Hi Texans! I haven't been to this site in a while - so thought I'd pop in & tell you about groups that I'm involved with. One is dfwbandsters.com it's one of the YAHOO sites and the other is bandbuddies.com - also YAHOO. We have a dinner meeting the 2nd Thurs of each month off I-35 @ Northwest Highway at Jasons:hungry: . Then the next Thursday is in Arlington and the the first Saturday is a lunch in Plano. They also have a dinner meeting in Burleson once a month and I think one in Ft. Worth. You can go to the dfwbandster site and check the calendar. This is a great group -fun, supportive, helpful and lots of weight GONE! I've seen several inquiries here about support groups - so hope this helps. Oh yeah! I forgot (Fraudian slip) they also meet once a month for exercise and another night for belly dancing lessons and anothr night called "Speak-Out" night - everything is totally open for discussion on ths Speak-Out night. Dixie (aka Bandita)

I quit smoking ove 2 years ago - after having the habit for over 40 years. I've had 3 kids, including a c-section and one natural chilbirth, hysterectomy and back surgery - NOTHING was as tough as quitting smoking! LOL I used the patch also - helped a lot! And please don't tell me how expensive the patches are - add up the cost of cigarettes for a year and compare the savings! LOL You can do it! Fortunately my DH quit long before me - or I might not be here and able to post today! I WAS A BEAR! But, I'm so proud of myself now!

I was 65 in February. Had band surgery on June 7th. I'm doing really wll, almost 40 lbs down. I do not feel as if I'm dieting, nor do I feel deprived. I love my band. Yes there have been times that I wish I could eat as I use to, but they are few and far between. The band is a great tool and will help you have a better life. Joyce-Tx -
Renee, There are dinner meetings and support groups weekly in the DFW area. I'm not sure I am supposed to recommend another site on THIS site. You can email me privately and I will let you know where & how to find the support groups. Joyce-Coppell Having a hard time with getting a date for it. I was wondering if there is anyone how knows about meetings or support groups here in Dallas. I really feel like I need to talk to people. I am not from here and I only know about two people so it's very hard. Sorry is I sound like a whiner.. I am a self pay so I it's taken me one year of my life to save this mucha nd i want to do it right. Any help woudl be great.. I am thinking of getting it done on the 23rd of nov.. then bad to work on that next monday.. If I had to do it on a friday would I be well enough to work on a monday?? thanks soo much any help would be great.. Renee

What do you miss most from pre band days?
dixie replied to mercedes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not a damn thing! Well . . . . maybe yeast rolls swimming in real butter . . . naw. . . not even that! -
CONGRATULATIONS! Hey yall - it's HOT in Dallas!
-
I'm SUPPOSED to be retired! I keep small set of books for a dear friend and it's keeps me out of the pool halls & barrooms!
-
Don't LIE, but don't tell. It's none of their business. Most people don't have to miss but a day or two at work. I've worked in an HR department, don't for a minute think that your surgery will be confidential. According to Hippa, it is supposed to be confidential, but . . . . When (not if) they notice later that you are losing weight and ask you how you are doing it, you can truthfully reply "watching what I eat and exercising." Dixie

P.S. I'm down 28 lbs today! I'm one of those who weigh every day - it's a hard habit to break!

Thank you so much. I hope you don't mind, but I cut & pasted your entire post and sent to my daughter & daughter-in-law. I also printed a copy for me. My band date was 6/7, daughter's 6/23 and DIL was 8/4. This really hit home for me. I really enjoy this site and the freedom to speak about ANY topic. Thanks again, Dixie - Dallas

Barb, I second everything you said! In fact I started my own reply and reread yours - I agree with you 100% - especially the credibility statement. I visit other sites, but this is the one site I've come to rely on the get the facts and like you said the "good, bad or ugly". My surgery was 6/7/05 and I'm very pleased and happy with my band even though I've switched doctors for my fills. The switch had nothing to do with my surgeon's skills - the fill scheduling was a nightmare - so, I fixed it by finding another doctor - no big deal:rolleyes:

YOU GO GIRL! I've read good things on here and other sites about Mexico. Medicare paid for me or I would have probably gone to TJ and recouped on the beach!
-
Medicare and my Medi-Gap insurance paid for everything. I met the weight and BMI requirements. I was NOT required to have a psy. exam, sleep exam, nutrition counseling, etc. I had had a recent stress test so did not have to repeat that either. I was approved in 3 days. My surgery was scheduled 8 days after my consultation with my doctor. I was given tons of reading material and had been on the internet for months doing research. Hope this helps,

I have bouts with nausea also. Usually it's because I ate or drank too fast or didn't chew my food. Hang in, it gets better.

is anyone familiar with Dr. Maese (waiting on ins) and hoping to join the club!!!
dixie replied to doublestarrgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. Maese's staff did my 2nd fill and will do all the othrs hopefully. I found his staff to be professional, helpful and very kind. Believe me the kindness counts. -
I'm pretty sure the hair loss is related to 2 things. Anesthesia (sp?) and lack of protein. I've seen hair loss before on a friend who rapidly lost weight and did not eat properly. Also, I think hair loss after surgery is due to the anesthesia. Mine has thinned a little, but my expert hairdresser says it will come back when I start getting all my protein in. She also recommended Nioxin#1 shampoo for fine hair and Nioxin Scalp Therapy for fine hair has a conditioner. Then once a week do a protein treatment - Redkins C.A.T. followed by the Nioxin Scalp Therapy. I haven't personally tried this yet - but I will and let y'all know the results.
