I have had so many set backs since wls. first I fractured my wrist and arm. I still have to wear a splint and I did this last july. I also had to have the gallbladder removed. it is discouraging. but you don't want to make things worse. rest for now and heal. exercise the upper body for now. I wish you well and hope you heal quickly

Hi fit2 bme2014 I did the exact same thing at work I fell on some ice and I am on crutches, I met with my surgeon and they are still willing to do my surgery because I can still walk on crutches he did say if I'm still on crutches for the surgery I will have a walker instead if crutches at the hospital. I agree with terrydumont46 keep exercising your upper body until surgery and watch what you eat so you don't gain wright due to limited movement .

    Seattle

And good to know that there are some options of there. Still hoping to have surgery with my current surgeon, however, she's only doing surgery until the first week of April before leaving in the middle of a month for a fellowship. It's not looking good, but I'm doing everything I can.
  8. Saw my surgeon again today, I've lost 15# of the 20# the surgeon requested (I don't have an insurance mandated amount to lose). The CT scan that was done of my hernia actually shows a good liver, so she's not worried about that, however... Blood tests not great. My PPT is elevated. It could be from the aspirin I take or it could be that I clot too much. Need to retest and get a referral to hematology. The test also shows I have H. pylori and have to do some round of meds for...

  9. Came home from Bari support group @ the hospital really 'needing' to stuff the 'monster'... Help!!

  10. I LOVE MFP: It's actually helping, and I love the support of others I am getting...BUT...I just feel so compelled to put stuff in my mouth, to eat. I know in the past it's like a switch and it's gone off, the switch, and there is such relief, and peace there. I just wish I could make a turn off.

I have an addictive personality & food is my drug.Looking ahead @ the long haul, this will prolly be a lifetime battle. From what others who have been successful are saying tho is don't fuel the addiction with certain foods that make it that much harder on yourself such as carbs.Once I wake that ugly beast up with cookies sodas, etc.it's much harder to gain control again. So none of that!! Also, the successful folks have upped their protein intake with good protein supplements...

  11. Frack it! I wanna eat! My tummy is all grumbly. But I don't want to go over 600 cal today. I wonder if eating some tums will help… Sometimes it does.

I Decided I Want To Live At 47Yo

Totally relate to you 'epic' abilities! I'm working on mine and afraid it's going to be a lifelong struggle. I really can't afford to ignore the fact that my health is only deteriorating and it's my own fault. I have to do something. 15 more pounds and I can have surgery!
  14. Only need to lose about 15 more pounds before I can have surgery!!!

Thanks, you two!! I Inking going to go ahead and keep my calories around 500 even though the surgeon said 1200. Didn't seem to be losing much at 1200, which is been the case for last few years. Super emotional for some reason this afternoon and want to eat so bad that I could gnaw my hand off.

when I was a diabetic I had metformin prescribed for me. it made me very sick and I never lost a lb . now that I have lost 60 lbs I do not need medication. thank God.

      fit2Bme2014

@sharpie, while taking the medication, did you make any lifestyle changes such as reducing your carbohydrate intake? Still trying to figure all of this out.

      Dr-Patient

Early last yr, I took Metformin before I even thought about WLS. I dropped from 271.2 to ~ 256 just with that. It does help (or, usually does for) most people. but follow your Dr's orders.

    Bullies

I find it interesting that some people, here, have an issue with others with differing opinions. I'm sure they'd be the first to complain should somebody question their opinions. Yet they take it upon themselves to publicly...'shame' others. I've seen it over and over on these boards. Same bullies, almost, every time. Everybody's different. And everybody's going to different things. Everyone is hopefully learning and growing. My put bleach on a plant, when you should be fertilizing it.
  18. The bariatric clinic at my hospital has approved me for surgery!! All I need to do is lose 20 pounds!

No. I have Medicare. And actually going to be moving to the Ellensburg area, but Seattle is close and most family goes there for medical stuff.
  20. Got my stress test report back. Doesn't look like anything significant other then I am very, very, very out of shape. Not even sure where to start trying to get my endurance back.

Dee_1111, I hate even saying this, because it feels like a copout and a really bad excuse, but I have severe stenosis in my low back and walking any distance causes my legs, specifically the right one, to go numb. It helps when I can use a shopping card so I can lean on it and lean forward a bit. I'm thinking the pool might be a good thing to try. :) just feeling frustrated and whiney. Lol.

  21. So, I belong to a couple of Bypass and Sleeve groups on Facebook, and have recently been reading posts written by quite a few people who have had complications. Typically, I am grateful to hear about the complications because I want to go into this knowing everything I possibly can. However, one this weekend has sent me over the edge. The person had surgery (sleeve) a couple days ago and is still in hospital. She is regretting having the surgery and her post was absolutely heart wrenching. Since reading that post and possibly the accumulation of reading ALL the posts, all I want to do is eat. Thinking about it, I realized that it's some sort of subconscious sabotage; I have to lose 25 pounds before I can have surgery (I have lost five), and if I don't lose the rest, the consequence is not having surgery. I don't even know what to do or to think. I'm in severe pain because of stenosis and sciatica in my low back and legs and haven't been sleeping really well. While losing weight won't cure this, but it will help a lot, so I needed to lose weight, and for long-term success, it looks like having surgery is my best option. Honestly, I just want to curl up in a little ball right now. Help.

Thanks, everyone! There is just something very heart wrenching about the one post I read. Yes, the majority the posts I've read have been positive with minimal if any complications or side effects.

    psychology evaluation today!

Interesting to see how different everyone's Psych eval's were. I met with the psychologist and we talked for about an hour, then he set me in front of a computer to take a 400 question test. Before he left me to take the test, he told me that he was going to recommend to my team that I have surgery and told me he believed I was going to do well. And, he said something pretty profound, "We just don't want to give our clients a tool, that they might hurt themselves with." Anyway, good luck today!!!
  24. Venus Duplex report was negative for any PAD or clots!! Yay! Step closer!!

Regarding complications, talk to RJ's/Beginning. She was even in a coma. But.... Even through all of her complications, and they were many, she still says she'd have gotten sleeved. Complications can happen with any surgery and the sad fact of the matter is you will hear more from people with complications than those that do well sometimes in small groups. You know why? People get sleeved, do great and then stop updating. But people with complications seek support, which is exactly what we are here to give them. In small groups most people like to let others know when they are having a problem, while everyone that isn't just doesn't post every day "everything went textbook great today". The chance of a complication is very slim. But yes, they can happen. It's a chance I'm willing to take. I have severe spinal stenosis, schmorl's nodes and my left foot and leg goes numb with pain on a regular basis. I have high bp and sleep apnea. I KNOW I cannot live this way and am getting the sleeve Bc it is the tool that will help me change the way I fuel my body. By doing it right I'll lose weight. By losing weight I could be rid of bp meds and a CPAP as well as ease my constant pain. This is scary, and most people say that for a couple of weeks after surgery they suffer buyer's remorse, but in the end it's the best thing they've ever done for themselves April Thanks, April! Talk to RJ a couple times now. In regards to what happen to her, for whatever reason, it didn't seem to affect me as much as some of the resent posts have effected me. It could just be because I know that she has had a positive outcome...finally, and the recent posters are right in the middle of their awful experience. Thanks for taking time to try and sleeve my fears.
