I have some digital scales that are really acurate but the othe day I found my old scales and they made me a couple of pounds lighter so now I weigh on both scales, I really am a scaleaholic somebody please help me. Gaynor

I agree with Karen, I'm sure we all had doubts. I was banded 6 months ago and have lost 56 pounds. I have never looked back, this is the first time for years I have lost so much weight in so little time. I feel great, I feel normal, I also have loads of energy. I have only pbd once in that time and although it wasn't pleasant it was bearable and really if we do everything we are told ie chew thoroughly etc it should not happen at all. Having said that It has to be your decision so do carry on with your research, but I think you will hear more positives than negatives. Good luck Gaynor

Is the band all that you expected? Better or worse?
g curtis replied to rene2005's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too love my band and my only regret is not having it done sooner. I have lost 56 pounds in 5 months and am delighted. At times the weight loss has been very slow or non existant and then all of a sudden the weight starts shifting again. I live in England and when I moaned to my consultant about the lack of restriction I was told "Madam we do not band people so tightly here that they vomit if the over eat", generally speaking they are a bit on the consevative side here when it comes to fills, but as long as I'm losing I'm happy. No complaints Gaynor -
Kathy You always bring a smile to my face. More good advice. You all keep me going. thankyou thankyou thankyou Gaynor

Hi Kathy Thought I should respond to you're thread as you've always been very helpful If I've had any problems in the past. For me it has been increased physical activity, I walk every day twice a day for about 45 minutes (I look after dogs so I always have lots of company), I also have worked out my own little exercise plan that I do in the mornings. I have to say If I had not lost my weight I would not have had the energy to exercise, that for me is a really big plus. I do agree that we need to sort our heads out, I am finding that now I have lost 56 pounds all of a sudden people are starting to notice, I find it very hard to accept compliments and still feel as big as ever, does that change after a while?? One of the bad habbits I need to break is I still find myself snacking in the evening, not on anything too wicked but I still wish I did'nt do it.

I agree with all the above comments, although you are all a long way away form me I feel I know you and can turn to you with any problems, or doubts I have. Whatever I'm going through, I just know somebodys been there before me or somebody will know what to do. Thanks Guys Gaynor (UK)

Help, I think I just PB'd for the first time
g curtis replied to g curtis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think you're probably right about the absentmindedness. Oh well at least I know the band is working!!! Thanks Gaynpr -
I am nearly 6 months post op and I have just tried to eat steak and salad, a meal I have reguarly and after about 3 bites I had a lot of pain and then my mouth filled with Water as though I wanted to vomit and I brought up lots of slime. I am very careful when I eat and do chew thoroughly, but I did have a small drink of slightly carbonated water just before the meal (I would normally have tea or coffee) could this be the cause or could it be that I maybe absentmindedly didn't chew properly. It was not a pleasant experience and I think I'll give food a miss tonight!!!. I did have my 2nd fill 3 weeks ago, so I am wonering if the fill has just kicked in maybe. Oh I dont know, but any advice you all have will be verymuch appreciated. Ta Gaynor

Help, I think I just PB'd for the first time
g curtis replied to g curtis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Kathy I did'nt bring up what got stuck and I think I can still feel it there slightly but there is no sliming and no pain so I'm hoping all will be ok now. I've just had a few sips of Water and that was fine. Thanks for the tips, its put my mind at rest. It probably only lasted about 25 minutes, if it lasted any longer I dont know what I'd do!!! I certainly will be careful from now on. Promise Gaynor -
Why cant we have low cal carbonated drinks occasionally ? I know some people can no longer manage gassy drinks, but I find if I sip them I have no problem. I am going on holiday soon and would like to know that I can have the occasional fizzy drink with a clear concience, or is there a medical reason why they should be avoided. Gaynor

Hi there I'm a bit concerned as since having my 2nd fill (a week ago) I am getting some discomfort when I eat and saliva in my mouth. I did ask the guy for more restriction as after my first fill I felt very little so he told me he took 6cc out and put 8 in. Possibly this is my band working properly for me for the first time and it has come as a bit of a shock. I was on fluids for three days and then on to sloppy food but am not able to eat comfortably what I had after 1st fill (I just tried half a tuna sandwich and could only manage about two thirds of it) Is this normal and if it is will it gradually ease off, or could the band be too tight, I'm reluctant to complain as this is the first time I have felt real restriction. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks Gaynor

Are there any bandsters out there that have had there band for a few years ? How are you coping, have you gained any weight that you lost and if so how did you deal with it ? I am 21 weeks post op and am so far thrilled with the results, but am wondering if this really is the answer to my prayers or if I may face problems later on. thanks Gaynor (uk)

Hi Babs well done on giving up smoking, it was well worth the 10 pound gain. I too have given up and know how difficult it is. keep on keeping on Gaynor -
Good luck Laura I'm sure you'll be just fine. Gaynor

You are probably right Leatha, but the vast majority of people over here know a little about Gastric Bypass Surgery but not a lot about the band.

Thanks guys, thats just what I wanted to hear. Gaynor -
Hello Chris I live in the UK and had to do a lot of research myself as my own doctor was not at all familiar with the procedure, I suppose obesity surgery is still pretty rare over here. Anyhow after a years careful research I decided to go for it on Jan 29th this year. I have lost now 51 pounds and am absolutely delighted with the results. Yes you do have to work with the band to a certain degree, but my god it makes it a hell of a lot easier to lose weight. Keep looking at all the info on this wonderful site Good luck Gaynor

Sorry I meant the saline Gaynor
-
Its a good point though, I suppose as long as the band is'nt leaking it doesn't matter how grotty it is!! Gaynor
-
Karen sorry to hear you're having a rough time, I do hope things will improve for both you and you're husband. Will be thinking of you both Gaynor (UK) l

I've been told (I live in the UK) that I should not need any more fills, and nobody has mentioned anything about coming back for checkups, will the saline be ok for the rest of my days?? Gaynor

Hi Christina I too am sitting here with tears streaming down my face, I know exactly how you feel, but from what you have told us you definately made the right decision. As sombody else mentioned maybe in the future there is another baby out there looking for love, I know its too soon at the moment but in time. You can see in the photo just how close you were, Gunnar was a really handsome lad. God bless you and God bless Gunnar. Gaynor
