It still hurts to eat and drink
NittanyLion replied to Only Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your surgery! You are now one of use (those wearing a sleeve no matter what)! I had a sleeve done in 2014. Unfortunately, I gained all my weight back and added to it! I’m not sharing that to discourage you or something I am proud of. But, I too have been results oriented my entire life. I have been an expert at loosing weight fast! If I could make one suggestion it would be to follow the prescribed food plan and focus on your journey! Losing the weight will happen naturally and you will have developed the tools and habits for the weight to be gone forever! I am beginning the next step of my journey: a SADI-S procedure. I am 61 and I will never give-up trying! -
Sleevers who have been diagnosed with Bile Reflux
NittanyLion posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved back in feb of 2014. Ever since, I have struggled with my stomach feeling upset when I don't have something in it. Also, Water makes me nauseous. Two months ago, my surgeon performed a scope and found I have bile reflux. We have tried the common drugs to try to help (bile sequestration, acid inhibitors) and nothing has helped. She also prescribed Sucralfate to coat the stomach and help with the upset feeling. Hasn't helped. She tells me there is not much else to do other than performing a gastric bypass. Would like to know of any sleevers who have bile reflux and how they are coping? I am eating about every 2-3 hours just to help minimize the sick feeling on the tummy. Also, find my diet very limited, since many foods such as meat, fruits and veggies cause my stomach to wrench. So, eating allot of yogurt, dairy, etc which seem easier to digest. I have lost 80 pounds, but gained 7 lbs back. I am really concerned about how I am going to be able to keep the weight off while trying to cope with this bile reflux issue! Thanks in advance for anyone who has a sleeve and is dealing with bile reflux! -
2+ months post-op. Am concerned this is not going to change. Can mix SF powder and am ok. Just wondered if anyone had this issue and if it went away?

Congrats! Just remember..... You are beginning a journey and it was for me the most significant choice I ever made. Take it one day at a time and reach out when you need help. I had my surgery 2 months ago and I am just beginning to learn how to eat with the sleeve. Welcome! -

Awesome, tx so much! -
I am sure you understand why you have to quit smoking, right? Same reason why we need to stop caffeine. Both caffeine & nicotine sharply increase the risk of stomach ulcers. When you are left with 15% of your former stomach, ulcers are a very big deal. For the love of yourself, don't move forward until you conquer this and any of the other prerequisites. It is a hard enough journey when you have met the prereq's, you don't need to add more risk.

No complications, but a few questions for the veterans: Struggling allot with fatigue. Is this common? Stomach feels upset most of the time. Only when I just eat does it feel better. Normal? At what point did you start taking meds without crushing? Nausea - I still have 2-3 times a day (usually in the evening) where I get extremely nausiated. Anyone else experience this and at what point did the nausea go away? Tx in advance 4 your feedback!

Starting my first day preop diet
NittanyLion replied to jlperalta1833's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will do great and one pound will not be a problem. sugar free Popsicles, SF Jello and chicken broth made it so much easier to do. Get some of the SF calorie free flavoring to help get rid of the "fackie Shakie" taste of the Optifast shakes. After a few days, you will find your groove and before you know it... You will be done. I am just 4 days post-op, so the preop wasn't too far in the past:-) HW: 291 SW: 259 CW: 254 -

Wondered if I could get a few responses from a few guys in their 50's about their surgery and recovery from a sleeve gastrectomy? -

Are you comfortable talking about it?
NittanyLion replied to Defying Gravity's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your healthcare/information is your personal business. She has no legal right to ask and you aren't required to disclose. It is reasonable to ask for a return date and I would let your doc provide the answer. Guidelines from my doc are 4 weeks. Some can return earlier and later depending on complications and your personal ability to recover. As for me, I didn't even tell my family. So, definitely not sharing with.a perspective employer. Hope this helps? -
Had my sleeve surgery on Feb 3rd 2014. How i felt and what happened before, during and after.

Thank you so very much for detailing the experience and your feelings and thoughts throughout the pre and post-surgical experience! Of all the experiences I have read, yours was the most valuable! My surgery is scheduled for 2/18. I have two young boys (3 1/2 and 2) and the mortality equation weighs very heavy on my mind. I'm hoping for the best and have my expectations set for accepting what happens. The thought of leaving 2 boys without a father and my wife to bare the brunt of the loss constantly occupies my thoughts. Thanks again! You helped me feel connected... -

Day 1 Pre-op opti-Fast
NittanyLion replied to NittanyLion's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Veronica, opti-Fast is the only product my doc will prescribe per-op. Post-op is much more flexible. GNC has a banana flavor I am planning on trying. One thing nice about GNC is they will refund your money if you dont like as long as you return within 30 days. I used a Healthcare Spending Account to pay for the opti-fast items. Since, it is a required (ordered) by the surgeon. They may challenge me? But, Drs office said I shouldn't have any problems.... Good luck to you! -
