How long is the port site tender after surgery?

Thanks for your response and thanks to the others too. Hopefully, with time all of us never know the port is there (except maybe when we get filled)! -
How long is the port site tender after surgery?
lizster2007 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded Aug 17/07 and my port site is still quite tender if I slightly press on it. I guess I'll just stop pressing on it for now! What I would like to know is if anyone recalls approximately how long their port site was tender/sore. I sure hope it's better before I get my first fill as I can't imagine right now I'd be too happy getting prodded and injected! Please let me know your experience. Thank you. :girl_hug: -
Dr. Yau in Toronto
lizster2007 replied to Sybaritic01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Similar to jetlagjane, there has been no mention of ever seeing Dr. Yau post op (I'm about 2 weeks banded). Like Jane, I imagine if I wanted to see him or had a band-related medical concern I probably could but it doesn't appear to be the routine. I've read a number of posts on this site that indicate other people have regular post op appointments scheduled with their surgeon to check to see how their incisions are healing etc. as opposed to an on-request basis. I'm Ok with what TLBC appears to do post operatively (as so far I don't think I have any post operative issues) , but it does seem quite different from other places. Pre operatively the only time I ever saw Dr Yau was for about 5 minutes moments before my surgery (asked if I had any questions, made a few remarks about the band, asked me to sign the release). Initial consult was done by a non-medical person and any other 'medical discussion' prior to the surgery was by phone with a 'nurse manager'. Blood tests, chest Xray, and ECG were the only tests required and no requirement for my family doctor to sign anything (which I also see posts on this site that indicate it seems to be required for some other clinics-I don't know whether that is for some insurance coverage reason or not-of course there was no insurance coverage in my case). I did ask once whether Dr. Yau would want to see me pre-operatively and was told, not unless I wanted to see him. I have to admit I was surprised by that but I really didn't have any other frame of reference at the time to know whether it was unusual in the industry (hadn't found this site yet!). There are nutitional seminars one can attend pre and post operatively that explain the various diets and I found the one I attended to be informative. The nutritionist is very helpful and friendly. I haven't gone for my first fill yet, so cannot comment on that process yet. -
Congrats Chris!

Lapbandit-well done! You are looking fabulous-I know I'm repeating what the others have said, but I can't help it. What a great accomplishment!

FIrst Fill at TLBC - October 1st ???
lizster2007 replied to rose suongas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Cindy, I was also banded on August 17th. I gather they have a group of people for their first fill so maybe depending on when you were banded and when they have these group fill seminars (not sure I want an audience!) , it may take longer to get the fill. Also the Dr. told me that they don't fill prior to 6 weeks as the manufacturer of the band recommends not to. It could be some legal protection for them if they wait the recommended time. Who knows... I, like Rose am looking forward to some solid food and I'm afraid that when I can do that (at 4 weeks), I will likely overeat. : ( -
FIrst Fill at TLBC - October 1st ???
lizster2007 replied to rose suongas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Rose, I believe that's the day and time too for my first fill. Will keep an eye out for you! -
Hi, I was banded 6 days ago and had a fair amount of trouble for the first 3 or 4 with nausea and consequently didn't have much to drink and lived on anti nauseants. The nausea has abated and now I suddently seem to have a coated tongue (and probably roof of mouth although I can't see it very well). It does not go away with brushing teeth or using mouthwash etc. Does this coated tongue thing sound familiar to anyone? Please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks losingjusme. I am finding it a challenge to drink enough water but I'm trying hard to do so.

Good info. Thanks Jack!

Many thanks Kat. You're probably right about the thrush. Thanks for the welcome too!

New to Site, would like input!
lizster2007 replied to Nettie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Nettie, I was banded yesterday and am glad I did it. I was apprehensive about this procedure too and it took me several months to decide. I think if you are truly ready to change (and the band is a tool, rather than a weight loss silver bullet), then the discomfort and stringent eating before and after the surgury will be worth it. Good luck with your decision! -
Post your online name and date of surgery only in this post....
