Regrets after Gastric Sleeve Surgery, is this normal?
Alfie replied to Wmc1231's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a sidebar that has me confused (I'm pre-op) when you say 40 oz are you calculating the water and protein combined? -
oh great. I have a bunch of coconut waters, small single servings. I am in New York. My doctor does both surgeries together, I guess unless there's an issue where he can't. I've been unfilled for over a month (gaining weight) and also had another recent endoscopy due to Barretts Espohagus scare. It turned out to be a normal endo thankfully. Hopefully, he will be able to do them at the same time. I know what you mean about continuing on your liquids just in case. When I had the Barretts scare I kept getting my testing done instead of waiting for the results of my latest endo. I'm so glad I did that otherwise I'd be getting a later date for my surgery.

Hi there, Thats amazing that you were just sleeved and you are feeling fantastic. I hope I have the same results as you. As my date is drawing nearer (23 days) I am getting very excited but at the same time I can't say I'm nervous but I'm just praying nothing goes wrong. In all the surgeries I ever got I've never really had "pain" so I'm hoping for that now as well.

Hi there I just saved your blog to my favorites and plan on starting to read it when I get back from a family lunch. I am pre op, 60 years old and have about 130 lbs to lose. Getting my surgery done on December 9 as a revision from lap band to sleeve. Looking forward to enjoying and learning from your blog. Thanks Alfie

Surgery while on blood thinners?
Alfie replied to Asher325's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I can't give you an answer as I am not being sleeved for another 3 weeks but I too am on Xarelto. I was told by my cardiologist that I had to stop taking it 3 days before surgery which is a little nerve-racking. Well, once you're in the hospital they will give you heparin to prevent clots (least that what I'm getting). I'm wondering how long after surgery we can start taking the blood thinner again. I am hoping and praying that after I lose the weight I may be able to stop this med. I am on it for A Fib which I only get very once in awhile. All the best to you on your surgery. Alfie -
Hi Oregondaisy, Are you feeling any better? I know its just 2 days later but sometimes things can improve quickly. You won't gain if you are eating within the guidelines of the bariatric food plan. It's all about calorie deficit

I got my follow up endoscopy and i do NOT have Barretts Esophagus. Yippee. Surgery set for December 9th!!

you look absolutely amazing. Look at that waist!!! Congratulations! -
I agree; why have to have it monitored if you don't have to. Easier that way. I have a hiatal hernia that he will fix when he does my sleeve...I am going from band to sleeve and the hernia is right next to my band.
-
congratulations. My date is also scheduled for December 9. Yay us!!
-
I agree wholeheartedly.

I had mine out in 2007. Best thing I ever did but I was having a lot of issues with it. The pain was intense. After i had it out I never had another belly ache. Do you have pain?

Revision people help!
Alfie replied to dustinwhall's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scheduled to have my revision surgery on December 9 just a few days after you. I just finished my psych and went to a support group on Tuesday. I did all my blood work..wow they took a lot of blood-5 big vials. I am going for my venus dopler, stomach sonogram, pulmonary and endoscopy all within these next 2 weeks. I already did my cardiology. I had a complete unfill about a month ago and boy it's really hard to eat in moderation with nothing stopping me. I also hated the feeling of being full but in the wrong place. It just wasn't natural. My band hasn't slipped but I now have a hiatel hernia right next to my band. He'll repair that whilest hes in there. All the best to you. Keep us posted! Alfie -
thank you docbree. I will. Just had my psych today
-
I got some more potential good news today I went to my gastro doc and she said the films (to her) look more like just inflamation but she can't say for sure until she does the endoscopy on Nov 14. Since I had a total unfill and have been taking the omeprazol I'm hoping even the inflamation has cleared up. I am cautiously optimistic.

Is being fat the worse thing a person could be?
Alfie replied to Sleeve_Sistah85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hear you and have thought of this myself. The thing that crumbles that view (in my opinion) is the health issues that come as our age goes up. I've been overweight since I was about 30 and at that point I had no comorbities but as the years go on, I'm getting them slowly but surely. Thus far I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high Cholesterol and Atrial Fibrillation. That has all happened in the last 10 years and I'm 60. So yes it's kinda bad not only in an aesthetic view but in a health wise view. -
Thats great news!!! All the best to you on November 4th!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I am not yet sleeved but I am banded. I also have a hospital deductible yearly so now is the time I'm sure you want to get your surgery done before 2015. Going through the insurance process can be long but it can also get done quickly if needed. Can you find someone that will do both surgeries together? -
I have not yet had my surgery either. I am scheduled for December 9, 2014. I've had similar reactions as I'm sure we all have. We each have our own personal journey and each of us knows what we've gone through. I say hold your head up high, take what helps and leave the rest. We can do this!!! Alfie
