    Questions

How much are you able to drink? I am 5 days post op and almost every sip I take hurts. If I take 2 sips in a row, forget it.....and then the pain sits there for a good ten minutes....I did somehow get about 40 ounces in yesterday but man this sucks.

I am back.... 3.5 weeks post op

Heh buck, what's up? Good to hear everything went well. Any regrets? Did you find it tough to swallow and get your fluid in immediately after surgery?

    Just 3 more sleeps

Chapstick for sure!!!! I have been in hospital several times over last couple of years and the chapped lips are so bad, you will think your face Is going to crack. Just start early and often with a good Chapstick or blistex. Also flip flops to wear when you are walking( and you will walk....it really helps with the pain) you can likely put on a pair of baggy sweat pants. I put mine on as soon as I got out if surgery.....
  4. Maybe do a day or 2 of some low carb Protein shakes and bars to transition to the clears? In addition to the homeade and doctored broths, I also used natural apple juice diluted about 30percent with Water. The good news is that once you are on the other side, you likely won't have major hunger ever again like preop.i was sleeved on Monday and just getting water down is a chore right now. This kind of full is something that really can't be described. It has to be felt.:)
  5. Are you also doing a full liquid diet prior to the 2 day clear diet? I'd think it would be very difficult to go from full eating to 48 hours of just clears. And regarding the clears, I used lots of homeade broths to get me through. Different flavors of broth bad I doctored them with herbs an spices.

    Feb 28 came so fast

Cub, I just got home yesterday from my surgery Monday. It was really a blur from Sunday night until now. Good luck.

    Golf

How about those 100 calorie almond packs? Also, do you find that the lack of carbs causes any weakness or endurance issues towards the end of rounds? You'll be fine at 10 weeks. One bit of advice -- find something healthy to eat that goes down easy for the course -- Quest bars or bananas work well for me. You're not going to be able to swing by the snack shop and wolf down a hot dog at the turn or cram down a sandwich between holes!

    Golf

I am getting sleeved tomorrow. I hope the recovery goes well.......I booked a golf trip for 10 weeks out. I am a single digit player and I am hoping the weight loss also drops a few strokes from my handicap. You guys think 10 weeks is safe?

    Las Vegas surgeon recommendations

I have had several procedures performed in Las Vegas. I had a cashectomy once......a moneyectomy a few times ....and also a collegefundectomy....... Still love the city though......
  11. Oh.....I just saw that you are from NY...I have to amend my answer..... Either hiatal hernia surgery OR Dual middle fingers with squared up knuckles perpendicular to the index finger and the thumb extended horizontally so that the thumb and index fingers form a right angle. ( who is trying this as they read it?.....Lol) and also a " Go f*uck yourself" for an exclamation point! I'm from CT and do a lot of work in NY so I feel qualified to offer this suggestion.
  12. Hiatal hernia surgery. So will a middle finger and telling them to mind their business:)
  13. Add me To the tally for having to skip (possibly important) posts because of the annoying cursive font.

    I miss food!

Hang in there. I am getting sleeved the day before you (2/24) so I am also in the preop diet blues right now as well. I have to admit , this far in to the preop, I just want to hold out and get to the other side. Then I figure that it gets progressively better as I add food back. This will all just be a blink of an eye time wise in the grand scheme of things.

    Sleep apnea

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. The machine makes a world of difference. Put it this way.......imagine that you have a sleep reservoir...... Well with apnea, you are always empty.....bone dry so to speak. That's why I am guessing you take lots of naps and are constantly tired, especially late afternoon..... The mask allows you to get a good nights sleep and that helps you fill the sleep reservoir back up. I try to wear it several nights in a row and then If I do miss a night of wearing the mask, my reservoir is topped off and I'm still fine the next day. I am always lucky enough to have a sleep script which makes the mask tolerable when I do wear it but I'd guess that OTC meds can help you sleep as you get used to the mask. Stick with it and make an effort to get use to the mask. You will notice a huge difference in your alertness and how you generally feel during the day.

    Tomorrow is the day

Good luck ladies. Let us know how it goes.
  17. Heh, that's ironic that you just posted this, I just bought Hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup and put a squeeze in my optifast chocolate shake. What a difference it makes. My kids actually wanted to drink daddy's shake. I let them taste a bit.....I had to explain that this shake was my dinner. Of course being on day 8 , I was drooling over their chicken nuggets and string beans and would have gladly traded......but I held my willpower.

Before and after pics. 19+ weeks pot op.

First off, congrats on your success. You look great. I also agree with others...it's what you think that matters.... But you asked so...... Ok.....I'll try to answer this delicately and respectfully from a guy's view:) I think you are very balanced and natural looking at your current weight. Perfect!

    Headache Anyone?

I just went through the beginning of the preop(on day 5 now) The caffeine detox was pretty bad. I was a 10 diet coke a day guy prior. It will get better after a few days. If I had to do it again, I would have forced myself to detox prior to the preop diet.

    Encouragement needed preop diet blues

Ok, so I am also on day 5 and it has been brutal. The only thing that saved me is I made up a couple of homeade "soups" (broths) that have saved me today. I was gagging on plain broth so these are my chicken noodle and corn tortilla "soup" recipes. You would be amazed how some simple seasoning combinations can drastically enhance broth or boullion. My recipes: 2 cups Water 1 chicken boullion Dash onion powder Dash garlic powder Dash white pepper Smidgen freeze dried chives Smidgen dried thyme Smidgen celery flakes Microwave for 2:30 Enjoy Option 2 2 cups water 1/2 chicken boullion Package Sazon seasoning Dash cumin Dash adobo seasoning White pepper Chives and celery flakes

you are eating too few calories.

I'm not sure what part of my post implied that I was advocating low fat high carbs. I was just pointing out that 45% of diet made up of fat doesn't sound ideal. I am sure that in the several months since you were sleeved you have been able to try all sorts of diets and diet makeups to conclude what works for you. I think my post was to point out the major calorie density difference between fats and Proteins as it relates to total caloric intake. Whether newly sleeved or long time vet, we are all monitoring our caloric intake with a primary emphasis of Protein 1st and minimizing excess sugar and fats.
  22. inittothinit

you are eating too few calories.

40 grams of fat in an 800 calorie diet sounds a bit high. That's 45% of your calories from fat. (9 calories per gram of fat x 40= 360 calories)

I'm eating like a prisoner on death row

I I'm in day 3 of the pre op diet. I wished I had spent a few days detoxing off diet coke before I started this. I think the crash from no caffeine was worse than the no food thing...... My advice to anyone beginning the pre op diet is get off the caffeine 1st. Even if only a couple days of no caffeine, would have helped me. quote name="CubsWinCubsWin" post="3358791" timestamp="1392050964"]I am less than 3 weeks from my surgery date, I start on the 15 day liquid diet on Friday. Over the past couple days I have been going on a farewell tour of my favorite foods I am saying goodbye to after our long and intimate time together. Yesterday I used the Cheesecake Factory gift card I got for Christmas and tomorrow my mom is taking me to my favorite pizza joint for one last Chicago style thin crust sausage pizza. She is a little happy she no longer has to share pizza with me, she hasn't had a middle square in decades (Chicago thin crust is cut into squares, known as a party cut). My weekday lunch time routine of going out to a local fast food joint will soon be replaced with a brisk walk at the gym or outside around my workplace. If I get really industrious I will go down to the nearby ice rink and skate through my lunch period. Change has come to my life. Welcome change, very necessary change. Change to bigger things with a smaller waistline.

    The Last Supper...

I started today. If I could go back a week, I would've detoxed off of caffeine beforehand. That's been worse today than being hungry. I was normally good for 10 or more diet cokes a day and cold turkey sucks. But this is all for a bigger purpose so I'll suck it up.

To tell or not to tell...

I am not telling anyone. My wife knows and I told my kids that I am going on a hardcore special diet (but wont tell them about the surgery itself)....but I also told them it's "family" business and we don't ever talk about family business outside of us 4. I don't want or feel the need to tell my story and all the minute details over and over again. I also don't want to have the subject of my weight loss dominate conversations in social settings. So I am just resolved to answer "diet and exercise" when someone comments on my loss or asks how I did it.
