and ended up with severe diarrhea at work. Good times. Ok. Thanks for letting me vent. My parents have that "good o'l mid-western work until you're on your death bed" mentality instilled in me. I need to learn to listen to my body and cut me some slack. I did have a body part removed for God's sake! I need to rethink my work schedule. Good news is I'm self employed so I have the luxury to do that. I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on. It's hard to have energy when our daily calories are lower than what we used to eat in one meal pre-surgery. Or likely, one snack!!!!
  10. That's right! Three weeks since surgery for all of us tomorrow! Get ready for a check in! I limited myself to weighing only once a day first thing in the morning. I have been recording the daily total and then adding up my weekly total. I'm thinking (hoping) I had the infamous 3week stall a week early... First week post surgery lost 11.4 pounds (was my stomach that heavy? Most of the weight was the day after surgery!) The second week I only lost 1.6 pounds. Now this week it's 3.4 pounds as of this morning. The one thing I'm noticing is there is no "normal." The weight will come off. I'm trying not to obsess over it. How do everyone's incisions look? Mine are healed and I'm putting mederma on them. They are still pretty red. I don't see me sporting a bikini anytime soon (Gasp at the possibility!)
  11. Hummus. By itself. I would love to have a pita or pita chip to dip it in. Sigh. A girl can dream.
  12. With such a huge calorie deficit, we are tricking our bodies into thinking we are starving. We go into ketosis where our body starts shutting down and our metabolic rate falls. It registers there are limited carbohydrates and fuel to burn and initially stops everything in an effort to save our lives! That's why that 3 week stall is so predictable and happens to everyone. Our body then starts using up our extra fat storage for fuel. When ketosis happens, it throws off the whole input/output theory. You may follow the program to the tee one week and not see weight loss at all as your body is trying to keep you alive! Eventually it starts to shift and this is where patience comes into play. Slow and steady. The weight will come off. Just focus on developing new lifestyle habits that will continue after this honeymoon phase of wls ends 6months to a year out. Eventually we will be able to eat anything again and as I'm already learning it's easy to rack up calories once you introduce normal food in your diet. Using my loseit app on my phone has been key for me.
  13. I haven't puked at all. Doesn't that happen when you eat too much, too quickly? Or is it an aversion to a particular food? What do you think causes it? The worse that's happened is a sharp pain if what I'm eating is too hard. I've probably pushed the envelop a few times there (i.e.; Mediterranean food the other night!)

    Aunt Flow visits OR

I get my period every 29 days like clock work. So according to my calendar, my period should have came and gone several days before surgery day. Well guess what? It was 5 days late and started the morning of surgery! While in the pre-op room, they had me take out my tampon and handed me a towel to put down there. It was no big deal to them. It WAS a pain to deal with post-surgery in the hospital while hooked up to the IV.
  15. Hello fellow night owl . I've tried both which I puréed with a hand wand.... And both hurt. I had mixed both with fat free mayo but it was still pretty thick. The second time I tried it, I added some Water to the mix and it was fine albeit some slight pains.

    Bathroom scale

Scales vary. I weigh different amounts even on different scales in the hospital! I weigh 1 pound more at the hospital than mine at home. I think the key is to pick one for consistency to record your weight. I have a weight watchers one that I got at bed, bath and beyond. It was around $29.99.
  17. Über excited. vacation booked by my sweetie to go back to one of my favorite places on earth - Isla Mujeres. I have until September to get my bod bikini ready! * my fingers are pointing to the stretch of beach Playa Norte where we hang out. The island is tiny 1/2 mile by 4 miles. A short ferry ride away from Cancun.
  18. I'm discovering how easy it is to rack up calories once real foods are introduced! I'm trying to be good about logging all food/exercise into my loseit app on my phone now!
  19. Normally I would agree with you. But with such a huge calorie deficit, we are tricking our bodies into thinking we are starving. We go into ketosis where our body starts shutting down and our metabolic rate falls. It registers there are limited carbohydrates and fuel to burn and initially stops everything in an effort to save our bodies. That's why that 3 week stall is so predictable and happens to everyone. It then starts using up our extra fat storage for fuel. When ketosis happens, it throws off the whole input/output theory. Good luck!
  20. Hi kpay! Your post reminded me that I need to respond to your message! I had a surprise hernia repair too! I am now 2 weeks out and I'm yet to drink 64 oz a day. I had my 2 week check up yesterday, and my surgeon said as long as I was peeing 4 times a day, he said it was fine. It's hard to take in much of anything in the beginning! Just remember this stage is short lived. My recovery has been really easy and I'm crossing my fingers your recovery is similar.
  21. Considering it started THE DAY OF SURGERY, I have a few weeks to go! I'll let you know!
  22. I forgot to mention that I had my two week check up yesterday when I went in with my pain (which turned out to be a UTI). I was moved on to purée food. Whoo hoo. I was craving Mediterranean food tonight and had my DH bring home a plate of lamb/beef Schwarma, hummus, salad and rice. My plan was to purée the meat with a tad of the salad and hummus. I ended up just eating a 1/2 cup of the meat and a few bites of hummus. I am stuffed! Normally I could finish off all of the take out plate and the pita that came with it too. Now lets hope it stays down! So far, so good.
  23. There are so many variables to consider. A big one is how many pounds a person is overweight. A heavier person will loose more weight post surgery in the beginning than someone with less weight to loose. Weight loss slows down and becomes more difficult the closer you get to your goal weight or normal BMi. That's when exercise really becomes an important factor in success and maintenance. It's best to develop healthy exercise habits early on!
  24. I have a bad urinary tract infection. Starting antibiotics tonight. Just thankful it isn't a leak!!!!
  25. Not having a good day here . I have developed this very sharp, intense pain on my left side near my hip bone and it travels down to my groin. It happens every 15-20 seconds and feels like a hot burning wave as it travels down my body. I suspect I have a bad UTI from not drinking enough water. I have an appointment with my surgeon at 2:30. Please pray it isn't something more serious
