Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

My experience has been: The list of foods you cannot eat will increase after the fills. Yes, I cannot eat bread. Crackers work for me as a bread replacement. I have a hard time with eating food that has a lot of roughage. I peal my apples these days. I find the first few bites of food the most important to chew and chew and chew. Good Luck

Thanks. Tomarrow see doc and more test results. Since I got real good restriction, I've notice a new type of stomach rumbling. When I eat wrong thing or take too big a bite my stomachand bottom of esphagus do a sort of rolling. When that happens, I know I'm in trouble. And sure enough sliming and/or PBing come next. Anyone else experience this??????

Congradulations!!!! Isn't the Gonzales team a group of really nice people. I wish I could fine a dental surgeon and a plastic surgery groups in Mexico like them. Perhaps I will if I ask around and research enough. Yea, tummy grumbles and gas were my big ones. I wasn't in any pain after surgery except when I ate and got something stuck. Then my stomach went bannanas on me.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think you may be right. I think I need to be careful with protein and high protein is what helps me lose weight. So I've cut way back on the protein. I see my nephrologist in 2 days. Going to check with him about the protein.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

You are right. I have a 10cc band and required 2 fills to reach the sweet spot. The first fill was 6cc and the second 2.5cc My anatomy would be on the smaller size, I think. But, DrWatson explained that the band is permeable and the body will soak up some of the fill. Everyone is different there. So comparision doesn't work. I think we do it because we are so focused on numbers..........you know those numbers on the scale

Did you notice that we are at the same weight loss and the same amount we need yet to lose. The BIG difference is that I was banded 3 months before you. You are doing GREAT. I love Dr. G's office. It is so tastefully done and I think the nicest Dr.'s office I have ever been in.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

When you restriction is right, you'll know. BIG things happen then. What I do is stop before I feel any signals. If I keep eating I begin to burp and swollow air. I start to slime and hit the sink because I know I am going to BP bad. For me the BP doesn't just go away after one. I throw up, but it is food without stomach acids.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

You need to find someone who has done a lot of fills. My surgeon in MX ( I fly there to get fills) has been doing the surgery and fills for many years. I've had two fills with him and each time, without flouroscope hit the right point (felt like a little prick) and had me sit up while he put the fill in. I'd drink Water while he filled and pulled some out until I was just right. He will be teaching some doctors and nurses this month in the USA. And they will need a lot of fills behind them so it becomes instinctive............that's just my opinion. I relate it to my own learning curve......at first it's difficult and seems like I will never learn, then it becomes second nature.

Thank you so much Dr. Watkins!!! This hair thing shows up in so many threads and none of us know why it happens. We've been worried that we were harming our bodies with lack of protein or vitamin deficiency. Now I know and can pass the word along to others. Is it OK if I quote you and use your name of course??????

I would be afraid of possible band slippage. They say that is what happens when the band slips.

    Atkins for banders

I've been on the strict phase one of Atkins twice and lost a LOT of weight. It was that I needed to keep my carbos so low to get into ketosis (20 or less) that most veggies were to high in carbos. When I got myself into ketosis, I lost weight like crazy. But, sadly enough added it back on and more when I went off the diet. Also Atkins says fatty steaks, eggs, butter, cream, cheese, sausage and bacon were fine for the diet and stuff I LOVE. SouthBeach says different. I have high triglacydes and very high bad cholesteral that I have to watch the bad fats. SouthBeach is just another version with a healthier twist. You got it. We went on the Atkins diet to kill our hunger and now we have the laPBAND to do that for us!!!!!!

    Atkins for banders

I find the SouthBeach diet the solution for weight loss. The Southbeach begins like the Atkins. This is to break the carbo addiction. Unlike the Atkins, it cuts back on the saturated fat and replaces it with good fats (olive oil, canola oil)... After two weeks you begin to add fruit, vegetables and whole grain products back into diet. White carbos and bad fats are eliminated for good. I use a lot of ground beef in my meals. So I bought me a meat grinder and pick up less fatty beef roasts, cut the fat off or out and gind it. I end up with some of the nicest ground beef I've ever seen. When I go to cook it I add back fat with olive oil. The other day I found chuck arm roasts for $1.79 a #, bought 6 of them. I ended up with 98% fat free $3.00+ a # ground beef.

It's great to hear how your surgery went. I was in for my 2nd fill at the time. This was the fill that really taught me about all the stuff I'd been reading about. I've had strong restriction since then. Isn't it great that our surgeon is the one who does the fills. Most doctors have a nurse do it. This way we can ask him all sorts of questions. When do you think you will be getting your first fill?

Hi, remember me? I'm Brenda. I met both you and your sister last time I was at Dr.G's for a fill. Your stomach must have been still swollen. How are you doing? Do you feel restriction? Congradulations. You will be happy when it is over with. It's sort of a journey. Good luck

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I'm 4 months post op and my hair is falling out. I have thick hair so it's not noticeable, but I have to cover it or pin it up to keep hairs from falling into food while I cook.... UGGGGGGGGG I' ve read a lot about this happening at 4 months post op. Wonder if it is lack of Protein in diet???????????????

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I went for a year or two trying to lose weight and had the 'no weight change' too. I saw a few pounds lose with the band surgery and a little after the first fill. Now on my second fill, the weight seems to slide off. I had a big problem with xmas and chocolates. I had to decide that it was up to me to say No to sweets and food that is bad for weight gain. The band keeps your portions down. When you are restricted you can eat a small amount before you are full and the full feeling lasts. Only then did I realize how much I was eating at a meal before the band. The band gets rid of the hunger pains and that makes a BIG difference. I think you will see weight loss.

New Blew Today I am going to begin a journal. Will write about the day and about my feelings and losing weight. I think I need to get in touch with my inner self. Also going to keep a record of what I eat and how much i excersize. Hopefully this will help me make the right food choices and so on.
