http://www.amazon.com/The-Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-ebook/dp/B0054RXXS0 The Emotional First Aid Kit & Big Book of Gastric Sleeve. Both were excellent.
  2. I'm two weeks post op. I haven't gotten to the point where people comment about my weight yet. I'm not sure what I'm going to say. Probably portion control. Try to cut out all the crap and exercise. All are true facts.

    Post-op food nightmares..

I had another dream last night that I busted my sleeve eating a salad and tried to throw it up to save my sleeve. Post op diets are rough.

    Personal trainers

I've had several personal trainers. You won't always click with the person you are paired up with. SPEAK UP! If you aren't comfortable breaking up with your trainer face to face, tell management. But don't suffer and waste your money. Since you are new to gyms, you may consider a smaller gym or one just for women. I've had both male and female trainers and for me, it's all about personality. For your hour (or 1/2 hour) you should get their undivided attention 100% of that time. If you don't, get someone else. You can let your trainer know that one of your goals is to get comfortable at the gym so you'd like to try a lot of different activities and machines. Good luck!

    Post-op food nightmares..

I had surgery Wednesday. My first night home I dreamt I ate a giant cinnamon roll that burst open my sleeve. I woke up in a hot sweat totally panicied. When I went back to sleep. I had dreams about puppies and kittens not getting enough milk and starving. It was horrible. So yes, I have nightmares about food. Lol. I also just dream about food - if I fall asleep watching tv and here food commericals, I eat in my dream. Today was pizza. I'm 4 days post-op - I hope this eventually mellows out. I had majotr head hunger today. There's no way I really WANTED to eat or COULD eat, but my mind sure wanted to mess with me today. Chewing a Pepcid actually helped a lot - just the act of chewing got my mind off food.

    Gum

I'm not allowed gum at first either. I didn't ask why. I just said okay. I've had braces for a year so it's been that long since I've had gum anyway. I can't wait for the braces to come off! It will be shortly after surgery.

    guilty fitness conscience

It sounds like your intent isn't to quit fitness though. You aren't quitting, you're just changing to something that doesn't injury you. That's called being smart. Lol You're stopping Crossfit and starting P90x. Not QUITTING! Besides some people get super into P90x/Insanity. You should check out meetup.com. I know my city has an Insanity meetup group and they go to parks multiple times a week. If you like the "team" aspect, that may be something you'd like.
  10. I like the idea a lot! I'm in Dallas, Texas and would love to be a co. It would be awesome to do it like a meetup group. Like someone mentioned going walking. There is a group in Dallas but they meet at restaurants and that's very off-putting to me.
  11. I asked if I could see my stomach after they removed it and he said no, they needed to send it off to pathothy (regulations and what not) but if it was the 80s he would have sent it home with me. Haha. He said he'd be happy to take some pictures after I'm sleeved. I'm wondering if anyone else has made the same request or if they have a video. Hopsitals should really offer an add-on bloggers package so you leave with a souviner of pictures and a dvd. Lol I'd totally pay for it!

    What size bougie was used?

My surgeon also pointed out it also depends on how tight the stomach was made with sutures. It's some pretty complicated stuff. Fascinating.
  13. This is part of why I'm getting the sleeve now. I want a breast reduction and the dr told me to do the wls first and see where I land. I hate having boobs.

    What size bougie was used?

It's just something I was curious about. Obviously i trust my medically trained surgeon to make the call, I was just wondering if I was going to see a common number. My surgeon said he'd likely use a 36, but he said he had to wait until he got in there to make a final decision. He said sometimes people go in (often other surgeons or their spouses) so he'd do whatever... It's just one of those things where curiosity of the unknown and probably focusing attention on something that ultimately doesn't matter so I don't freak myself out about surgery.

    What size bougie was used?

I like that point. I'm just so worried I'm going to pay all of this money and be disappointed with the outcome.
  16. If you live in Dallas and know of a support group that's open to the public, can you let me know about it. I only know of 1 and I missed it this month. Thank you!
  17. That's so incredibly disrepectful. I can't tell you what to do, and I don't know the details of your relationship, but I know I would not be okay with someone talking to me that way. I think you should re-evaulate your relationship, minimally.
  18. I like to think that most people give themselve post surgery makeovers. New clothes for sure, which is basically like a makeover. But did anyone give themself a PRE-SURGERY makeover? I'm thinking about cutting my hair short (it's super long) partly because I'm already losing it due to stress and I image it's only to get worse, and partly because I kind of want to see myself in a new way. The "new" me that goes to the gym, and watches what she eats, etc. Did anyone else do something like this? I think my long hair has been a crutch for me, a blanket so to speak. It's long and curly, but it's starting to thin so much, I think it might just be time for it to go anyway. I'd be cutting off a good 12 inches or more. What do you think?
  19. I didn't take a before! I realized it when I was driving home. Also, I tried to post a pic, but I don't know how. Hahaha. I tried to drag and drop but it didn't like that.
  20. Well... I did it... I cut off over 12 inches. I'm not sure I like my new haircut. I think it needs longer layers - but there's not going back now!
  21. In the book: Emotional First Aid Kit it talks about how people that think WLS is going to solve all their problems are usually disappointed/fail. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that was really just generally angry/unhappy before WLS and it improved. I feel like for the most part, I have a pretty good life. I have a good job, while it's frustrating as crap right now, I think my bad-attitude has really effected my general perception of it - but it's fairly interesting and pays good enough. I like my apartment, I'm not too horribly in debt (although I'll be paying for surgery which is going to set me back 12k which is my up-and-coming debt). i'm college educated, love my dogs, etc. But I feel like I'm wearing a fat suit. I think I've been passed over for promotions/jobs because of my weight and only creepy old men are intersted in me (I haven't been on a date in 3 years! - although I think bad attitude is probably a factor here too). Am I going to fail because I think surgery will make me less angry (for exmaple - clothes will fit in the morning when I put them on, I'll feel better about myself etc) or do I really need to look into therapy. I don't really know why I'm so angry, I just feel gross inside my own body and it makes me have a lot of anxiety/frustraton that turns into anger. What do you think?

    The Easy Way Out

I don't think there is an EASY way to lose weight no matter how you do it. Effort is required no matter how people do it. I think more people are successful KEEPING the weight off with WLS because it is a tool to help you commit to life-long lifestyle changes. Ultimately you can only worry about how you feel about yourself and make the choice whether WLS is personally right for you or not.
  23. Those are some good points I didn't think about. Thanks!

    Recommened Protein Shakes

Gets my vote. Mine too! It's conveient and tasty - and reasonably priced. I also recommend just buying a lot of samples from different companies and trying them to keep you from getting bored.
  25. I really like Premier Protein RTD. I'm worried if I drink too much of it, I'm going to get bored. When you all did your pre-op diet, did you have a routine (A certain drink for breakfast, something else for lunch something for dinner) or did you drink the same thing 3-4x a day? How many Blender Bottles do you own?
