Hi, I had open gastric bypass May 22 and it went great. They removed my gallbladder at the same time but even with that I was out of surgery in about an hour - as opposed to the 3 hours laproscopic. I found the recovery went really well, not a lot of crazy pain, and what I had was controlled with pain meds. I was walking around 5 or 6 hours after surgery - SUPER slowly, but walking. I was in the hospital 2 nights and released on the 3rd day with just percocet, I think. Pain was well managed and I was completely off the pills after a week at home. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks but probably could have after 1. The binder they give you really helps, so keep it on and tight. I've healed really well I think. It took maybe 1 full month to be able to sleep comfortably on my back in bed but other than that everything was pretty good. I only work part time anyway but went back to my schedule after 3 weeks. Week 2 I went in a day here or there. If you have any other specific questions please let me know - I'm happy to help!!
