I JUST WANT TO EAT IM DEPRESSED AND STALLED

It's wierd how different doctors recommendations are, mine said to not eat crackers until 9 weeks out, and prefers his patients to not eat them at all. -
PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!
jlmckee replied to drobinson1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried unsweetened almond milk? It's lactose free and it tastes great in protein drinks. I liked it before surgery, unfortunately it doesn't taste good to me anymore either.I bought some of the Premier Protein shakes a few members have said they like...not for me, too think and creamy, makes me gag.At least I get to start soft foods on Tuesday, looking forward to bites of chicken instead of puréed. -
Hi. Surgery 1/27/14. Today I have sharp pains on my left side. On the upper side and back under my ribs. Hurts if I use my left arm, bend. It's stabbing. It does reduce if I stay still. I haven't had gas pains before. Can someone who has had gas pains describe it?

How Many Carbs? I'm almost 8 weeks post op
jlmckee replied to ladonnarn02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had googled about gastric bypass and found the following website: uchospitals.edu under guidelines for Roux-en-Y, Sleeve, etc It is from 2011, but I asked my nutritionist before my surgery if it still applies. She stated it is still good reference. About carbs portion says no more than 15-30 carbs per serving. And to avoid products with sugar as the first three ingredients. -
PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!

Terry, me too -
Hi, I've emailed my surgeon, just wondering if anyone has experience. Surgery was 1/27/14. Laparoscopic. No drains. Incisions are all scabbed over. My son and I are going out of town and the hotel has an indoor heated pool. I know I can't swim, surgeon said to wait 1 month before aerobic. But I'm wondering if I can go in and walk or just lounge. ???

When can I go in the pool?
jlmckee replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, your experiences are the same as PA instructed. At least four weeks and only if incisions are healed to take a bath, go in the pool. 8 -10 weeks to start swimming, they'll evaluate at my second follow up. Thanks -

Hi guys, thanks for letting me know your experiences. My surgeons PA got back to me, at least four weeks if all incision sites are healed. I'll relax in a lounge chair instead -

I'd think the scab rule would be the same. I did email my surgeons PA, waiting for the reply, but you are probably right. -

I haven't tried PB2, but you can find in on amazon, it's a powdered low fat peanut butter. It gets good reviews. -

I get syntax nectar proteins from amazon. -
I have Kaiser. I'm able to email or leave a message for my doctors, are you able to do that? I usually remember questions after I leave my appt. I email. Usually my surgeon's PA gets back with me, but once the surgeon did himself. At my 10 day I'd lost 15 lbs. now I'm 20 days and have lost 2 more. I look at it as 17 lbs in 20 days, none of my diets were this successful. I lost 96 lbs pre-op and was losing an avg of 3 lbs weekly (some 0, some 6). Depends on that time of the month for me too. Per my surgeon, I'll be very swollen internally for weeks and need to focus on healing, liquids (64 ounces daily) and protein (60 - 80 grams daily) for at least the first 6 weeks. So that's what I'm doing. I've already had a fainting episode and "over-did" activity, trying to walk to much, too many errands, and I've become over tired and pain increased. I'm reminding myself to take it easy, day by day and weigh once a week and not really count it but every 2. (In one day my weight can fluctuate 3-4 lbs).

Surgery 1/27/14. My post opwas 10 days out. Surgeon looked at incisions, asked how I was, told me I could switch a couple meds from liquid to capsule, prescribed those and blod work. He did make sure that I have an appt with his PA on 3/4/14.

PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!
jlmckee replied to drobinson1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, anything milk, chocolate vanilla etc makes me gag or nauseous for hours. I like the 15 calorie minute maid light mango and passion fruit drink: 8 ounces with 2 scoops nectar unflavored Protein, mixed and frozen fir about 10 - 15 minutes until icee consistency. I can stomach this for Breakfast. If I'm feeling okay, I purée a Dole's peach in juice cup, strain it and add it too. If i do I add a third scoop of protein. I also like 4 ounces Water with orange Kool-aid liquid and a scoop of the unflavored protein. I also freeze until icee consistency. I sip it, let the heat of my mouth warm it and "Tada" Some like Isopure bottles. I liked them pre-op but after it's gross, my son drinks them after the gym. -
What ya eating tonight?
jlmckee replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Puréed Stoffer's baked chicken breast with mashed potatoes. Yum. I gave my left overs to my dog, she was happy too. My son thinks I'm nuts, but I was sick of Talapia. My bday was yesterday and I didn't feel well, we are going to make up for it on Monday with snow crab legs -

When does the pain stop?
jlmckee replied to Sadie15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep I'm 20 days post op. I still have that pain. Surgeon and PA say it's normal, to keep myself comfortable with pain meds. My pain meds make me nauseous. I find that the pain is worse 1-2 hours before I use the restroom (#2). My surgeon suggested colase twice a day. I also wasn't getting all 64 ounces of liquid in each day. I'm increasing water- I like warm lemon water each morning and evening. It has improved a little with the increased fluids and colase. I'm hoping it will continue to get better. -
K 11 days post op I was doing okay up till Monday. I was increasing fluids and protein, trying to reach target. My PA called Monday, answered questions all A-OK. Then my faint and fall Monday afternoon. I've had the pain about 2 inches left of my belly button (not incision). I hadn't gone #2 since Monday. I've read on here, semi common, milk of magnesia, etc. but when I try to go, the same pain gets worse. Anyone else experience this? To top it off, I think I have a hemorrhoid (haven't had one since I had my son 14 years ago). I have my follow up with my surgeon tomorrow, I think I can wait till tomorrow to ask him, doesn't sound like an emergency, right?

Sorry to be gross, bathroom issues
jlmckee replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Called the surgical nurse advice line. Since the pain is the same with sneezing, coughing, trying to have a BM, on the left side, she says it's normal. No need for ER, just to let him know tomorrow. Isn't weird, pain so bad can't stand it, until she says normal, then not so bad. -
Okay My surgery was 1/27 am, released from the hospital 1/28 pm. I am to switch from clear to full Liquid diet today. On my list of allowable foods is fat free Greek yogurt. Do you know if it needs to be thinned to a liquid? If so what do I thin it with? Almond milk? I've tried thinned/strained cream of chicken soup with chicken soup flavor protein (unjury). It's gross. I've been trying to drink my pre surgery protein: almond milk with chocolate truffle protein (nectar) it too is gross. Unflavored protein mixed with juice; gross. I'm at my wits end. Between anti nausea meds and pain meds, I'm full. Any tips?

Hi I'm one week post op today. I'm alone during the day when my son is at school. I came home last Tuesday evening. My mom or sister stop by during the day to check on me and things have been fine. I've been struggling getting the right amount of protein in, buts that's about all. I'd been doing good today, felt a little grungy and decided to take a shower. I was doing fine, then started feeling weird. I "came to" on the bottom of the tub. First felt like waking up, then all of sudden sound and sight came back. I've passed out in the past due to migraines. Never like this. I knew something was wrong and sight went wonky, then wham, I'm on the floor of the tub with the shower nozzle, towel (soaked) in my hand. I'm glad I'd lost over 90 lbs prior to surgery, because I'd never have been able to get up on my own. I got up, got a new towel and laid down. I'm still a little shaky. I called my mom, she says the heat from the shower and the left over anesthesia in my system... jeez so I will be waiting to take my next shower until my mom has time to stop by. Then again, I don't know what she could have done had she been here.

Okay So since the shower incident ... I am in pain again, as bad as when I came home last Tuesday. I'd been off my pain meds since Friday. But I just had to take some. When I passed out, I hit my right elbow and right side of my abdomen on the tub spout and they are bruised. Sore, but not extreme. The pain on the left of my belly button (not an incision site) is bad. I know it's a pain related to the surgery, it's just that it had gotten so much better, I twisted in bed and actually screamed out loud.

Thank you for the replys. To be honest, some scare me. Which is the point, right? I will be more careful and definitely wait to shower so someone will be home with me. This is my first (and hopefully last) surgery. I didn't know it was an issue to be aware of.
