  1. Almost a year post op! Would love to hear how everyone is doing!

    I understand how you feel. I haven't had time to work out lately either. DId my first workout in a few months yesterday. My weightloss has stalled. I know the stress of buying a house and moving away from my friends and family has made it hard to get my butt out of the house.

    However instead of focusing on the weight I haven't lost, I try to remember that if I didn't have this done, I wouldn't have lost the weight I have. Odds are I would be 20+ pounds heavier now. And even with the stress and not having worked out, my weight has stayed in the same 5lb range. That's miraculous for me!

    So just remind yourself to use the tool you've been given and don't get down on yourself. You wouldn't have lost 78lbs without it.

  2. Hi All...

    Mandie, I am so sorry I fell off the face of the earth after my post. I posted that two days before my surgery. It feels like a lifetime ago and it hasn't even been a year!

    The sleeve was the best thing I have ever done. I've never felt this good in my life! My a1c is down. Still not below 7 where I'd like to be but I've seen quite an improvement. I exercise regularly and am getting ready to participate in my first 5K. I feel like a "normal" person. It's just amazing what a difference the surgery has made in my life.

  3. SF, I don't know how I missed this post! I am so sorry to hear you had to have another surgery. How is your recovery going?

    I am still losing hair at 9 months out but nothing "alarming". I had extremely thick hair so now it sort of feels like when I'd go and get it thinned out a lot. The thing that worries me is that I just had to have a hysterectomy and my GYN said that Hair loss can be a major side effect. So, I am hoping it doesn't increase a significant amount. 2 surgeries in 9 months may just make my hair loss worse. My Dr. said the stress of being put under anesthesia coupled with the hormonal changes is a major factor in hair loss. Now I can times that by two :(


  4. Anyone stuck? I lost steadily until the last two months. I'm stuck 8lbs from the goal my surgeon set. I am actually two pounds below my personal goal. I set a goal 10lbs higher than my surgeon's because I never thought I could weigh less than 180lbs. Guess I should complain but it kills me that I'm hovering at 158. Even with thanksgiving being the past week I expected a gain. Nope. 158. Always. Lol.


  5. Has anyone lost friends because of your weight loss or surgery? My best friend and I have become so distant and even though she tells me it's not because of that, I know it is. I am sorry if this is too much for some of you. But I really don't have anyone else to turn to.

    She and I have never seen eye to eye on health. And she also lives in complete denial about her sedentary lifestyle and overeating. While I have been overweight my entire life i have also been an overall healthy eater (as an adult, my teenage eating habits were atrocious!) and I have always been very active. But since my surgery it makes it so hard for us to spend time together. All she ever wants to do is go eat when I want to go hiking or swimming.

    I am just so sad and overwhelmed that she finds ways to take jabs at me for my inability to eat too much because I don't want to spend $100 on dinner because I will never be able to eat it even if I do take it home. She has made it pretty clear it's my fault we can't spend time together anymore.

    I have also gotten too frustrated to be around her. If I hear one more time about how she doesn't need to lose weight because her boyfriend loves her the way she is I might smack her. I DIDN'T HAVE SURGERY FOR ANYONE BUT ME!!! Sorry. I know I'm going on and on. Like I said, I feel like I have no where else to turn. I expected relationships to change but I genuinely shocked and saddened by what has happened with the person I used to call my best friend. I'm just lost :(


  6. When I had surgery I "only" had 80 pounds to lose. Starting weight was 229. Doctor set a goal of 149. I thought he was INSANE. I could never weigh that. Well, 6 months out and I'm at 168. Only 19 pounds from goal! I went shopping with my family today. I was expecting to be a size 12. I came home with three pairs of size 8 jeans! It's so weird. I walked into New York & Co. (I haven't shopped there since I was 17 and it was called Lerner New York! Haha.) I picked up some 12s and 10s. I couldn't believe it when the sales assistant suggested i would need an 8. Clearly she had suffered a stroke or something. But she was right! I am so excited to shop now!

    For the slow losers, in the last two months I have only lost ten pounds. It's hard to hit the slow loss wall so I cant imagine how irritating it is to have always been a slow loser. I work out with a trainer twice a week and run almost every day. Its hard! But for me I try to look at it in a positive way. If I had never had this surgery, no diet and no amount of exercise would have helped me lose ten pounds over two months. So even though losing slow is frustrating, for me it's still a blessing.


  7. So, I went shopping today. A size freaking large shirt!! Today was the first time I've looked in the mirror and thought "holy sh!t I look good!" And liked what I saw. Loving life!

    I'm not nearly as brave to post photos. I keep telling myself I will but I just can't do it!

  8. I'm so glad someone else is experiencing these feelings and its not just me. I snack too. My surgeon encouraged fruit for Snacks. I'm doing grapes and apples. I've had a few episodes of what I believe is low blood sugar. Shakiness, sweating, and just an overall weird feeling. It usually happens about 3 hours after a meal. A small snack usually resolves my problems. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences! This makes me feel so much better!

    I have type 1 diabetes and that sound like low sugars to me. Feel free to PM me anytime. I also text if you ever want some instant support. I completely understand what you're dealing with!


  9. I know how you feel. I wish my sleeve was smaller. I feel like I can tolerate too much of too many foods. It's hard work for me to stick to my small portions. My hunger has increased. My surgeon said that is due to my increased activity and seeing the personal trainer 3 days/week.

    We are kindred spirits. I see my trainer twice but workout everyday. I can tolerate large portions but do my best not to. I had way more restriction when I had the band which I have heard is normal. But it's tough. I have noticed a huge increase in my hunger. I have to be careful when I snack. I know we aren't supposed to but if I don't eat something I feel awful and can't focus. So I snack on spoonfuls of Peanut Butter and allow myself fruit as a treat. I'm loving peaches and strawberries right now.

    I think I am ready to run a 5k. I just won't run my first 5k in the Southern California heat. So I'm looking into some in the fall. I have been pretty MIA. Hubs got a new job which is going to be amazing and we are getting ready to move out of my parents house. We are very excited and stressed all at once.

    How is everyone else doing?


  11. Anyone get light headed and flush feeling first thing in morning before eating anything? It's happened yesterday and today. Weird. I'm getting in 70 - 80 G Protein and 50-60 oz Water every day. I know I need more water. Dr said. To make sure to at the very least get in 48oz to stay hydrated. I don't like this feeling. Bought a new blood pressure wrist machine (for hubby). And took my bp today. It was 93/50. Also the feeling goes away when I lay down. So strange

    I went to the doctor about this today. She ordered a bunch of blood work. My blood pressure runs low already so she thinks its anemia.

    My odd NSV this week has been on a few separate occasions having a panic attack while driving because I thought I wasn't wearing my insulin pump. I remove it to change clothes and a few times over the 10+ years I have had them have actually forgotten it at home when I run errands. I guess it doesn't dig into my sides like it used to and I'm more comfortable when sitting. It's one of those funny little things you don't notice until its not there anymore.

    Another question for you...how was the pain? And how long did it take to heal since healing takes forever....and be up and about? Can you still see the scars?

    I've gotten my gallbladder taken out years ago and remember how painful it was and don't want to feel like that again. I don't have much pain tolerance anymore :(

    I'm THISCLOSE in making an appointment because I think this is what I need for my diabetes and PCOS, but still hesitating.

    I am on about a unit an hour now. Was on a range of 2-4 units an hour and on 1 unit to come down 20 points and 1 unit for 5 carbs. I now takev1 for 10 carbs. My sugars haven't gone nearly as high as they used to although I did hit 404 last night. I had a bad site. Anyway, 3.4 units brought me from 404 to 52. I was shocked.

    As for post op pain mine was pretty high. I don't want that to discourage you. I had the band in 2009 then had it removed in 2013. I think my pain was because they used 4 of the same entry points so I have a lot of scar tissue built up. I always tell people the first three days after surgery are the worst. But just a week post op my sugars were stable and I was able to walk 2 miles. It was an incredible transformation.

    It's not nearly as serious but my mom was hit by a car a few weeks ago and had a minor surgery due to her accident. We live with my parents right now so I have been a full time caregiver and full time mommy of a toddler for the last month and my diet and exercise routine have suffered. I struggled with my Protein and just got back to the gym for the first time yesterday. I gained 4 pounds over the past month too. It sucks! Please do your best to get some rest and at least get the protein in if you can. I know it isn't easy!

    Is your husband still in the hospital? Or is he home? Please keep us updated and don't hesitate to post here or even PM me if you need to chat.

    How is your mom. I hope she is ok. hang in there and that 4 lbs they will be off before you know it. Jeff (hubby) was discharged today so now we can figure out what our new normal will be. He drives for a living and they won't release him to go back (and rightly so) Until he sees a neurologist and has some tests on his reaction times. That is set for in two weeks. We figure he may have to change jobs now But we will take it one say at a time. I am just glad he is still here with me and other than some numbness on his right side. He can walk and talk and function. We have noticed his hand writing has changed and his right arm hangs by his side differently when he walks

    My mom is going to be fine. I'm just surprised how much I neglected to do what I needed to take care of myself. No gym workouts and awful eating. I reverted to fast food and easy high carb low protein meals quickly. The 4 pounds are already back off. And even though I would never want something like this to happen to anyone, the experience has been a good lesson for life after the sleeve. It really is all about choices. And yes. Caregiving for a sick or injured person is important. And getting to the gym may not be able to happen. But choosing a (very small, lol) quesadilla over protein won't help me feel any better. Mentally or physically.

    I don't know if having your husband will make it easier to do what you need to or harder. But I am glad he was well enough to go home. Strokes can be devastating. It's unfortunate about his job but I'm glad he is able to move around and talk to you. Let us know how it goes with the neurologist.


  15. Just wanted to check in. The weight-loss is going okay I'm down 84 pounds total. but things have gotten harder in the last couple days. Saturday my husband had a stroke and has been in the hospital since then it's been this made it harder to get in my Protein and Water but I'm working on it and I have still been able to walk a little bit just to get my mind At ease. Please keep my husband in your thoughts and prayers
