Well, there is not much to DO when something gets "STUCK" except wait it out. MY experiences have been a little different,, sometimes it passes through and sometimes it comes back up. Your body lets you know if it won't pass,, you start to get slime coming up in your mouth and you make a run for the toilet. For me, when food is stuck it's VERY PAINFUL and it makes me eat SLOWER next time. TINY TINY TINY bites... good luck to you!!

I definitely understand how EASY it is to be Really REALLY hard on ourselves. We sort of have this image and vision of accomplishments in a certain, distinct time frame. I think it's time to SMASH IT! and be super proud of what you have done! HOnestly, I would KILLLL to have lost that much in 5 months. I am 8 months post-op and only have lost 54 lbs. My goal is 90 lbs. I don't know what your goals are, but you should really take a step back and appreciated everything you have done so far! AWESOME !!! 278/224/180

Hope you are feeling better soon.. I absolutely HATE sliming and PB'ing and hardcore vomiting too. It's the WORST feeling in the world. Especially when something gets stuck and all you have is pain. I try so hard to be good and once in awhile i forget to chew extra good or take small bites. ANYWAY,, Just wanted to let you know that sometimes you can remain swolen for up to a week,, take it real slow and stick with liquids and then soft mushies for a few days after that. You should really baby your stomach until it's no longer swolen and aggrivated. GOOD LUCK! it will get better and you will find your sweet spot one day. 278/225/180

Was Banded on 8-8-08 .. Is it safe to have an adult beverage?
daisybug replied to Missprdiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pretty sure my Surgeon's instructions said no alcohol for two weeks, but everyone is different. I had a glass of red wine 3 weeks post-op but that was IT because I was also told to stay away from liquid calories if you really want to drop weight. If you are concerned more about being healed enough, I would just call my Doctor's office and ask . hope this helps you, good luck!!!! 278/226/180 -
Its totally normal ! don't panic. The time between your surgery and first couple of fills are really REALLY hard. Don't get discouraged because I also lost weight right away after surgery (from the liquid phase) Then i didn't drop a single lb for 3-4 weeks until i got a fill. ALSO, i didn't lose much right away after that because I didn't have any restriction until my FOURTH FILL ! be prepared,, hang in there ! ITs a SLOW, but rewarding journey. 278/226/180

That shoulder pain SUCKS! I remember it all too clearly because mine didn't happen right away either. From what I remember the Doctor telling me, they pump you up with all that gas during surgery so they can maneuver around inside the stomach. After surgery, the gas will slowly disperse and sometimes it creeps up into the shoulder causing EXCRUCIATING PAIN! But, it can take DAYS and sometimes WEEKS to go away (or, even just move around the body). Whats happening to you is totally normal. In fact, don't be surprised if you still have it up to 6 weeks. :wink2: GL ! 278/226/180

New Member - Banded 7 Months Ago
daisybug replied to flxbl1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI LISA ! Congrats on your accomplishments.. It's quite a journey for us. I am STILL getting used to & accepting the fact that it will be slower weight loss for us compared to bypass patients. They can tell me until they are blue in the face, but I still get disappointed when the scale moves so slow. I am 8 months out and have lost 50 lbs. WHICH IS GREAT! so why do I expect more? i dunno.. lol. I am still learning about myself. I have had a total of 4 fills 4.5 cc in a 10 cc band. I am in need of another fill but I have really enjoyed NOT p.b.'ing . Super tight is not for me. Vomiting sucks! good luck! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Christina 278/228/180 -
Hi Jamie, First, I want to tell you that you are NOT alone in this battle. I have felt frustrated MANY times. I was banded in Dec 07 and have only lost 46 lbs, (40 of that lost in the first 3 months). I pretty much have only dropped 6 lbs in the past 5 months. THATS NOT GOOD ! So i have been trying to get back on the food journal wagon and weighing my food. I also have been really honest with myself about food choices... For instance, the "no liquid calorie" rule, i break that constantly and I decided to go back to basics and follow everything my doctor instructed me with. Of course I don't know what exactly is going on with you, but i want you to HANG IN THERE !! GOOD LUCK !!

Hi Lela, It's VERY common to gain weight after surgery and PRIOR to your first fill. Please don't beat yourself up! Vacation is so tough. Don't let anyone else's comments about your weight change your determination and self worth. YOU CAN DO THIS ! GOOD LUCK  278/228/180

19 days post op and I need a "crunch"

19 days post op and I need a "crunch"
daisybug replied to innwtitdtity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it's really hard when we are told not to eat something,, but I got through mushy stage just telling myself "its temporary" pretty soon I will be eating solids again. I was actually thrilled to eat mushy foods,, it was the liquids that drove me nuts. Have you tried mashed potato ? that's pretty satisfying. Also tunafish mixed with lowfat mayo is good too. Hope this helps you.. good luck! 278/228/180 -
What does it feel like to be "stuck"?
daisybug replied to amonroy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the most WRETCH-ed FEELING EVER! It's something I don't wish on my enemies. For me, It happened with chicken breast,, I ate it to quickly and didn't chew it up enough. It was like pressure in my upper stomach and all of the sudden my mouth started to Water (sliming) and then vomit. i was relieved after getting it out. One time, i walked around my house in pain for 15 minutes and all of the sudden, it went DOWN> instant relief... I think moving around helped. I know you will read this a zillion times,, but take heed !! CHEW THE HECK out of everything and eat slow.... you will find out what foods don't agree with you.. best of luck 278/229/180 -
Alcohol (Wine) Post Op???
daisybug replied to ImaGoofball's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have one or two glasses of red wine a week. Yes, wine turns to sugar when you digest it but if you keep track of the calories, it won't sabotage our band. I personally don't have a glass a day because I was taught NO liquid CALORIES,, if possible. but this is LIFE and you cannot deny yourself a treat now and then. 278/230/180 -
Am I on the right track
daisybug replied to Popsicle Toes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Bree :crying: I didn't feel any restriction until my 4th fill. I only lost 4 or 5 lbs between my first fill and my fourth fill. You should call your doctor and schedule your next fill as soon as they will allow it. Sometimes it takes a couple fills !! GOOD LUCK!! 278/230/180 -
Scale Addicts . . . ???? for You
daisybug replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am definitely a SCALE-ADDICT! I hate my scale, i love my scale, i hate my scale. two weeks ago, i broke my scale because I hadn't lost anything and I was so angry I stomped on it and thus, broke it. I had no control over what I was doing,, it just happened before I could rationalize or anything! So then i though, -OK cool, now I don't have to be obsessed with a scale because it's broken. Later that day, i ran to Target and bought another one. Not sure how to get over this. also, I didn't realize that we weigh less after working out. wooohoo, i will be doing that now. SELF CONFESSED Scale addict.. 278/229/180 -
Very little restriction???
daisybug replied to bombaman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's very normal to not have any restriction before your first fill. In fact, I didn't get any restriction until my 4TH FILL !! Of course, everyone is different. Some call it "bandster hell" because you will feel exactly like before and be able to eat whatever.. Some gain weight!! JUST HANG IN THERE and try your hardest not to over-eat before you get good restriction going. best of luck to you!! 278/229/180 -
Ahhh.. Not sure what to do..Help :)
daisybug replied to Missprdiva's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just from my own experience,, I travelled 4 weeks post-op and was perfectly fine ! I was actually eating normally (I hadn't had my first fill yet) and felt like I did pre-surgery. It is possible you could have a complication, so take your time with your decision. GOOD LUCK!!! 278/229/180 -
2wks post op...how long till I can eat normal food?
daisybug replied to juliatabor's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds like you may not be ready for solids just yet. I would give it another few days before attempting to eat something solid. Your upper stomach is still probably swollen and irritated from the surgery. I was able to eat salads and raw veggies about 3 weeks after surgery. I still have issues with chicken breast,, i can eat it but i have to constantly remind myself to cut it in small pieces and chew CHEW CHEW ! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!! 278/229/180 -
Frosted mini-wheats are yummmmy ! I have no problem with them either, as long as I take small bites and chew, chew chew! good luck ! 278/229/180

YEP YEP,, i agree with the above post. Call your Doctor and head to the nearest quick care or ER to get evaluated for dehydration. That is serious stuff.

Awesome question. I can't wait to hear some responses.. I often wonder about long term with my band. I hope to keep it for a minimum of 15 years but think eventually I may have it removed,, or maybe NOT! I truly miss carbonation,,, but not the weight that's gone...!!! 278/229/180

PS: Not everyone experiences this... Some are able to eat white, refined foods. Others,, not. it's up to you to find out.
