Surgery in 6 days! Help me with my post-op grocery list!
Dorothy76 replied to gohelpyourself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When did you advance to full liquids? What did you tolerate? I was on clear the first week then pureed for 4wks and soft for another 4wks... the first week crystal light was my best friend!! I cant do plain Water and I didn't like the taste of the protein or broth. Jello was also really good. when I went to pureed foods I did well with greek yogurt, pureed sweet potatoes, nonfat milk, cottage cheese and my Protein shakes. I would add a new food every other day or so. Everyone is different after surgery, you really cant go on others experience with foods. As long as you try what your nutritionist says your body will let you know rather quickly what you can and can't tolerate. -

I went out and bought all kinds of sugar free Jello , ice pops, low sodium broth and stage one baby food for the pureed stage. I found it was such a waste of money. When I got home from the hospital it took all I had just to get my Protein shake and fluids in. The hospital was a little loud but honestly it didn't bother me one bit. I was so drugged up someone could play the drums right next to my bed and I wouldn't have cared one bit. I also took a book, my cell phone and some crossword puzzles. I didn't need them at all. Do take a good pair of soled slippers with you. That's the one thing I forgot and I wished I had brought. I didn't realize they would have me up and walking every 2-3 hours and walking the halls in the hospital socks didn't make me feel very protected from icky stuff that could have been on the floor. A pillow for on the ride home would have been great also. -
lying to myself...........

I started at 382 pounds but told everyone I was around 360. I don't know why that 22 pounds mattered to me so much but it did. I decided to stop lying to myself and everyone else as well, Because if I couldn't face my problem, how was I going to fix it. So the day before I was sleeved I took front, back and side pictures of myself wearing a tight tank top and yoga pants. I then posted those pictures and my weight on Facebook for everyone to see!!! I had a lot of people ask me "why did you do that"... or "aren't you embarrassed?" Yes I was very embarrassed and ashamed but I also felt tremendous relief for some reason. Now I know there are pictures of me in very tight clothes showing every roll I have floating around cyber space, but I feel more free now for it. -
I was on lovenox 2x a day for 4 week after surgery. It was such a pain in the butt. I was only on liquids for 1 week after surgery then pureed for 3 weeks and soft for 4 weeks. I was able to start full regular diet week 9.

Foods you can't tolerate since surgery

mine is anything with refined sugar in it... I get very sick. -
I saw this last night and I was dumbfounded. WTF, this woman should have been made to follow the 6 month nutrition and weight loss classes almost all of us had to take before surgery was approved. Maybe if she was forced to take the classes and go to a psychologist she would have been better prepared. but anyone who is eating fast food on the way to the hospital should re-think having the surgery. I feel so bad for all the people who helped her financially, I am also angered that she is on disability and food stamps. All the tax payers are footing the bill for her to stay 600 pounds. I am thankful I saw it though because it shows that it is easy to fall back into past behaviors. I needed to see a failure story to cement in my head this is not a cure all surgery but a tool. She needs her husband to stop enabling her. He needs some therapy as well. It is just a sad story all the way around. I just can't understand how she could physically eat so much right after surgery to not lose any weight. I could hardly eat anything, it was a struggle to just get my fluids in.
