Why Does Everyone Want To Be A "Food Addict?"
Dee_1111 replied to Warren L. Huberman PhD.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Well Warren PhD..here I am..a BONIFIED sugar addict! full responsibility & no guilt, just fact. scientific actually. Great Doc I had. MY PhD and I have worked very hard to come to the finale, the finish line if you will. it will never end, but I know where the line is now. I had (and still do) trigger foods, and triggered sweets. Long long story short..We, together discovered my triggers, which lead to other triggers, which lead to other triggers. Once established, she left it up to me, to either disregard the Pasta's,breads & chocolates (refined carbs) altogether, or learn discipline and moderation. I chose to not have sugar or process flour products in my life. That's discipline, not willpower. You are right about the 7 rules. . 6 out of 7 I do religiously, and I am also a case study in my area for a nation wide obesity study. My surgery was 3/1/2010-Gastric. I wanted my sugar/pasta 'addiction' under my control before I had my surgery. If having a 'politically correct' word for food addicts makes you PhD's feel self important for coining a new phrase for the Webster dictionary, by all means, give a prettier name. But I know what I am, I have live it for a very long time. Now I don't, but it will always be there with me, just like an alcoholic or a drug or sex addict. -
lol..try to drink like that now Allb..and either ye b praying to the porceline gods, or you will wake up like me, head pounding, death knocking at my door..with my husband at the foot of the bed shaking his head!!! I miss drinking, I really do ...Its taken to puttin' the slamm on me, instead of the nice slow & dignified creep, so I could excuse myself AND GO HOME!!!..(sigh) Good times

My status as of right now is..4 years out, doing what I'm supposed to be doing, not focusing on WLS anymore, just living & loving life. Vitamin regime a total non thinking habit at this point, vits are near the coffee pot, so its a no brainer. Don't see my Doc again till Aug 2014, I cant call anymore unless there's a complication...lolo..(that's another story..lol). But your right, we all should keep updated!

It just makes me so unbelievably angry and sad..years and years we all sit around with our friends & families, and talk about how fat & unhealthy we are, how we all need to lose weight, how we need to get to the gym or just start exercising...and when ONE of us seriously decides to do something about it..and ARE doing something about IT..the "Seven Deadly Sins" take over our friends & families? , and the "Ten commandments" go straight out the window..Funny, we humans, quite contradictory we are, and much hypocritical . I just want to cry for you, I really do!

Eating Right While Traveling Internationally
Dee_1111 replied to bloreorbust's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
OOOHH..B..good point..I don't know anyone who got sick traveling abroad, but..such a good point. I personally haven't been overseas since my surgery, but now that you bring it up, its a good piece of knowledge to have. Apparently I have some (more) research to do. Its a never ending learning curve this new life has to offer. In my previous fat life, this subject wouldn't have interested me in the slightest..Your awesome Dude!!!..parasites, yep can ruin a great vaca. -
Eating Right While Traveling Internationally
Dee_1111 replied to bloreorbust's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
sweeettt...gotta tell you this...even 4 years out, I stand in my kitchen chopping or just making food for the week, and I'm just a bitchin'..it always takes me 45 minutes to chop, sauté, bake, broil or boil, my weeks worth of food...arrrhhh..I now have a fricken TV in the kitchen for company..sad really...lololo..I hate all that chopping, gets tedious, it really does. Good lord, the women who HAD to cook from scratch ALL THE TIME!!!..alas, I do it, but certainly don't love IT!!!...LOLOL -

5 months out, nauseous for over a week
Dee_1111 replied to Babiblu1122's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
unfortunately hair loss..arrgghh..normal...lost a lot of mine, and I did EVERYTHING by the book and human guidance, still lost a lot of it. nausea. another unfortunate. I still feel it a lot of the time. I just had lunch, 4oz salmon & 10 steamed snowpeas..feeling sluggish. But I'd say if it persists like always call the Doc. -
Well..lol..as you get to know me (oh goodness...lol) I have a couple of subjects that make me jump on my HIGH HORSE.. I do think it is our (the patient) responsibility to gather as much info as humanly possible about the kind of surgery one has chosen to have....study the typical side affects, so when the un-typical happens, you will know something is amiss... then, LIVE IT, LOVE IT, LEARN IT,,Being well informed is the best preventative medicine there is. And in WLS's case, being over-educated seems to be the consensus of the day. Just in the little time I've been on this site, I didn't realize so much could go wrong!!??..but apparently it can and does..so read a lot of what people say on this site, it is soooo unbelievably informative...good luck in your journey.

Stay away from the scale during the healing process..IT IS NOT YOUR FRIEND..yet.. Exactly what Kristina said!! good girl Kristina..finally people are getting it!!!!!...How soon we forget all we've learned in the research process before, during and after the "before" or pre-op classes,.Doctors, Nutri, physc, life coaches, etc.. and handbook info about weight gain and loss in the first 6 months after surgery. curious? All the Pre-op info is out the window. its like people panic and forget all the information they've heard, learned and obtained about this surgery?...Im not scolding you tk..its just this question gets answered so many times we should just put a permanent heading thread just for this question.

4 yr post op-MOTIVATION NEEDED!
Dee_1111 replied to mistykay32's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sound advice. I'm just 2 months ahead of you Misty. I on the other hand am an extremist...I've taken to calling myself that lately. I wont apologize for my life/food choices cuz I work VERY hard at it. I get mad at myself, and tell myself to lighten up and have a cookie, or a cracker, or whatever..but I cant, I just cant. But doesn't mean it wont happen, it just hasn't yet. So I will take notes and follow your progress an see how it works for you. Cuz I never say never. I will learn from you on your journey back...Good Luck sweetie. -
I liked you from the very start Terry...lolol

Pouch problems any one?
Dee_1111 replied to MelindaBaltimore29's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Melinda..do you have a unbelievable stabbing pain when you eat anything? No, she couldn't move her bowels they were kinked..like a kink in a garden hose. At the kink, it ruptured so she had two surgeries at once..horrible, after surgery she stayed in the hospital for a week, and couldn't leave till she passed gas and had a bowel movement...how it was explained to us, is that when the intestine twist like that, its extremely painful when you even take a little bite of fruit. In her case, a piece of pineapple chunk. When they opened her up( a vertical stomach incision) her instestine sort of 'played dead'..possumed if you will..so we had to wait for them to wake up also before going home..arrrrhhh what a nightmare!!!..so I you have symtoms of extreme pain with no bowel movement, don't let them send you away, she didn't, and that goodness. I didn't want her to be a WLS statistic, if you know what I mean!!..this took place the week before Christmas. She's back to normal, and back to work..but hoooooh what a scare..we had no idea that could happen..THATS SOOOO NOT IN HAND BOOK!!!!!
