  1. Ive never been a pot-smoker because its kind of a downer...but I know one girl who smoked pot forever, and still does, and graduated valedictorian and is on the dean's list...shes really a pothead...but it helps her concentrate to get things done and really focus on what shes doing...now Ive seen some idiots who do it too...but Ive seen some freakin geniuses. Like a professor of mine, he was BRILLIANT! and smoked TONS of pot lol! I never smoked before surgery, I HATE the smell of it, it makes me literally sick and nauseated....but I dont knock anyone who does it, and keeps their life in order. I definately wouldnt do it after surgery because of the terrible munchies that take over...Im a calorie counter and just couldnt bare to give in to something like that...but hey if you can handle it, its cool
  2. Im doing the diabetes check on presidents day...boo...i dont want to do it because I know they are going to make me drink that sugary stuff....plus I have to fast...and that sucks with my pregnancy because I crave snacks rather than actual meals
  3. Thats just it....there is one doctor one way and one doctor the other...thats it....I drive an hour and 45 mins just to see my doctor i see now, the other guy is closer in another town...but like I said anyone that can mess up like that I dont want poking me with anything.
  4. I still drink caffeine, I dont remember ever being told not to....but carbonation is a no no when Im filled....it HURTS and I have problems eating for atleast 24 hours afterward...it expands the stomach and could cause slippage and all kinds of problems with the band. Plus there is no good soda....diet or not. They are loaded with CRAP that is bad for you and makes you feel bad. Im serious, when Im filled and unpregnant I stick to crystal light, some juices, vitamin water, milk, and regular water, and tea...occassionally a cup of coffee. However caffeine can really dehydrate you, and it too much can make you feel icky too. I remember that from my college days that I would stay up for 2 or 3 days straight. Neither one just arent any good for the body whether your overweight or not, and really should be avoided.
  5. OMG nikki, I would so rather have my ailments any day over just one UTI much less 2 and a sick child!
  6. Okay....now Im starting to sound like a hypochondriac....but seriously....ugh! I feel like everything is going haywire...okay here it is... K, so Ive always been big...so Im familar with the little heat bumps and rashes that us big gals get between our thighs thanks to friction. Thats why I rarely wear anything but pants. I got down to about a size 12 at my smallest, and still got them when I wore skirts a dresses....yes they are irritable, but not unbearable...So about 3 or 4 days ago I felt a little stinging pain between my thighs (very close to my netherregion) and dismissed it as that since Ive been having night sweats and wearing a little night gown, I figured it was just that, and it was worse just because I am bigger now. I must admit I dont really look too often because its difficult with my expanding belly lol. So I assumed thats what it was....well it has worsened over the past few days and as gross as it sounds I havent been able to bathe well until last night because of my back. I decided to check out the pain down there, and didnt really notice anything but a little irritated skin, which I attributed to the sweating and higher body temperature....so today after my bath, Im sitting around in my towel because although my back is better its still sore...so Im putting off getting dressed and enjoying being naked at home alone lol! So before I get dressed I decide Im going to make a concentrated effort to check this out because its starting to burn and hurt, not really itch though, and it feels like its spreading or something. So I prop myself up on a lot of pillows and manage to look past my belly and see my right inner thigh were the pain is coming from, and see that its not little bumps, but rather a rash like large red area, and its like a continous rash looking thing, but has a couple of large bumps, and the skin is really dry....I couldnt really position myself to see the left side, but I felt and it feels the same as the right...it really burns and hurts...its really uncomfortable UGH third trimester hits and its hell from day one lol!!! My pregnancy has been so smooth and quick, and now its like WHOA! Anyways, to be honest, it reminds me of diaper rash lol! I looked stuff up on the internet and it doesnt look like any of the pics Ive pulled up, so Im sure its not serious.....but it does hurt and is very bothersome....and cant go to the Dr until Monday...boo :crying: HAHA anyways...the whole point behind even telling you guys is to ask if you think its due to the newly gained weight....its weird I will maintain the same weight for a long time, then gain all at once...so I was thinking htat my body may have gotten used to being thinner and now that Ive gotten larger again, its not used to it??? Or if maybe my hormones are causing this....They way it looks, Im scared the skin is going to crack EEP! Its really freaky looking :s GOd Im such a worry wart lol!
  7. WOW that is crazy!! lol I was worried because the dentist took xrays last week lol! I used a lead apron, but Im a worry wort...much less figuring out I had had surgery while I was pregnant and didnt know....WOW! However, I know that some people have the surgery to be able to conceive....plus I was only 18 when I had mine, I would think that my doctor would know that I planned to have kids one day (although this wasnt exactly planned lol)...I dont think there is anything wrong with conceiving after the surgery, its actually beautiful, plus you can teach your kids to to eat healthy...
  8. LOL I was signed up for an epidural in my fourth month...lol I made sure they knew I wanted one...I remember my best friend going into labor and refusing one, then changed her mind at the last minute...shes deathly afraid of needles, but she sure chocked it up for that :glare: I have to drive an hour to have my baby, so we have a plan, if we even THINK its labor we are going, we will rent a hotel if necessary....but Im getting the epidural, plus Im scared half to death of having the baby anywhere but the hospital....so we have a plan thank God....Hope we can stick to the plan haha
  9. I got fired from my full-time, good job...now Im back substituting little HEATHENS! I swear, people do not raise their kids anymore!! Im scared half to death that Im going to run into some problems because just Wednesday I was walking into a building and walked right between to large boys as tall as me (Im a shorty lol)....trying to fight...I had to get myself and my class out of the way (well both boys were my students that day actually)....but I was really scared of getting punched in the stomach or knocked down....but I REALLY cant handle doing the little kids, they really rack my brains (that crap they do is only cute when they are family :tongue2:) I get so stressed out subbing, mainly because I dont want to be there most of the time...its easy, and atleast minimum wage...good hours...but I really dont like other people's kids....never have...but its the only place that will let me work right now.... BTW: I went to the chiropractor today...and I have a slipped disc or something in my lower back, and judging by the Dr's face and amount of pushing it was slipped WAY out...he said that when you get pretty far along then your body begins to lube up its joints and stuff and thats what caused it to slip....and I have to go back 3 times next week....but OOOOOOOooohhhh they put me on this massage rolling table for like 30 mins and I want one for personal use lol! I could sleep on that thing every night  The baby liked it too because she has been REALLY active lately (which I have been thankful for), but after a few mins on the table she and I both were asleep lol...My back feels so much better, its still sore and achy, but the dr pulled out the "knife" that i swore was stabbed into my back.... Im hoping to be more mobile this afternoon and tomorrow...I have to take it easy, but Im tired of this damn recliner lol
  10. I got the green light to go to the chiropractor, but it was so late I cant go until tomorrow...which means I have to miss another freakin day of work!!! Im broke and need the money lol!! doesnt my body understand that?? congrats on the scheduled c-section,
  11. Anybody else have REALLY bad back problems....like crippling back pain and stiffness??? I threw my back out this morning, and I had to miss a day of work because I couldnt even go to the bathroom without help this morning...Im going to go to the chiropractor either today or tomorrow, but this is the 3rd time or so during the pregnancy that my back has gotten REALLY bad, and this is the worst instance yet....even my mom feels sorry for me, and she has no sympathy for anyone lol!
  12. The thing that concerned me about the blood was the amount of it, it scared me half to death, because at first I thought it was coming from my vagina, after a careful check I realized the culprit lol! I havent had any other bouts with it, or any other problems, Im pretty regular so Im not too concerned unless it happens again, however it still freaked me out lol!
  13. Hello ladies! Just wanted to inform all of you that I woke up freakin pregnant last week lol! I feel like a freakin house! But atleast I feel better without all the people asking if Im eating enough, or if the band is causing problems with the baby and all that....HOWEVER Im still not at my pre-band weight (which is good, I dont mind being that big again because of the pregnancy, but the longer I can hold back the better ) It was so weird, I woke up and couldnt get into anything but maternity pants and bigger tops, then I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror lol! My rolls had turned into a gut, it was quiet funny actually. I went to the Dr. Thursday for my routine visit, and explained to her that I hadnt been feeling the baby move as often as I thought I should. So she took out the doppler thingy and put it on my belly to listen to the hearbeat and to check for frequent movement, and OFCOURSE the baby had to show out for her. She came alive in there lol! You could SEE my tummy going up and down where she was moving....needless to say, I think my Dr thinks Im crazy! Also, this is a gross TMI Q but I wanted to know, have any of you had a bloody stool? I had a problem with that a week ago, and everyone told me it would be okay. I didnt feel sick or anything, the sight of the blood and stress of it made me a little queasy, but other than that I was cool. Candice, Im so sori that everyone is stressing you out...I think thats why Ive become such a hermit (for some reason, when people known a pregnant woman they become pregnancy experts lol)....that and my devotion to my school work. Turn the phone on silent, thats what I do hehe, chek it ever so often. Im just praying that Im somewhere close to on time with mine because my mom carried over with older sister like 18 days, and carried over with me 23! Im just hoping its not a genetic thing lol! But eventually the baby will come...my poor friend almost had her baby boy too early so they stopped her labor and put her on bedrest, then the baby came a whole week LATE, that poor dear, she thought it would never be over. Hope you finally get that precious baby out soon so you can hug and kiss him/her. Best of luck (know your probably tired of hearing that kind of stuff, but you need all the luck you can get right now lol To the newly pregnant ladies, congrats and hope you have a good pregnancy, dont worry about the band so much...its actually pretty nifty even during pregnancy
  14. I still wear mostly regular clothes vs maternity (mainly because maternity pants are either too big or too small) right now. Im sure that I will have to get into more maternity pretty soon (right now I only have 2 pairs of maternity pants which are TOO TOO big, but the size down is WAY too small. As for tops, if I see a nice maternity shirt that I like, I buy it;otherwise I just buy bigger size tops to save money. Im a penny-pinching fool right now lol! Plus I hate buying new clothes that I know I can only wear for like 3-4 months. As for my port, it does protrude badly...but everyone thinks its kinda neat/weird at the same time lol! Mine is in an unusual place, so no one thinks its the baby, however it is a neat little "Hey feel this!" thing lol! Oh BTW: I have found that maternity is SOOOOO much more comfy than regular mainly because of the lack of button digging into my belly lol!
  15. LOL I thought I would let you know that it bothers me too! BADLY! Ive always been heavy, but Ive always dressed for my body to look as kept and presentable as anyone else. I hate it when people dont know how to dress their bodies (whether they are thin or bigger)! Dont the bigger people know that dressing like that makes the world (who is already biased against us) give us more reason to poke fun and stereotype us as gross and nasty and lazy and so forth and so on?? Even my maternity clothes are REALLY cute, I wont wear anything that even so much hints to a hill, valley, dimple, or chunk of unwanted fat! Yes I like to be comfy (especially during pregnancy), but there are ways to do that without looking like a slob!
  16. I would sue or take further action, but a.) I cant afford it because well...I lost my job lol! b.) I cant prove it because all sources have their mouths shut because they dont want to lose their jobs.' c.) I just really think that she and the company will get whats coming to them in the long run, I just dont have time for stupidity.... I really try to think happy thoughts most of the time, but Im not gonna lie and say I am happy 24/7. I actually sat down this weekend and just spent it alone (i usually spend it with friends) and just let myself have a really good cry. P.S. Of all organizations to do this to someone, it happens to be Christus Health Organization.....so yeah, not a very christian thing to do now is it?
  17. Thanks for the good wishes The only reason I did say that about people believing that abortion is the answer to unplanned pregnancy is because when I first told people on here I got a couple of responses along the line of "you should just get rid of it" and so forth as well as telling me to just either have an abortion or give the baby up for adoption, neither of which were ever an option in my own mind. However, adoption is GREAT and I plan on adopting children in the future, Ive ALWAYS wanted to adopt (from the United States) because I feel like our orphans are often overlooked and neglected by people because of money and it is hard to get a baby baby here, I wouldnt mind adopting older children. Anyways, thats a whole different subject....however I was just explaining my post
  18. Im due on Cinco de Mayo (May 5), but Im doubting that I it will be that early lol!! Im pretty sure Im going to carry-over, I just have a feeling. The only concern Im having right now is the normal stress of pregnancy, and the fact that Im not feeling little "folly" move around inside me as much as the doctor says I should, but we are going to do an ultrasound the 31st and the doctor is going to make sure everything is as okay as it appears, and also to show me her move and learn to identify the moving vs. other things like gas and stuff. Besides that I lost my job because my boss found out I was pregnant She didnt say thats what it was, but it has gotten back to me from more than one reliable source that that was the reason, which I suspected all along because of the unusual way she let me go (just out of nowhere, no warning or anything). Im having to deal with that PLUS the fact that no one wants to hire someone that is 6 months pregnant and almost done with college and preparing to move on into a real career vs just a job. (Its a small town, they expect their employees to stay for a looooooong time). Not to mention that the father's girlfriend is driving me INSANE because she is psychotic and really not the brightest crayon in the box. LOL! But things will get better right???? They have to dont they??
  19. I had an unfill at about 4 months into my pregnancy, I waited until I knew I needed to be taking in more food before I got it done because Im trying to only gain a decent amount of weight, not a tub load lol!
  20. I know this is irrelevant, and Ive promised to keep myself out of this and other rants and raves discussions (many of you know why). However, I just wanted to let you guys know that I am now 6 months along, and although this whole thing wasnt planned; and yes I hate it, but I admit I have thought of what my life would be like if I had had an abortion, I am truly happier than I have ever been in my entire life. Im so much stronger, responsible, mature, and confident than I was pre-pregnancy. Just thought I would throw that out there. That abortion isnt the answer for every soon-to-be single-mother (I know most of you dont believe that it is, but for the few that do). Im proud and happy with my decision, I know its not easy, but I feel like I have made the right one as opposed to my ex-roomate who now has to go to counseling because of the abortion she had, its been that rough on her. She will barely even speak to me, because I chose to keep my baby girl and she didnt keep her baby. She admits to over-reacting, but what is done is done, but she just cant get that through her mind right now. Anyways, just thought I would put this out there
  21. Hi everyone, I just wanted to pop in and tell everyone hi. Its been a while since Ive been on. Ive been extremely busy, and have had to deal with a lot (and I mean A LOT) of B.S. the past month. Im just trying to make it through without getting overly stressed out. Im 6 months pregnant ALREADY! Jeez how time flies! Ive only gained about 20 lbs, but Im sure that it will increase, it seems like the further I get into the pregnancy the more I want to eat! lol! Im serious, I will be STARVING sometimes. Im trying to watch it though, dont want to have to OVER work after the baby gets here. I hope everyone is doing well, and good luck, I know some of you are probably pretty close to having those bundles of joy!
  22. OMG! Im so Excited! I just found out Monday that despite all the predictions of me having a little boy, that its a GIRL!!!!! I want a girl so bad! Hopefully she doesnt grow any, ummmm parts between now and May! LOL
  23. I was wondering if you all would take my survery, and post your comments on being discrimanted against. I face it almsot everyday in department stores, applying for jobs, even in my school work. I thought this would be an interesting topic. Evidence of discrimination is found at virtually every stage of the employment cycle, including selection, placement, compensation, promotion, discipline and discharge, according to a research review by Mark Roehling, a professor in the Department of Management, Western Michigan University. In addition, the bias extends to assessments of overweight individuals in their various work-related roles both as subordinates and co-workers. Of his findings, Roehling said, "Overall, the evidence of consistent, significant discrimination against overweight employees is sobering." Roehling reviewed 29 research studies of employment discrimination that included both laboratory and field studies. He found that: Overweight persons were subject to discrimination in employment decisions based on body weight. Overweight persons were frequently stereotyped as emotionally impaired, socially handicapped and as possessing negative personality traits. Wages of mildly obese white women were 5.9 percent lower than standard weight counterparts; morbidly obese white women were 24.1 percent lower, according to two studies. In contrast to females, the wages of mildly obese white and black men were higher than their standard weight counterparts. Men only experienced wage penalties at the very highest weight levels. "Studies assessing the effect of both employee weight and other suspected bases for discrimination (sex, specific disabilities, etc.) provide evidence of the relative level of weight-based bias; they suggest that weight-related bias may be greater than that associated with other characteristics. For example, Pingitore et al's (1994) study manipulating applicant weight, applicant sex and job type, found that applicant weight explained 34.6% of the variance in hiring decisions. In contrast 10.6% of the variance was explained by the sex of the applicant. Brink (1988) examined the potential effect of applicant weight, age, sex and race on ratings of candidate acceptability in a laboratory setting. Overweight candidates were rated significantly lower, but none of the other manipulations has a significant effect. A final example is provided by Kennedy and Hormant's (1984) investigation of the effect of social stigmas on decisions regarding employee discharge. They found that participants displayed more negative attitudes toward overweight employees than ex-felons or ex-mental patients." Michigan is the only state that prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of weight. In studies conducted in settings unrelated to employment, Roehling found some evidence that overweight women were evaluated more negatively than overweight men. Although the findings were not consistent, Roehling stated, "Where an interaction is found, overweight women are evaluated more negatively than overweight men." He also found that overweight persons are denigrated by doctors, nurses, peers, small children and their parent(s). Wages and Benefits Several studies have found that women with obesity earned less than non-obese women. In a study by Rothblum and colleagues, of persons who were 50 percent or more above their ideal weight, 26 percent reported they were denied benefits such as health insurance because of their weight and 17 percent reported being pressured to resign or fired because of their weight. Legal Issues The Civil Rights Act of 1964, (Title VII, 42 U.S.C. §2000 et seq.) established basic federal law on employment discrimination. It does not identify weight as a protected characteristic, and as a result does not provide direct protection for obese individuals who have been discriminated against by their employer due to their weight. The differential application of weight standards, formal or informal, to members of protected classes may constitute disparate treatment discrimination. In Gerdom v. Continental Airlines Inc., 692 F2d. 602, 30 FEP 235 (9th Cir. 1982; en banc), the court determined that the airline's weight restriction program treated employees differently based on sex because it was designed to apply only to females, and "it was not merely slenderness, but slenderness of female employees which the employer considered critical." The airline argued that it had a competitive strategy featuring attractive flight attendants and that a slender female was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ). The court rejected this argument holding that customer preference unrelated to the ability to do the job cannot justify discriminatory policies. Disparate treatment may also be found if weight policies designed to apply to all groups are enforced at a significantly higher rate against a protected group. Union of Flight Attendants v. Pan American World Airways, Inc., 50 FEP 1698 (N.D. Cal 1987) An employer's use of formal or informal weight standards may involve illegal discrimination if, though neutral on its face, the rule has a significant disparate impact on a protected class. In other words, if a claimant established that the weight rule was having an adverse impact on African Americans, Title VII would require an employer to justify its weight rules by showing that it is job-related and consistent with business necessity. Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) The Rehabilitation Act and the ADA provide protection against employment discrimination. Under both acts, a person must establish that he or she is an individual with a disability within the meaning of the acts. This includes anyone who has a physical or mental disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities of the individual, a record of such impairment or who is regarded as having such impairment. Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) EEOC regulations define "major life activities" as "functions such as caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working. The regulations require that the 'working" limitation requires evidence of being significantly restricted in the ability to perform either a class of jobs or a broad range of jobs in various classes as compared to the average person having comparable training, skills and abilities. The inability to perform a specific job does not constitute a substantial limitation in the major life activity of working. The EEOC regulations implementing the ADA explicitly excludes height or weight within normal ranges and are not the result of a physiological disorder. According to the regulation, obesity will considered as a disability except in "rare circumstances." (29 C.F.R. §1630.2)
