NM Sunshine replied to Liz1531's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
OMlAGIRL Kitty is right just say surgery and if he asks say abdomen surgery. Be sure you take enough time off. You need a good week for recovery. Thought of something funny. What if you told your boss you were getting your tubes tied and 6 months down the road, got yourself pragnant:faint: KITTY Good luck tomarrow. It will be easier than you think.... -

LAP-BANDIT If you are starting to get hives, you have to be real careful. I think hives may be a sign of a dangerous allergy, (don't know, but think). Recently I had an allergy to medicine I was taking (ACE inhibitors) and I didn't know it. Then one morning I woke with my lip swollen like a bag of water and the swelling was traveling. I did a search on the net and found out what was causing it. That was a dangerous reaction that could have cost me my life. Google the medicine you are taking and read about potential reactions to the meds. -

Lap-Bandt WOW, so you did have an allergy to the steri-strips. Sorry to hear that ,but , glad you found out what was wrong. So, is all going smooth now? Yesterday I checked with my pharmacist about a med I take. He said that I am not surpose to chew it, crush it or cut the pill up. Gads, I need to check on all my meds, especially before I get my first fill. Since then I have been swolling my pills whole and they don't hurt my pouch. -
Any September bandsters out there???

I think that because BIGBOY is going to work out heavy then he will need a lot of extra protein because he is building muscle. Also, I have heard that a lot of people who have this surgery lose hair. Can't figure it except it must be lack of protein. -

Wasabubble Thanks for the powerful information. I've been overdoing it quite a bit. I certainly don't want to mess up my healing. Going with your advice. The 5 minute thing sounds like it will work. Admire your ability to lose so much in a short time frame. Bakerman Good luck. I think you will find the whole experience much easier than you realize. The worse part is the food after surgery. I was in Hospital Angeles for 2 1/2 days and I had orange gello, clear apple juice and camamile tea for each and every meal. At noon there was a treat with my meal...chicken broth. But you won't have any hunger pains.:car: -

Gracie44 you have it made if you want to go back to Dr G for free fills. The ticket from PHX to SAN is 150 including taxes and stuff. Laura would pick you up at airport. I'm going to drive to PHX (about 300+ miles) to catch a plane for San Diego and arrive back in PHX the same day. -

Wasa BubbleButt I'll bet it feels wonderful to be within 5 lbs of your goal weight. Lots of good information. My problem is that I just want something in my mouth even though I'm not hungry, so I overeat the diet foods. Today I got on the scale and it showed me to be 2 lbs. heavier than yesterday.:angry I found the post-op diet to be HARD. But the pre-op was easy (until recently). At first I had no hunger and little interest in food. Now my interest in food is way up though I don't get real hunger pains. Now I keep overeating and suffer terrific stomach pains afterwards. I guess the first fill will help there? -

herghost I'm the same way. I'm not hungry until I eat something...then I want more and more. I overdo it and the pain kicks in. Would things like soup, pudding, jello and such be considered a liquid? I mean like having these with my dinner or for my dinner would act like a liquid and wash the food prom my pouch into my stomach? -

mistymoon I was banded Sept.11. After surgery and for about a week, I slept 9 -10 hours at night and slept most of the day. The last two days have been good for me. I'm up cleaning house and lifting. It may be that sudden lose of 13 lbs. that is exhausting you. I've only lost 7 or 8 lbs since the pre-op liquid diet. -

Also, my therapist told me that I'd have an easy time with the emotional part because I use to be normal sized (125pds) and my identity is still there. I've carried this fat around for 5 years. I need to name my lap band. Have yet to experience slimming or PBing but sure have experienced the left side pain from eating. -

10 Years ago I went to a consult with a PS for face & brow lift. I was 35 pounds overweight. He said I had to lose to my goal weight (125) and stabalize there for several months before he'd do the surgery. Said my face would again if I didn't. Now I have 65 pounds to lose. Banded Sept. 11 -

Blue-eyed Hope you are feeling better. The tears are most likely about loss and letting go of who you know yourself to be. Also if the extra fat was used for protection (in sexual abuse during childhood) then it can be about letting go of that armor of protection and getting thin 'exposed'. You probably need to talk to a therapist. We get a great book from Dr. G on the emotional side of the surgery. -

Dynamo That sounds great as excersize is part of the commitment to a new lifestyle. I'm also going to get one of those meters that lets me know how many steps I took each day. I think the goal is 10,000 steps. My back was so bad that I couldn't stay on my feet more than 7 minutes. When I started losing weight for the pre-op diet, the backache vanished and has not returned. Staying on my feet for hours at a time is a BIG accomplishment. I look forward to the emotional lift from excersize. -

Maddy My kids are the worst (upset over the surgery). My daughter keeps telling me about a friend who had the lapband and had a major stroke. She has the mind of a 5 yr old. After some questioning it turns out that the friend has a weak heart. Dr. G's cardiologist does an EKG. Just to make sure he also did a treadmill stress test. Even after the surgery my daughter (who is overweight) said that all I had to do was join weight watchers, she said she did and lost 40 pounds. Then admitted that she gained the 40 pounds back. YIKES! -

INDIGO GIRL I'm feeling pretty close to normal. My belly is still bloated. I can't eat regular food yet. But, most of the insicions are healed except for the two major ones. MDuvall123 I,m 62 AND my metabolism is definately slowed down. I've followed the diet and was banded on Sept 11, but, I've only lost 7 pounds. I think that once my abomen feels OK I will start and excersize program. -

CHRISTENE All my fills are free with Dr. Gonzales. Was hoping he'd open a fill center in PHX. I plan on going to Dr. G for my fills. I drive to tuscon and pick up a plane. It stops in PHX then on to San Diego where Laura will pick me up. So I will continue with this plan I guess. -

CRISTENE I had my surgery on Sept. 11. I don't feel ready for excersize beyond walking. I've been working on some walking. It seems like I feel a little better each day. If they set up a fill center in PHX would Dr G do fills there? I'm only about 4 to 4 & 1/2 hours from PHX. WOW that would be so great. -
