    Dr. Gonzalez Support Thread

Happy to hear from you all at the Gonzales thread. This is my favorite thread. Great to hear that Dr. G has a flouro machine at his clinic now. What is the charge, $100? That's the usual charge. I didn't do so well during the holidays. Decided today is day one of getting back to discipline.............

I'm still working out the eating thing. I find that I must be extra careful with the first few bites of food. And some food I just cannot tolerate like bread. Somtimes I still PB & slime a lot and usually find a reason for it...like shoveling in the first few bites or talking while eating. It only hurts to eat when I am about to PB or have something stuck. Does it hurt to drink liquids or eat something mushy? Do you get a feeling like the food is rolling around and you find yourself swollowing air? If you get any of these I'd think that you either are too tight or swollen. Sure hope it resolves itself. You may want to try warm liquids for a few days. Good Luck.....oh those little blue plastic cups are a life savior. A lot of people don't feel restriction on their first fill. I didn't. I read somewhere that the first fill is like 'priming the pump'.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

V I would change my eating pattern when the pain and vomiting begins....warm liquids for a few days. Send food through a blender and make sure you take only 1/2 a cup slowly. The pain and vomiting could be triggering your stomach to swell so you want to wait until the swelling is down before you eat regular food again........
  4. Yes, I could call my doc. For me to get an unfill, I'd have to fly to Mexico as my surgeon does all my fills. Also I don't have a passport yet...(I know, I'm a terrible procrastinator). And I find that I can control the PB stuff if I am much more careful about those first bites of food. I think I am swollen a bit too.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I was a size 7 about 8 years ago. I was between 120 and 124. At that time I had bought a ton of nice clothes before my divorce was final. The divorce was final on Feb. of 2001 but the settlement and legal stuff dragged on until the last few months. The stress was horrid. And my weight skyrocketed. It hit 199 at one point. Now I'm at 174.5 with lots and lots more to lose. I'd also became hypothyroid during this time. It was the possiblity of seeing 200 that got me off my ass to try and diet. NO PLUS SIZES, YOU BET!:whoo:

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I so look forward to getting into a pair of jeans. A size 16 to start with. I'm not there yet. I have large boxes of clothes in storage. The jeans & pants are size 7 and tops medium. They are really pretty clothes and almost new. Those boxes of clothes are my inspiration to lose weight. I'm only 5 foot tall so I look best in a size 7.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

NicNatNut..good to hear from you again. I didn't feel real restriction until my 2ed fill. Now it looks like it will be sometime before I will need another fill. Indio shoveling food in...boy, do I know that one.! I may have caused my stomach to swell because I just tried some yogurt and have that feeling to stop immediately.... it's been 5 hours since I last ate (it was turkey and I PBed that with the first bite). Guess it is time to go on warm liquids for a while.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Yea, you got it. My BF is skinny, he's almost 6 foot and weighs about 162. He can eat anything and doesn't gain. He loves my cooking, so I cook these really yummy meals that I don't need to eat (nor can I eat much of anymore). He likes his ice cream or sugar snacks in evening. I'm fine with them as long as it is not chocolate. He won't bring home chocolate because of that. Still cooking for someone else has its problems. When i lived alone dieting was much easier. We've been together 10 years so that is not likely to change. But, I also like a glass or two or even three glasses of wine and know that, that is a diet killer. You said you were in a size 12 pants...WOW!!!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

IndioGirl I must be taking too big a bite at first or eating too fast. Twice now I have eaten with company where the idea of PBing freaked me. I ate the tinest bites, tiny amount and VERY slow. One dinner was a ham dinner the other one Turkey. I didn't PB at either of those two. Another thing is that I make dinner for my boyfriend and I then eat with him. So often I will eat when I am not really hungry. Have a feeling the 'not really hungry' thing has a lot to do with my problem.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi all. Nice to have this special place for us. Just tried to eat some turkey for lunch and up it came, after just a few well chewed bites. I can eat stuff like yogurt and soup with never a problem. But so often food like meat and veggies cause me to PB and upchuck. It will start just after a few bites and I chew them up a lot. This is happening once a day, sometimes twice. Any one have this???? PB too much

How is weight loss for people over 50?

IndioGirl I've already eaten all the chocolates. What I do is tell myself stuff like "If I eat them now, I'll be able to get back on my diet tomarrow, so i'd better finish them off". Isn't that self-deception to the max. But I promise, next time chocolates come to this house............I'll flush them...
  14. I would go on just liquids for a week. Warm liquids and warm water should help a lot. If you cannot hold down warm liquids, then you may be too tight or you stomach is so swollen that You'd need an unfill so you don't dehydrate. Hope things clear up for you.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Chocolate is an addiction for me. And I messed up bad on holidays. Put a few pounds back on and have just about got those pounds off now. Haven't been able to flush the chocolate down the garbage disposer yet. I'd say that was a real big step for you. I swear sugar addiction is like alcoholism. Breyers has a carb smart fudge bar that is heavenly. Bars are 100 calories each with 3 grams of net carbs. They are very creamy chocolate tasting and help sooth the choclate craving.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

Peaches Ditto I have a 10cc band and first fill was 6cc and the second was 2.5. I hit the 'sweet spot' on the second fill. Perhaps there is something like a 14cc band Isavada? Do you know what your band size is?

Bennys yea, those were also called white crosses, right? I am paronoid that I will the retching PB's in a public place!!!! Yes one pill a day you are lucky. But, all of my physical problems may be connected to the kidney disease. Oh and I measured that giant pill I have against a calcium pill...and it is twice as thick and longer than the calcium one!!! I'm painting (art) today......back to my work. later

How is weight loss for people over 50?

no I don't remember those pills. I take 16 prescripton pills a day. They can be a real pain (literally) to get down. Yes I must be that tight. but the really big pill is the size of a calcium pill, a giant. But I do have to cut all my pills down unless they are real small. Otherwise I will PB them. As for food. Some goes down with no problem, and I can eat a cup or more of it, but other food cause me to PB, slime & throw up no matter how much I chew it. Like, I made a stir fry the other day and tried to eat it but got real sick. I tried again the next day and go sick again. Last night I had a grilled steak and had no problem at all. It was a chuck steak!! not a nice tender one.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

This is especially for those who will be getting surgery. I found a pill crusher at Walmart yesterday. It really works great. Crushing your pills is a big thing after surgery. I still have to chop my pills into pieces. One pill that I take twice a day is so big that I have to cut it down into 8 pieces. Just crushing it with the pill crusher is so much faster. Also be sure and check with your pharmasist as to whether it is ok to crush which pills. After surgery I was crushing all my pills and found out that it was a definate no no for some of them. As for the 'no no' pills, I'm not sure what to do......does anyone know?????????

How is weight loss for people over 50?

The Fleetwood one you saw is what we recently bought. The setting/bed is in the back, rather than the center as some are. We get a lot better than 16-19 mpg. My DH is obsessed with checking the milage. Sometimes we get as low as 20-21 mpg and other times 25mpg. Perhaps Fleetwood is keeping up it's reputation of lightweight, high GPH???? It is a Sprinter chasis with the Mercedes Diesel engine. It's 23 ft long. At first they seemed real cramped if you are use to a larger RV. But we are getting use to it. Only problem we've had is that our 80 pound dogs' bed is right in front of the bathroom door. DH solved the problem by buiding a platform that sits over the stairway. It gives us enough space to move the dog bed over so we can get into the bathroom at night without waking the dog. I love the RV and the gas milage. We had given up on using our old RV because it costs so much to go anywhere.

jen Try to avoid sugars and keep the carbohydrates low. This helps to curb your cravings. I had a lot of sugar free popcycles, Jello and pudding. Also the high protein shakes are good. Hot broth is great. There are some other soups that you can eat as they are quite liquid. The fear is natural, think we all had it. But, the surgery is a snap.

Hi, I've got great restriction and managed to blow my diet real bad over Xmas. Weighed in today and put on 2 pounds over xmas. Guess I'll wait a bit to renew my ticker. NEWBLEW I found out that it was when I was afraid to get on the scale that I really put on the weight. When I do weigh in i'd be so shocked that I'd start to do something about my weight. Perhaps it was because unconscously I was ready to do something then I got on the scale??????????????

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I think usually you decide when you need a fill. It is when you stop feeling restriction and can eat a lot more than you should. As i understand they sew either stomach or the stomach fat layer over the band. It helps a lot to prevent slippage. Also it may be that different docs do different things....
