    Surgery after 65

Hi Linda, I've reading up on all the post on what to expect before and after surgery, I see my Dr. Next week and concerned because my primary hasn't signed the o.k. Yet I f I have to find another primary that's going to set me back. Also I'm from Wisconsin and really have an issue with the cold. What have you been up to? I try to read the articles from the weight loss magazine, they give me a lot of insight. I don't know where everyone else is up to but it would be great to hear from them. Stay safe, be happy, live long, Mary
  2. 2BigLamb, They tell me I should have surgery in early summer,May or June. I'm on levothyroxine , I had hyper thyroid before surgery and they took a little too much so now it's post surgical hypothyroidism. I wanted to ask BBdoodle what is Armour Thyroid? Also I am a retired hairdresser with very fine thin hair, iVe been using Nioxin products to encourage healthy hair along with biotin. I haven't used anything else for over 15 yrs. I have more hair at 67 than my grandmother had at 50. My mother died at 47 so I have no way of knowing how her hair loss would have progressed. Thanks gals for all your kind help. Mary
  3. Hi everyone ,I'm a newbe and wondering how long you have to be on the pre-op diet? Mary
  4. Amy,I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience. I would do evrything possible to have the thing removed if I were you. Consult a good Dr. that help you ,maybe even take payments . The rest of you need to chill, everyone makes mistakes, and we all need to try to understand that , have empathy for each other with kind words and our support.

  6. My bariatric Dr. wanted a form stating problems I have ( like hypertension) signed by my primary care Dr. My primary care Dr. Is reluctant to sign that form because of personal issues. Did anyone else run into a problem like this? I'm afraid my surgeon won't do my surgery. Does anyone have a suggest on how to handle this situation?

    Surgery after 65

Welcome IMK, it's common to be nervous, it would be odd if you weren't. From what I learned from my 3 hr. orientation the surgery is fairly safe. They put us through all the bells and whistles to prepare us the best they can to make us ready. We are all in the same boat and I'm not willing to let anyone sink. This is a wonderful support group and everyone is ready to help. The eating problem will gradually get better ,try small soft food a few time a day until you feel better. Keep the faith. Stay safe, be happy, live long.....Mary

    Surgery after 65

Hi Shersun, it sure is a small world. I want my husband to move south but he had to buy a retirement home in Winter,Wi. About a 30 min. drive southeast of Hayward,Wi. But I made him agree that when he retires we spend winters traveling the warmer states. You do sound very active , how do you like curves? I have consider joining but don't want to go with the young ,skinny set that look at you like your from another planet. We have an elliptical machine at home that I try using every day but I only made it to 2 min.LOL I won't give up. It sounds like you are all set for your surgery and that you have enough confidence to share with all of us. I considered the sleeve but my Dr. Said I'd be better off with the bypass. He thought the faster weight loss would benefit me more, everyone has a different view point. Keep in touch stay safe, be happy, live long.....Mary

Hi Pat, I have fibro also, and arthritis ,mostly in neck, shoulder and back. I 'm with you in feeling younger than my age. 60 is the new 40 and I believe that's true . Have you had any of your testing yet? I have some scheduled for next week, checkup and authorization from my family Dr.and a psych exam . I'm looking forward to getting all this done. Today is Sunday so I suppose everyone will be watching football. What part of the country is everyone from, I live in Wi. It would be interesting to know where everyone is from and how much support they have in their area. Their is a good support here, meetings, Facebook and group support but not many people our age group. Keep in touch all. Stay safe, be happy, live long....Mary

    Surgery after 65

Hi All, Happy Saturday, I'm wondering where you get all your energy Sally? I feel as tired in the a.m. as I did when I went to bed. I'm hoping with surgery comes more energy. Are any of you feeling apprehensive? Sometimes the surgery is all I can think about. Did anyone buy their protein drinks yet? If so have you sampled any. Does anyone know why you can't have coffee after? Is anyone doing this on their own without telling everyone in your family? I have the support of my husband and one daughter but haven't told the rest of the family because they wouldn't understand. I don't know how I'm going to address their questions later but I feel this is a very personal choice and I shouldn't have to explain myself to them. Thanks for listening. Stay safe, have fun, live long.......Mary

Welcome P Quinn, Come join the rocking chair set LOL. All of us have the same motives in joining together for support. Do you have a time for your surgery? How are you doing? I'm also learning a lot just by reading all the posts. It sure helps to get advice by others that have been through it. I know Chapstick, bathrobe ,socks and someone said flavoring for the water in the hospital and a big thing is where and what kind of flavored protein to buy. It's a great website and now we have a nice group started. hurray! Keep in touch, stay safe, be happy, live long. Mary

    Preop Diet

Hi Tiffany, Lifescript.com has some great lite recipes and it also helps to keep a food journal. I will be doing surgery in late May .I don't have to lose weight either ,but I am doing a journal for my Doc., it keeps me from going overboard with food. My biggest problem is sweets, I'm hoping the surgery will help with this. I hope this helps you! Stay safe, be happy, live long. Mary
