How is weight loss for people over 50?
NM Sunshine replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
southerngal Hi. I'm a Brenda too. It is true that your health really statrts to go downhill after 55 if you are seriously overweight. Very smart of you to get the surgery now. Who are you going with? Will you be self-paY? -

css95 that is exactly what I do. I lose one day then gain the next so on. Eventually the losing wins over the gaining. I should have gotten my first fill by now but my appetite is still null. I AM set up for Oct. 25 for first fill. -
HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.

SteveLoves Congradulations. I've had my band in for about 3 weeks now. The surgery wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. The hardest part is managing to get your pills down. I take a lot and that was tough. -

SKINNYDIP I found store bought chicken broth tasted horrible. So, I put ckicken parts in a big pan of water. I sliced up a bunch of celery and onion in pot along with black pepper and salt. Cooked it until the chicken is ready to fall off the bone. When ready, skin off fat and chicken. dip out the celery and onion (they will be so soft, almost like a liquid). Makes great broth. Feed family the leftovers or freeze it. -
tilly you've done great on the weight loss. Wish I could do as well. I go past the 4 ounce limit and get stomach pains later. Never vomited or BP'd but have had lots of gas pains.

SkinnyD you need to lose fat around the liver because it will have a LOT to do with your pain and healing after the surgery. Some livers are so enlarged that they have to go in with big long incisions instead of laposcopicly and some are so enlarged that they cannot do the surgery at all. The liver has to be moved so the surgeons can work on stomach. I was so afraid my liver would be enlarged. I got REALLY lucky. After surgery the doc said that I had the liver of a 15 year old and it was so small that the surgery was over in 25minutes. As a result I didn't feel much pain. -
Any September bandsters out there???
NM Sunshine replied to stacy73's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
MERMAID I am completely with KELLYMOVINON 's advice. Try to remember that you hired the doctor and thus he is a servent to you...that attitude may help balance out your feelings. Also you are losing weight for YOU and not for the doc. I was banded just a few days after you (Sept 11) and according to my surgeons scale I also had gained about 4 pounds. Seemed like I was more obsessed with food on the pre-op diet. :hungry:After surgery my weight loss has been slow. At first it was less than a pound a week. The lst week the pounds are dropping fast. Yesterday I had lost 10 pounds since surgery and today I gained 1 &1/2 pounds back. From what I understand the real weight loss doesn't happen until after your first fill and even more so when you reach what banders call 'the sweet spot'. Again stat rethinking why you had the surgery. It was not for the doctor, it was for you.:whoo: -

Skinnydip Good to be over that psych step. Now do you have to see a nutrisionist and lose some weight before they schedule the surgery? Hope it all goes well and they get you scheduled. -

:whoo:I though it would be cool to start a New Mexico thread. How many of us are out there? I don't know another lap banded person in my state. I live in Silver City. Also where does everyone go for fills in NM? -

aimees27 Hi. GREAT to hear from someone from our wonderful state. I was really nervous too. But them it turned out to be so much easier than I thought. It feels great not to have hunger pains anymore. -
Anyone with Sept 11 as their banding date?

Beach girl Don't know if you are talking to me but will answer anyway. Dayton, Ohio?? My town is in the foothills of the Gila National Forest and there is no such thing as a flat road here. The grade where I am is very high. I take a blood pressure pill that won't allow my pulse to go up. This makes it very difficult to take the uphills. Treadmill ughhh. So I am doing short walks. I was eating too much and have cut it way back. Afraid of messing up my band. Now I seem to be losing weight pretty fast...YESSSSS that's what I want. Is it getting time to look into getting a fill??? Anyone know? -

DYNAMOMINI I couldn't afford a facelift in the states so I'm looking at the overseas, Mexico and south American PS docs and prices. I'm looking for someone who has really good reveiws from people who've had PS with the doc. I have sent in inquiries to some clinics in MX and asked about prices. Lot cheaper than USA. Actually I would love to find a forum like this one for PS. We do have a thread for PS. -
Anyone heard of Dr. Francisco Gonzalez in TJ?

Lap Bandit More than a few times I have made diet pudding and ate the whole thing. That would be 16ounces of nonfat milk and the pudding mix. Then suffer the pain afterwards. I must be nuts cause that is how I got myself in this fat mess in the first place!!!! I'll let you know what I find out. -

green I was planning on a facelift after I'd reached my goal weight. That mini lift sounds interesting. And lips would be great to have. Do the lips last OR DO THEY HAVE TO BE REDONE? -

:help::help::help: EVERYONE AND ANYONE I can see that I have been neglectful with my diet. Yesterday I read that the doc wants us to eat only 4 ounces of food per meal. I have been eating as much as 16 ounces at a time. Often it hurt afterwards. I'm afraid that I stretched my pouch? Or worse what if I made my band slip :faint: Later Yesterday I did the 4 ounces thing. That is such a small amount of food!! How do I know if I damaged my band or stretched my pouch??? -

omlagirl, You won't be able to lift more than 10lbs for a while. The daycare job will be hard the first few weeks. The 'can't resist' is something I'm concerned about with my DBF (dear boyfriend and life partner). After I lose my fat He'll be after me morning, noon, night and worse of all 3am.!!! -

green It's good they put you out for the surgery. I hear that they often just use locals for facelift. Perhaps your surgeon was extra careful to do a great job. It may all be like having a baby, once the baby comes the pain is forgotten. -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

LAP DANCER Yep that is it an dhere is another test. Mix a packet of Sweet'N Low saccharin into 2/3 rds cup of water. Taste the water. You'll taste a mix of bitter and sweet. If sweet is dominant then you are probably and undertaster. If bitter is Dominant you are a supertaster. If it's a tie than you are like the rest of us. -
Congradulations on the fingure nails. What is biotin?

WANT2BMEAGAIN I'm going through something similair. I eat too much (it's soo easy to get down) afterwards the pain stage kicks in. Then I worry about messing up my band. I can really tell that I'm an emotional eater. Also haven't started the excersizes yet. Promised myself that today I will do it all different. (Kentucky fried, ymm..I'd have devored the whole meal) Also I found out where that 'super taster' article is. It's in a book called 'YOU: ON A DIET.' (a wonderful book for anyone who wants to know what is going on in their bodies when it comes to food.) I'll get that page scanned and post it. I have to set up my scanner and will hopfully do that later today. -
