  1. 1) Height / weight starting our wls programs: 5' 7", 234 2) Weight day of surgery: 224 3) 10 week post op weight / pounds lost/gained: 194.8, 1.7 pounds lost this week, 39.2 pounds total 4) Goal weight: 160 surgeon's goal, 140 stretch goal 5) Your biggest success this week: 10 weeks out from surgery and I avoided another stall! I've noticed that the scale tends to move on Thursday or Friday each week, so I'm curious if this will continue! My weight loss has been sloooow and steady. As long as the weight is coming off, I'm happy! One positive is saggy skin hasn't been an issue - yet. I had some on my thighs a few weeks ago, and it seems to have snapped back. One positive to the slow weight loss is my skin has a chance to adjust! My weight loss has been 90% diet up to this point, as my exercise has been sporadic. I changed it up this week and have been walking/jogging on the treadmill. It takes me 1 hour to do 3 miles. I love exercise, but my busy work/life schedule made it difficult to fit it in. I have most of the summer off, so focusing on creating new habits that I can continue long term. I read on someone's BP post, "skinny people look good in clothes, fit people look good naked." I have an inner athlete in me as I was a competitive ice skater as a child/young adult. I'm amazed how quickly my legs are toning up. I have come to accept that the scale may stop reporting my progress for awhile if I'm building muscle. 6) Your biggest struggle this week: I've slacked a bit on recording what I consume on my Lose It app. I know long-term, tracking what I eat is vital to maintenance.

    What is your dream job?

I already have my dream job - I'm both self employed and I get paid to listen to people talk!
  3. Psssst. Hey you! Are you listening? Make it a great day!

    4th of July Challenge

Hi Bea - I just checked the chart and noticed you entered 198 for my weight this week. It should say 194!

    Obese Kids

I have two kids who are 12 and 15. Both are of normal weight and extremely fit. My son is outside running around or skate boarding whenever he can. My daughter is a competitive dancer and takes 12 plus hours of dance per week. They both naturally gravitate toward healthy food choices. I count my blessings everyday that they have a different relationship with food and their bodies than I did at their age.
  8. My competitive streak is coming out. I am participating in the BP 4th of July challenge and my goal is to get down to 190 by 4th of July. Combine that with this week's goal to start exercising regularly, I am motivated! I walked an hour on the treadmill yesterday morning ( 2.86 miles for 1 hour), lifted some weights and later in the evening, walked another 30 minutes on the treadmill. I guzzled water all day yesterday to stay hydrated. I woke up this morning 1.7 pounds lighter! Whoot whoot! I'm now at 194.8... But I'll include those pounds in next week's check in!
  9. 1) height / weight starting our wls programs: 236 2) weight day of surgery: 226 3) weight 9 week post op / pounds lost/gained: 196.5 - 1.1 pound loss. I'll take it as long as it's moving in the right direction! The closer I get to my goal weight, the more I'm recognizing how important exercise will play into the equation. I'm 36 pounds away from my 160 realistic goal weight. Time to get moving! It will be much easier now that I'm not working much this summer. 4) goal weight: 190 (mini goal by 7/4), 160 (surgeon's goal) , 140 (stretch goal - although I've never been that small before as an adult) 5) your biggest success this week: not gaining weight despite rebelling A LOT this week. 6) your biggest struggle this week: my freezer broke about a month ago and doesn't stay much cooler than my refrigerator. I had to throw much of its contents away. I know prepping low-cal/mini size meals ahead of time would help me stay on track. I'm finding myself repeating old behavior of not eating my first meal until 1 or 2 in the afternoon and then grabbing something convenient. Today it was a slice of pizza. Now granted I can only eat 1/2 a slice instead of 5 slices pre-surgery, but it isn't the recommended protein! Breaking down and forking out the $3000 for a new refrigerator this weekend.
  10. Happy 9 week sleeviversary everyone! Summer is here and for me, I'm hoping that equals more time to focus on fitness and lifestyle changes I have been too busy to do since surgery due to my work schedule! I've noticed we've had a decline in our weekly checkins the last few weeks. This check in is not to compare stats or judge each other, it's to keep us accountable and stay on target and support each other! If you're struggling, let us be there for you for support! We will all be successful! I just know it! 1) height / weight starting our wls programs: 2) weight day of surgery: 3) weight 9 week post op / pounds lost/gained: 4) goal weight: 5) your biggest success this week: 6) your biggest struggle this week:
  11. I'm advanced too. Started noticing hair loss at 6 weeks. I have consistently consumed between 60-90 grams of protein every day since the day after surgery and take all of my vitamins. It has more to do with restricting calories. Your body thinks its starving and stops all activity it deems not necessary for survival. Biotin doesn't stop the hair loss, but it does help with regrowth. My nails are growing longer/thicker than ever and I have a bunch of new hair growth in my head popping out.
  12. I went to the Starbucks website to get the details. It looks like yours is from my fitness pal. I often notice discrepancies on that site and the loseit app too. Regardless, it still is less than the 1000 calories plus in a regular one. But if our total caloric intact is around 600-800 calories per day, 83-190 calories seems like a lot. My belief is everything in moderation. If I start denying myself things, I start rebelling and craving them more. It sounds like a great treat once in awhile and adjust your calories as needed. I find myself only being able to tolerate only a 1/4 of coffee post surgery. It gave me the worst upset stomach this morning and made me late for work Update: actually, I don't think mine is for the sugar-free Carmel syrup. So yours may be correct. Hard to navigate on my iPhone.
  13. I hate to burst your bubble, but that frappuchino probably had between 500 - 550 calories in it. Assuming you're talking Starbucks, they add a surgery powder to it. You're best to stick to regular iced coffee with non fat milk / sugar free flavoring! Update: Actually, I stand corrected. It's under 200 calories but that's a lot of carbs!
  14. So sorry to hear about the reflux and heart burn. Those are very unpleasant symptoms . I was prescribed protonix post surgery to take daily for 3 months as a precaution. Most days I forget to take it though. I remember reading that reflux/heartburn are the most common side effects post surgery and stomach ulcers are the #1 long-term serious complication. I remember reading reflux can happen when there is too much restriction. I hope you can find a solution that works for you soon and they discover why it's happening. I'm glad you are being proactive and seeking answers.
  15. Have you guys noticed how much clothing sizes have changed in the last few decades? I remember reading a thread on BP months ago which had an article attached about how clothing manufacturers have added 0 and 00 to their size and adjusted the other sizes to make them larger. I have a pair of Calvin Klien Jeans from 1995 I have kept as my inspiration jeans to get back into. They are a size 12 and I wore them when I was 155- 160 pounds. I just looked up the current Calvin Klien sizing chart and the waist on my old jeans is equivalent to a modern day 8! Why do they do this?!? Is this to make us feel better about ourselves? One confused shopper just got more confused! Anyone else have an old article of clothing they can compare?
  16. Don't be dissing your size 14's! That's a huge accomplishment!!!!! As far as resale, there's always EBay if you want to invest the time. I have a few key pieces I may sell, but I don't have much as my fat girl clothes have been quite limited to 5 pairs of the same jeans and a few black shirts (see comment on "mommy outfit" above.). My short-term strategy is to buy one pair of Diva jeans (only $29.99 at Old Navy) and wear them until they look too baggy and buy another pair in a size smaller. I also have some cropped yoga pants I wear. I'm lucky that I don't work much in the summer, so I don't need an expansive work wardrobe. It requires me to do laundry more often, but it's better than spending money on clothes I will wear for only a few weeks. Now that I have time, I need to crawl into the attic and retrieve all of the smaller size clothing I couldn't bear to depart with in 1999. This could be interesting (fashion wise!)
  17. Fat girl clothing is the worst. And on top of it all, suddenly it becomes okay to make things in the cheapest polyester fabric ever. I didn't buy much from Lane Bryant except bras, undies and tank tops. I pretty much gave up on any fashion as i got bigger. My kids teased me about my "mom outfit.". Typically a larger size of the Diva Old Navy jeans I'm wearing above and some variety Of black shirt. Old Navy actually has a plus size department but its only on-line. It's great because you can return things to their store you don't like. I think they go up to 4 or 5x. Plus size pants never fit me right as I'm more of an apple shape (carry my extra weight in the middle.). They tend to add more room in the butt and thigh area. The jeans I am wearing above are sold in the Old Navy store and are the dark wash diva boot cut jeans. I love them because the fabric is thin and kinda stretchy. They sit low on the hips. They go up to a size 20 regular sizes.
  18. Rocking a size 14 Old Navy jeans! First time in 10 years they aren't a "woman's" cut. Goodbye Lane Bryant. I won't miss your flowery flocks at all! Add on: I just walked into the kitchen and my 15 year old daughter told me that my butt looked small. This is coming from a 126 pound skinny girl. I've never been told my butt looked small. Ever!

    Modern clothing sizes. WTF?

Interesting. There's actually a lot on the topic if you google it. It's called "vanity sizing.". Manufacturers do it thinking we will spend more if our reported size is smaller.
  20. Since the topic of clothing sizes has come up, have you guys noticed how much clothing sizes have changed in the last few decades? I remember reading a thread on BP months ago which had an article attached about how clothing manufacturers have added 0 and 00 to their size and adjusted the other sizes to make them larger. 21. I agree! I have no clue what size I want to be as clothing manufacturers have tweeked the sizing so much in the last few decades. I have a size 12 Calvin Kline jeans from 1995 I kept as my inspiration jeans. I measured the waist on them last week and they are the same measurements as what a current size 8 would be! Size 0 and 00 didn't exist when I was at my smallest! I guess this is all in an attempt to make us feel better about ourselves?!??
  22. Well technically you are only 5 sizes away since sizing is only in even numbers! 22, 20, 18, 16, 14. You will get there!

    4th of July Challenge

    6/13 checkin: 197.3
  24. 1) height / weight starting our wls programs, 5' 7", 236 2) weight day of surgery, 226 3) weight 8 week post op / pounds lost/gained: 197.6 (2.2 pounds lost this week, 38.4 overall) 4) goal weight: 190 by 4th of July, 140 end goal 5) your biggest success this week: avoiding another stall. The scale wasn't budging.... Until this morning! 6) your biggest struggle this week: I still don't exercise with any regularity. I hope to change that this week as my work schedule becomes much lighter in the summer and I will have more free time. I know toning will help with all of the jiggly bits.
  25. I haven't had any issues either. I was told sleeve patients take it for 3 months and bypass patients take it the rest of their lives. The #1 long-term complication with sleeve surgery is stomach ulcers. I thought this was to help with that.
