    Starbucks and lapbands!

Starbucks is not that bad, you just have to order right. I went today - 7 days post op - Got a China Tips Green Tea with 2 Splendas & some frothed Skim Milk. Very good!

    I'm another newcomer..

Secret: Don't let anyone talk you out of anything you want to do to better your life. Stick to your guns & have tons of confidence. This is for you so who cares what other people think. You will have the support of your family once the weight comes off & you are healthier with lower cholesterol, etc.... Hang in there!

    A lurker no more...

Chris: I was in the same boat. My husband wanted me to keep trying but after years & years of losing the same & putting it back on I was done with normal dieting. He is..of course...a slim person who does not overeat or eat emotionally. Hard to expect people like that to understand. He did fully support my decision & was a real trooper. He was so nervous the day of surgery I felt bad but once he saw me come out of the OR he was a new person. Stick to your guns & just ask her to support you...that's what I did. We all know we've tried other ways but this is a great decision that works! Good luck to you!

    Banded on 8/16/07!

Hi!! I was banded on the same day in Mexico. I feel great & it seems that yesterday & today I turned a corner. Must be because the anesthesia is finally out of my system. I am still a little sore but hardly any pain at all. The gas is also working its way out thank goodness. I am on soups & baby food. I did have gas pains in the abdomen & only 1 day where I had shoulder pain on the right side. Congrats!:whoo:

    How sore was your abdomen?

Hang in there! I am 6 days post-op & just this morning turned a corner & feel soooo much better. Can get out of bed without holding on to something as well so it gets better if you can just hand in there for about 4 more days....just keep taking those pain meds.....they are great!

Do you know ANYONE banded before 2001?

My Dr. was banded about 10 years ago & he was one of the trial people. He said his band has no fill now & he is doing really well.

    Mexico or States

Mexico for sure. The US Health care system has gotten out of hand with the malpractice suits & all the people that just don't pay their bills so any charges for the rest of us are outrageous! Plus, the surgeons in Mexico are so personable. I have been getting complete e-mail support from mine all the way. They just seem to be more availalbe. When my husband had orthopaedic surgery here we never saw the surgeon let alone have his e-mail or cell...here it is office hours only or emergency line. I have complete confidence in Mexican doctors & facilities & there are tons of complications here everyday too. As far as the Lap Band, Dr. Lopez Corvala was in there when I had surgery. He has WAY more bands under his belt than any of the US doctors & is actually an instructor here in the States as the process is much newer here.

    Texas August banders

I am in Austin & was banded last Thursday. I've been eating a combo of stuff like soups & baby food including apple sauce, etc... It is so hard having to prepare dinner for my son & not be able to chomp down on it. I sort of turned a corner today & feel alot better but still have some nasty gas pains in my abdomen in the afternoons mostly. I hope you are doing well too!

    3 Days Post Op

I know exactly how everyone felt as I am 5 days post op & not really interested in work or doing anything. Have little energy & feel strange when I go out. I am thinking it is the difference in calories as I was not put on a pre-op diet. Up until last night there was very little to no gas pains. Then I got the shoulder pain & tons of gas pain today. Getting better with a heating pad & had to resume my pain meds along with Gas Strips. How long did it take everyone to be rid of the gas pains? I can't believe how much gas we have to get rid of!

    How sore was your abdomen?

Day 1 was not too bad for me as I had painkillers in the IV till I checked out of the clinic. About day 3 I did feel sore like I had done a million situps. Sometimes the incisions burn just a slight bit but none of the pain has been intolerable. Getting out of bed gets easier every day & I've finally turned to my right side as I'd been sleeping on my back since surgery. I have very slight bruising in the incision areas but I haven't taken pain meds since a couple of days ago. It really hasn't helped that I got a cold a couple of days ago. The coughing & sneezing is sooo hard on my abdomen. Sometimes out of the blue I'll feel like there is a heavy object sitting right on my chest & I have to take short breaths but it is nothing that is scary or anything like that. I've been on alot of Chamomille tea to reduce swelling & purchased an elastic band with velcro that wraps around my abdomen that I use for car rides, etc... as it helps to feel more stable & not like everything is moving around inside. Hang in there!
  14. Banded in Matamoros, Mexico on 8/16 by 2 surgeons. Dr. Carlos Lozano & Dr. Lopez Corvala from Tijuana. Had anesthesiologist come in from Monterrey who used to work on Dr. Sanchez' team.

    Here I go...

Congratulations!!! Welcome to the club! I was banded last Thursday & it does get better every day. Keep up the walking & sip on Chamomille Tea. That has gotten me through the gassy stage without too much pain. Let us know how you feel later this week!

    12 Year Old Gets Lapband

I support this girl's decision to have the surgery. Unfortunately we are talking about her eating what she shouldn't.....didn't we? And we are adults?? It isn't always the parent's fault. She may be sneak eating to deal with severe emotional issues. We've all been there & felt what it is like to be an outsider & feel like the biggest person in the group. If my son were that obese I wouldn't want him to go through his young years with those feelings. I just think that before we point the finger at what this little girl & her mom should or shouldn't be doing we should really look at ourselves & realize that we were not in control & we had severe issues even in our adulthood & maturity. Best of luck to everyone who is on this journey!
  18. New Crazy Ater here! I was banded 8/16 and I've really been doing well. No major gas, shoulder or back pains. Almost fully mobile. Drinking Chamomille tea to help reduce the swelling & gas that's still there. This tightness in the chest feeling is strange but am learning to know what foods go down & which do not. Trying to stick to baby food at this point.

    severe gas pains

I am 3 days post op. The gas pains have not been bad. I used to drink tons of Diet Coke daily so maybe I was used to lots of gas. One of the things I highly recommend is warm Chamomille tea. They gave it to me at the Hospital & I've been drinking it ever since. The walking does help but Chamomille tea is marvelous & it helps with the swelling & gas as well.:teeth: Not sure but I think is is naturally anti-inflammitory. Used to give it to my newborn every day with Light Corn Syrup when he was born 9 years ago & we never really had gassy baby syndrome either.

    Here I go...

Good luck tomorrow! - It is a life changing experience but well worth it. Gas is the only problem I've had since being banded on 8/16 but none of the pain has been unbearable. Let us know how you did! Best of luck & congratulations for taking the step!
  21. Will: I was banded on 8/16 & have had at least 1 very intense dream every night. My husband says I even will talk things like "no!" & verbalize some of the emotions I am experiencing in the dreams. Glad to know it isn't just me. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!!:notagree

    Were you banded in Mexico?

Pat: Banded in Matamoros, Mexico on 8/16 by Dr. Carlos Lozano with Dr. Lopez Corvala from Tijuana as Proctor and the most wonderful anesthesiologist from Monterrey who was on Dr. Sanchez team before he was killed. I felt like I had the best experience in the world. I had absolutely no shoulder or back pain. Just a little soar but that is expected. I also did not have any reaction to anesthesia, no vomiting, dizziness or anything that I was fully prepared for.:whoo:
  23. Hi everyone! I was just banded on 8/16 & am doing surprisingly very well. I never exerienced any shoulder or back pain whatsoever & am fully mobile by now. I was banded by Dr. Carlos Lozano in Matamoros, Mexico & had an awesome experience. He is so open with his communication & he is so supportive via e-mail. This board has been so informative for me both pre & post op & I thank everyone who shares their experiences with the rest of us. Your input is really important. Thank You!!:clap2:
