    Stomach Rumbling

I am 7 months since surgery and I still get occasional rumbling. My stomach did it a lot at first, probably the first three months. It really is embarassing! But, people understood!
  2. Anybody out there ever have a problem with their band after flying on an airplane? I just came back from a trip with a 4 hour flight each way. I started having a problem on my trip after the first flight. I get almost everything caught in the band. The only relief is to lay down and the problem goes away quickly. (I can actually feel and hear the food move.) I figured it was because being out of my normal routine and comfort zone, I was really hungry and didn't pay attention to taking small bites and chewing fully. But, I'm starting to wonder.
  3. I actually have no idea if that was what the problem was, but for me I plan to be very careful next time. You will probably be on liquids after your surgery so you shouldn't have a problem. I would certainly ask your doctor about it. Just be very careful.
  4. Thank you all for your replies. I am now a week home from my flight and the problem has gone away. So, for me, I'm going to be cautious next time I fly.
  5. I was banded 12/3 and told to cut all my diabetes medications in half. I was taking 5 Metformin, 2 4mg Amaral, and 8 units of Insulin per day. A month later, my doctor took me off the Insulin. I am now having a problem with my blood sugar dropping way too low, so I am going to try dropping the Amaryl and see how it goes. So, the answer is yes! It works to help with diabetes.

    liquids while eating

I've found it so darned hard to not drink liquid with a meal. In Weight Watchers years ago, they taught us to take a bite then sip water alternately. The things they've learned since then! My problem is I have a very bad habit of eating my food very hot and needing water to cool my mouth off. My husband thinks I will finally learn to stop doing that. He thought burning my tongue a zillion times would teach me too! I think the real learning curve will be the lapband. So far, it's working!
  7. Does anybody have a lot of stomach noise since banding? I can understand some of the noise from my band opening some burping sometimes, but my stomach and intestines make a lot of noise. It's usually after meals, maybe an hour or so.
  8. My BMI was 36 but I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestoral and other issues related to weight. So, my reasons for the surgery weren't just about looking better. A few people were surprised that I was doing this because they didn't think I needed it. But, those people didn't know about my other medical problems. Everyone has been totally supportive. Diabetes runs in my family and it scared me to have it continue out of control. It's now in control and my doctor is very pleased. I hope you get the support you need from your husband and from this forum. Go ahead and do it. Do it for you.

    Lapband & Hot Tubs

My doctor told me no hot tub, but I assumed it was because of the incisions. Now that they are healed, I am using it again. It's a question I keep forgetting to ask my doctor. Please post your doctor's answer when you ask.
  10. I had my surgery 12/3 and I'm still having a hard time sleeping. I don't do well sleeping on my back so I fitfully switch back and forth from side to side. But I have quite a bit of pain when I lay on my side in the area where the band is. Just wondering if others have pain laying on their side.

    Countdown to Onederland!

I'm bouncing back and forth from Onederland! It's like a tease. I've gone down to 198 and back up to 204 then back again. But still it was sure nice to see that on the scale, something I haven't seen in 30 years. Good luck to all of you.

one month out, first fill, can still eat!

I'm finding the same thing. I was banded 12/3 and started eating regular food last weekend although I'm still kinda eating mushie type foods. But, I have certainly pushed it, even eating potato chips and crackers (old habits die hard) and certainly eating way too much! My first fill isn't until 1/16 so I'm working now to cut back what I'm eating so I don't have a shock then. I think what you're experiencing is normal, sure seems to be for me.
  13. I was banded on 12/3 and I've found the same thing and had the same worry. I'm eating more than the 1/2 cup and worried also that I've stretched my pouch. I didn't really see a definitive answer to your question. I only hope the first fill will change things. Good luck to you.

    First 3 days post-op

I was banded on Monday 12/3 also and also had hiatal hernia repair. I'm still taking the Vicodin but mainly because my back hurts so much from sleeping on my back. My back hurt intensely when I woke up in recovery. Otherwise, I still have pain in my diaphram and it spreads to my shoulders. My doctor says it's normal, just from swelling. It sounds to me like you have the same thing so I'm wondering if the swelling is from the hiatal hernia repair. Good luck to you.

    Just banded on Friday!

Congratulations! I'm scheduled tomorrow morning. I'm starting to be terrified but not from the decision to actually have this done...just from surgery aftermath. But, I know it will be temporary. Good luck to you.
  16. My surgery is one week from today (19th). I haven't done as well as I wanted on the pre-op diet but I have lost 10 or 11. He wanted me to lose 15. It's just so hard to lose, always has been for me. I feel much better than the scales tell me. I am at the mercy of the doctor in my opinion. I've done my best. Good luck to you.
  17. I have to lose 15 pounds by next Wed. My surgery is scheduled for Nov 19. So far, I've lost about 9 and I think I will do a practice run of liquid diet for a few days. He left it up to me how to lose the weight (to shrink the liver) so I've been doing low carb/sorta Atkins diet. But I'm getting worried that I won't reach that goal and he'll cancel the surgery. But, it's nice to feel better in my clothes already!

    Lap Band and Gall Stones

My gallbladder is the reason this all started. I went to the surgeon to schedule gallbladder removal and he suggested I would qualify for the lapband. So, I'm now scheduled for both on Nov 19. If all goes well and no fluid from the gallbladder gets out, he will go ahead and do the lapband. It's been a long wait with all the lapband requirements and testing. I can't wait to get the GB out. Wish me luck.
  19. I'm wondering the same thing. I'm scheduled for Nov 19 and I have till the 14th to lose 9 more. I was doing good but my success is trailing off. Good luck to you. Keep trying. I hope you make it and if you don't lose the whole 15 I hope they still do the surgery.
  20. I started this process last July after having a gallbladder attack. My surgeon suggested the lapband and sent me off to see a dietician and psychiatrist. A month later he asks if I've seen the cardiologist (he never told me about that). So, another 6 weeks go by and I've done that. Then I find out I have to also see a pulmonologist and lose 15 pounds! I saw the pulmonologist today assuming it was a lung check and I find out I have to spend the night there tomorrow night to make sure I don't have sleep apnea. Am I ever going to get there? Am I going to be able to lose that 15 pounds in the next 5 weeks? I am trying but frustrated with all this although I do understand the reasons for all of it. I need some encouragement. Have others had to do all this?
  21. Just wondering also if anybody knows if these are insurance requirements or doctor requirements?
  22. Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I have at this point made the decision to have the surgery done and pending cardiology check and insurance approval. I had never considered I would qualify but my surgeon suggested it in making plans to take my gallbladder out. I considered it a gift when he said I do qualify. I also have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and arthritis. My only worry is that my gallbladder will hold out AND there won't be any fluid from the gallbladder when it's removed or they won't be able to put the lapband in. I'm in total confusion as to what to eat right now - proper foods for diabetes, proper foods for the gallbladder, proper foods for weight loss and to get me ready and practiced eating for after surgery. But, I'm hanging in there. I like this forum so far and looking forward to reading more things.
