  1. Is anyone taking fish oil supplements? I have read good and bad things about adding this to our diet.

    Fish Oil Supplement

I too have heard not to mix this supplement with blood thinners including the 81mg aspirin. I am starting to think it would be better to include more real fish in my diet
  3. I have been asked numerous times: oh, wow! how much weight have you lost. I tell them because I am proud of my accomplishment. Then my husband was asked this question about me by an acquaintance. He promptly spit out the number. Then this buddy of his asks: well, what did she weigh when she started this? I luv my hubby, he responded: 90 lbs more than she did a year ago! His next stupid question: ok, what does she weigh now? Quick response: 90 lbs less than before. WTF! This coming from a man that borrowed my friends motorhome to lay down on the floor to get his pants done up!

    Need some experienced weight losers

Hello Flaxseed: number 1: scrap that health care program. It will be a min of 5 years before you see any type of surgery ( and you don't get to choose the surgery). I live in Canada as well, went to the Alberta Weight management program. After the 2 hour seminar it was very clear that they believe weight loss surgery will not work. They firmly believe that our weight problems are in our head and that we choose not to have self control. I'll bet these people have never been more than 5 lbs overweight a day in their life. I took matters into my own hands. I had the band installed by smart shape in Mississauga (good group of people, lots of support) at the end of Jan 2014. My friend went to Mexico and had the sleeve in March 2014. (my friend's family doctor told her to go for it in mexico, health care cannot be denied in Canada if you have an issue later on in life) We have both been successful, both of us are now down 90 lbs Family doctors in Alberta have very limited knowledge on WLS. Mine was skeptical, now he is just thrilled about my weight loss. both diets are the same for the band and the sleeve. small portions, Protein first etc Get the big book on the band or sleeve to help you along I am guessing that you are like the rest of us, been on every diet known to man, with limited or zero success. I believe once you get to a certain weight-no amount of yo-yo dieting will help. You will not be able to stick to it. WLS will not make you lose all the weight, but it will help you get the control you need and with a little determination on your part it will work! Good luck in your journey.
  5. I have only one huge regret....I wish I had jumped on the Band-Wagon 5 years earlier. I am down almost 90 lbs and couldn't be happier. Don't let the negative comments influence your decision. if you are ready for WLS and mentally prepared for the challenge...do it now!
  6. I think I just hit a second stall. My weight has moved up and down 4 lbs for the last 2 weeks. What happened, I was losing steadily, then boom, all stopped. How do you break the stall???

Has everyone out there lost hair post op?

I am 8 months post-op and I am shedding more than my cat! Does it ever stop?

Some unexpected NSVs have me LOLing in public. You?

went to see the family doctor last Friday. He was not available, so I had to see one of his associates. This guy is sharp, figured out my problem quickly. Then came the quiz: how tall are you, how much do you weigh? I knew where this was going. I started to chuckle. He is a bit of a smart ass, so I asked him at what stage do you want to know my weight. I informed him that last January 1st I was 85 lbs heavier than I am now. His jaw dropped, he said never mind the questions and left. I guess he couldn't be bothered to read my chart-he would have known I had WLS. LOL Best I have felt in years after being to the doctor.

I am so angry at myself

here is my 2 cents: If we all had good control on what we ate or how much we ate, why the hell would we need WLS! Throw out all the junk food out of your house-now. Eat high Protein meats and low carb veggies. Since you are pre-surgery, portion control is real tough. Don't be afraid to confront your surgeon. Tell them this is why I am here. If I could lose weight living on the bird barf diet for the rest of my life, I would not need you or your team. Also, if they try to bully you, ask them how much weight they lost? I bet the skinny 98 lb stick rolling her eyes at you has never lost more than 5 lbs max.

    Regrets?

It took me 2 1/2 weeks to start feeling better. Then I realized that my stomach was really empty. That didn't help matters. Give it some time. Remember, the surgeon was digging around on your insides while you took a nap!

LapBand-friendly fast food (don't judge me!)

Your local chinese food restaurant. Get a stir fry, then keep the left over veg and sauce, add your own protein and it is instant lunch for another day
  12. Does high heat and 85% humidity affect your band? I traveled to Indiana and now I have to watch what I eat. The hotter and more humid it gets, the tighter the band. ????

    Has this happened to you?

    Terry, great advise!

    Weight Gain from Prednisone

Relax, you only have a few more days on that awful drug. My sister-in-law has lupus and took prednisone for 12 months. That little lady of 4' 8" looked like the Michelan man. Every joint ached and she swelled up like a balloon. She has done this tour of duty twice to have two wonderful children. She slimmed right down after with little side effects. Hang in there.

    Extremely HAPPY

I am hoping for a lifelong honeymoon!!!!!
  16. poorly!! that is how I handle attention. I like to fly under the radar. no such luck since the surgery. I feel exactly like the same person I was before. Is there something wrong with me? I enjoy all the company of friends and family-same as when I was fatter. LOL

    Food planning

I am careful when I reheat meat. microwave can turn it to rubber. I will usually heat veg first, then cut up meat and give 10 sec just to soften. adding a sauce helps-like salsa or a low sodium fat free gravy.

    Food planning

I always plan my dinner. I cook extra and that becomes lunch for the next day, this way I cannot make a poor choice midday. lunch and dinner always consist of a lean Protein and a veggie (low carb of course). Breakfast is a free for all. one day it is an egg dish and the next may be yogurt or cottage cheese and fruit.

Unsuccess story: I have been so bad this summer...

Why are you eating around your band? I believe emotional eating (happy or sad) is what got us into this health mess we are in. The past is the past, we cannot change it. I too have had a rough summer weight wise. I had a stall for 30 days. I received some great advise from people on this site. I rode it out, kept to the plan. It appears my first stall has finally broken. Yeah! My point? We all stray at times, it's ok. Get up, dust yourself off and restart.

    Acne!

RJ is correct! Before my surgery my skin was breaking out all over. Face, arms, shoulders, legs you name it. Toxins it is. Our bodies are in a world of hurt. This will clear up, keep forging ahead. All will be well.

    SWLC paitents...

What were you all expecting from your surgery team? I understood going into this surgery that they would do their part (surgery, information, webinars, nutrition consult via phone), but it was up to ME to do my part. They gave us the rules in writing and verbally. The day of my surgery they kept drumming these rules into my brain. they know people only hear three words: surgery lose weight. Before surgery, and after surgery-same information repeated over and over. Did all of this seem to happen really fast? You bet it did. into surgery, wake up, drink water-still groggy. Go back to hotel and rest up. Flight home was the worst part of this whole experience (4 hours stuck in a chair). I am surviving and the surgery has been successful. I still have to give myself a refresher on the golden lap band rules every few weeks. It's easy to slip back into old comfortable habits. As for the medical team at Smart Shape....they cannot give medical advise over the phone, they cannot tell you to stray from the Canada food Guide, they cannot tell you to get additional fills. for all of you that a living a distance away from a clinic....you should have realized you would have to travel for fills. If you need additional consult time, tell them that when you book it. I get an email once a month from the nurses at smart shape. Please contact us and tell us how you are doing. They have a lot of patients to keep track of. It is up to all of us to tell them what WE need from them.

    Warning, Self Pity Party Ahead

Nothing fits!!! I gave up on jeans. It appears my new body shape reflects that of a sack of potatoes. I have resorted to those stretchy yoga pants and a loose top. I swore I would never wear those exercise pants because they should never be in extra large, but it is the only thing that fits right now. On a sadder note: I was looking for a nice pair of walking summer shorts. Then my husband try on a pair of these. Oh crap! now I am wearing his clothes-it is the only ones that fit right. It is a sad day when you resort to hubbies side of the closet for your new wardrobe.
  23. cutlass6521

    How close together?

my clinic also has a 30 day guideline. I was told it can take up to 2 weeks for the effect to kick in. I waited 6 weeks between fills and stalled.

    Weird look at restaurants

my favorite is when you ask for the healthy side to go with your meal and they look at you and go UGH!, We charge extra for thaaat! LOL Hell, if you want 2 orders of fries on your plate it is no problem (would you like them deluxe with cheese and other crap?)

What the Hee Haw is going on

I have a 10cc band I think there is around 6cc in it. I have had 5 fills since the surgery, only the 1st one was a .5 cc fill, all the rest have been .25 and lower. I have an appt next week for a fill. it will have been 6 weeks since the last one, I guess time goes by quickly. maybe I just waited too long between fills. I don't think I ever hit the green zone, or if I did, I wasn't in it for very long. thanks for all the advise
