    Mexico ?

Kirajh I just bought a ticket to San Diego today. It was only $98 not counting taxes. It was a really good price. Leaving Dec.4 for a fill.:hungry: BabyGot WOW you are doing great..145!! Below is a quote. I am absolutely amazed that someone would do what this wife did. She wanted him to fail. She may have wanted to kill him. Hopefully the guy smartens up and leaves her. She will sabatage all his weight loss efferts. :thinkMy own doc had a patient who had bypass and less than 24 hours after surgery his wife decided to sneak in Mickey D's for him to eat. Well, he ripped out staples, got a leak, and an infection. The doc took him back to OR and fixed it. Didn't even charge the patient for the additional surgery or hospital days. Five days AFTER the leak his wife requested he do revision surgery on her. Failed bypass to band.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

:faint:I am without restriction and turkey day is coming!!!!!!!!!! I bought me A AIR TICKET to San Diego for Dec. 4 for my 2ed fill. Now I just keep my fingers crossed that doc will be around that day:biggrin1: The ticket was special cheap nonrefundable or exchangable and there was only one left. I sent email to doc after I bought it. Waiting to hear. I want to be restrained for the Xmas/New Years.
  3. Nina, You've had a rough time. I'll bet it is the stress that put the extra weight on. I was thin (a bit anorexic thin) before and after surgery. Years later did some minor yo yo dieting. 8 years ago I filed for divorce from an abusive man, married 37 yrs before divorce became final. It was surely the divorce from hell. It's lasted 8 years and still lingers on. It cost me $100,000.00 and left me so poor that I'm on Medicaid. He wanted to hurt me anyway he could as a way of punishing me for divorce. That was all major stress. I began at 125 pounds and began gaining in 2001. I got up to 198 but am now 179.5 and a long way to go. It was the stress that caused the weight gain. I've been reading about it and this type of stress (kind I have and kind you have) causes weight gain especially in the abdomen.

    Fills?

I have the new AP small band that holds 10 cc's. Had my first fill last month and doc put 4 cc's in. He said that was about average for this band on first fill. Like you, I am still not restricted enough. It's a 3hr drive to airport and plane trip to San Diego then to TJ Mexico for my fills.

Jilly Hi, it's great to have you on thread.
  6. Nina, I'm a good cook too and have a hard time resisting my own meals. I love Pasta tooooo much. You sound like me when it comes to meds. But I have been able to drop back on some of my BP meds with the band (and weight loss). It seems like once I hit my 60's the extra weight has had a heyday with my body. That 189 figure is my bad cholesterol....total cholesterol is 230. Don will do great, I'm sure and I bet it helps his diabetes. I had a hystorectomy at 26. It was done vaginaly. Even if yours was done through abdomen, I don't know how the laposcopic lap band surgery would make a difference? You live in Jackson Miss? My relatives on mothers side live in Forest, Miss. Mother did too but she died some years ago.

Start a food/excersize journal. Make it a rule to fill it in everyday no matter what. Make notes of your moods and how hungry you were before you ate and after you ate.
  8. I changed my handle because FatAttack was negetive. Hi, congadulations on getting back on the forum. I read the post you wrote on your husbands handle. It's incredible that your paternal grandmother was able to stay around so long with all that weight. With all the heart history, do you make sure you keep up with blood tests and all? I have lots of heart problems in my family. I get the yearly blood tests and they have always turned out ideal. Then 6 months ago my triglycides suddenly shot up, now am taking medicine for that. A month ago my blood tests showed my bad cholesteral shot up from ideal to very high (189 LDL) along with that my creatinine levels went way up. The tests were retaken along with others and find out Wed. whats going on. Yes, I think the diabetes should help get the insurance to pay. How long will you have to wait to get the lap band? I self payed, $8,500 covered everything. Went to Mexico for the surgery.
  9. I wrote my Lab Band doc about my not losing and yesterday my surgeon's MD emailed me back asking me about the 1/2 hour a day excersize I am suppose to be doing and was I keeping up my food diary. He asked me to email the diary to him. I haven't been doing either. So, yesterday I did the food diary and the excersize. In my weigh in this morning, I was down 1/2 pound:clap2: I do eat the right foods, just too much of the right foods. I am in process of setting myself up for fill #2 in a few weeks. I'm going to check and see if there is a thread for prople with diabetes.
  10. Ilove I do have a similair problem. I was banded 9/11/07 and had one fill on Oct. 25. I have only lost 10 pounds since banding. My weight seems stuck. I'm not diabetic. but have just went through a bunch of testing to see why my bloodtests are abnormal. One is a 24 hr. urine test. Diabetes could be the problem. Perhaps if you started a new thread that says 'Anyone on insulin pump?' You may could get some replys and find out if that is your problem.
  11. ilove Are you drinking high calorie, sugar drinks like shakes, pop? I'm not on insulin pump.

green Thanks for the . Hardtimes, yep. But I'm preparing to throw it all into the past and get it on. :bounce:BTW that jewelry sounds beautiful. PHYL A man who does the cooking and dishes is definately a keeper. My scale is in this crazy mode where it plays mind games with me every morning. Every day it is up a pound then the next back down a pound. This has been going on for a week. Last night told my man that he is going to have to do the cooking for himself.

Phyl Leaving a man after 43 years would be utterly stressful. If you have him trained some. It would be easier to train him a little more than trading up. I left mine after 37 rocky, stressful, conflict ridden years (and abuse). I had learned how to control the abuse some. We just lived parrallel lives. I finally got a divorce and it's been the 7 years of unbelievable stress. Just now the lawyers are finishing it off the settlement part, (the divorce was in early 2001). My children were hurt very badly over the whole thing. You just don't walk away undamaged from that many years of marriage. Also that damned divorce cost me $100,000+. :omg: yes, that is 6 figures!!!!!!

It's amazing to see how smoothly all those lanes of traffic flowed. It flowed much smoother than our interstates, and much nicer than the red/green stop lights and stop signs. I'm an artist so I love the giant center sculptors. Did you notice the really big one of Abraham Lincoln? And the Native American?

KikiVal A 2 hour ride should be easy. I had to fly from San Diego to Tuscon. Then ride 3 hours to house. Next day was a 5 hour drive to ABQ. and 5 hours back. It was good to get home and rest. Isn't it wild how TJ has those 'round abouts' like Europe. I'd go nuts navigating them but they say once you learn how it is easy and you don't have to stop for stop signs.

IndioGirl & Green I send mine to take photoghraphing vacations often and I stay home. Do love those days alone. But, also miss him and am ready for his company when he comes back. Actually my DH is really my boyfriend (BF). We live together but I don't want to give up my freedom and money for a piece of paper. Because DH/BF worked for the government he doesn't get social security. I've always either worked as a fine artist or as unpaid accountant for my EX's business, my social security is almost nonexistant. When my ex. starts drawing on his social security, I will get half his amount as long as I don't remarry. For me that is $800 a month that I'm not about to give up. There are tiimes when living with my man drives me nuts. He wants to yak all the time and I just want silence. God that drives me nuts. But he is finacially well off and I'm a financial disaster. He buys me whatever I want an doesn't abuse me. I picked out the house we live in and wanted a studio. He let me design one and had it built. It's just give and take. If I were in a good financial condition, I might choose to live alone....yet.....maybe not.

KIKI The pain was nothing. You need to avoid lifting and overdoing it. Other than that things are almost normal. I had to go to Albuquerque the day after I got home, 260. Had to go to court and walked a lot to get there. I did fine. I just found that the bumping of the long ride bothered me some. OMLAGIRL Your story is fascinating reading. Mine was different because Laura picked me up and took me back to airport. She may be having a tough time doing that nowdays, she has 4 or5 children. Also my surgery was done in hospital Angeles rather than at clinic. They have outdoor pharmacies and resturants because it almost never rains there. They get at most 2" a year. That is the same type of ekg machine that they have at my PCP's in USA. How R U feeling now?

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Indiogirl watch me eat the WHOLE bag :biggrin1: Phyl Don't know how you deal with that stuff from your DH. Mine tries some of that at times. I go bananas on him, throw a fit and drink half a bottle of the wine or eat exactly what he underhandly says I sholdn't. My therapists says that I hurt myself. Luckily my guy 'hears' what I tell him. I let him know that he thinks he is helping me by behaving like a parent. I told him that all he accomplishes is triggering me into behaving like a rebellous kid. Then I asked him or gave him permission to do one thing. That is to remind me to chew well and slow. This has made a major difference. I'm sorry to hear how controlling your DH can be to you. I guess if you stand up for yourself he just gets grumpier? I have an ex (married 37 yrs to him) who was super controlling and abusive. Our marriage became a battleground of him controlling and me resisting. :angry

    Mexico ?

The more I read about the lap Band complications, the more confusing it all gets. As for the MX docs, certain names come up an awful lot while others come up rarely. I guess the best way to choose a doc is to read what people say about their doc after surgery and what they say 6 months to years down the road. To top all this off, I have been hearing more and more about patient co-ordinators that pretend to be one of us and say all sorts of good stuff about their doc that may be completely untrue and say real bad stuff about other docs that may also be a total lie. It's all confusing. Makes my head spin.

INDIOGIRL You got it:bandit. But, there are some people out there who think it is their 'calling' to police the rest of us......:angry To ALL I think I had my first experience with the 'barfing' feeling. I was eating some ham fast and without chewing it very well. I could feel the ham going down ( only rarely have I felt something going down), when suddenly I began to feel nauseated. I stopped eating. Since I got my band I haven't had a PB or a throw-up. I really expected something to happen after the first fill. Nothing. My restriction just hasn't been there, except for a few days. 4 days ago (2 weeks after 1st fill) I began feeling a little restriction. It has slowly increased and now the first nausea thing. Looks like my fill may be working after all. Does anyone know why the mystery of 2 weeks after fill, restriction may begin??? Has anyone else had this experience?:help:

INDIGOI'm a 62 yr old brat. All I need is someone acting like a parent and tell me I shouldn't do somthing. Mistymoon I've read that often our honeys have a secret fear that we will get slim and leave them. That is why they will often sabatage us. :faint:

VOON My doctor had wanted me to get a fill sooner than I did. I'd waited about 6 weeks before getting my first fill. I had lost 14 pounds but gained 8 back before that fill. Now I've taken off 4 of the 8 pounds leaving me with a total of only 10 pounds lost since banding. I've only had the one fill and am now :hungry: most of the time. I think I would be better off with more fills. Because of the cost of airfare I need to set my fills up 3 weeks in advance. I probably should find me a doc closer but I love my TJ doc and he gives me a fill whenever I feel like I need one.
