After only two weeks (one week post op) I'm back at a weight where I can get back into my kayak! By the time the weather (water) warms up, i will be back paddling in the alligator infested waters again. A return to the excitement of my little boat. In the mean time, I am trying to walk several times a day. Monday I go back to work. Lots more movement.

January's 2014 Bandsters Welcome!

You are allowed grits? You are so lucky. I am also 5 days post surgery and on a clear liquid diet until Monday. Next week I'm able to do whole liquids. I'm so excited for yogurt and shakes that will give me more energy. -
Hung a small TV in my room with the wall mount. That about wiped me out! On Monday I get to start using full liquids, I hope that gives me more energy. This clear liquid stage of the diet really sucks.

Since being banded on Monday, I haven't been as active as before I'm still kind of sore. But I have been up and about and moving around quite a bit inside the house. It feels like I did 1 billion situps, at least when the medicine is worn off. Next week I will start back at the gym, with light workouts on the treadmill.

January's 2014 Bandsters Welcome!
als41 replied to msirish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I'm two days post operation and feel a little sore but getting better every day. The doctor did two surgeries on me; the band and then he pleaded my stomach or placated it. He said that it would help to keep me from feeling hungry. So far he was right, I'm able to eat broth and Italian Ice and those types of things but I do get full quickly. The gas pains suck for the most part, but I have been getting a little bit better on that front. Yesterday, after coming home from the hospital, I didn't rest as much as I should have. That wiped me out! Today I'm going to take it much easier. Overall, I'm just happy to be on the side of the surgery date, and I'm looking forward to starting my new life. -
Working out and starting my liquid diet helped. I went in weighing 18 pounds less than a week ago. Today was a busy day, I was banded this morning at 8:15, and now I'm in a recovery home for the night. I took several walks around the place and drank lots of Water. Now back to my regularly scheduled visit to La La Land. I go home in the morning.

I'm now a part of the banded club. I started the day learning my liquid diet paid off. 18 pounds. In one week. Now to heal. I'm not a fan of the gas pains, but these will pass. I'm staying in the nursing home tonight (sleep apnea), but I've walked several laps around the hall. Good times. I'm on my second bottle of water and had a little broth and jello. -

Good luck it you as well. I have my surgery tomorrow at 8:30. So I'll be right there with you. -
Yesterday I walked for almost 5 hours straight (I bought my father a tour of the Magic Kingdom for Christmas and yesterday was the day). Being on a liquid diet for the last few days and walking for that amount of time wiped me out. I am so ready to be banded tomorrow. My question is... After I'm banded, how long will it take me to get back to, and surpass, the level of cardio workout I am currently able to do? At this point in time, I go to the gym 4 to 6 times a week and do some form of a cardio workout. On my distance days, once or twice a week, I am up to 4.9 miles in 33 minutes on the elliptical.

Being a 41 year old man, I refuse to wear a house dress or yoga pants (lol). I'm just going to wear my sweat pants and an older t-shirt to the event tomorrow. You always do what right for you. -

I got the call yesterday, I'm first on the list for surgery at my location. I have to be there at 7:15 Monday morning . My doctor is going to do two procedures on me. He is banding me and placating my stomach. He says doing both surgeries is a newer thing, but should give me a little better results. Now my nerves are really setting in. But I'm still excited to start my new life. -
sleep won the battle this morning for me. I am taking the puppies for a walk tonight. Tomorrow I will return to my regularly scheduled morning gym time. Saturday, I'm walking at Disney all morning! Sunday, I'm not sure what I'll do for my exercise. Monday, very little exercise; on Monday, I am being banded so I can be an official club member.

30 minutes on the arc trainer for me this morning.

I forced myself to wake up at 4:30 AM today, and was at the gym by 5:15 I was on the elliptical for 33 minutes and ran 4 1/2 miles. I felt lots of energy all day long, but now I'm starting to tire out.

One week from now I will be in recovery in the hospital! I'm getting excited! I am so ready to start my new life. -
I will be banded next week, Monday the 27th. But I thought I would get a jump on the exercise, today I was at Disney World. I walked around both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot for several hours. Tomorrow, it is back to my regular workweek. Wake up and go to the gym by 5 AM, then had to work. I'm looking to go for 40 minutes on the elliptical tomorrow. I'm hoping that after I am banded it won't take too long to get back to the gym. I'm also looking forward to taking my puppy dogs on walks around the lake more often.

I'm being banded at the end of the month, and was looking for others in the area doing the same thing. My surgery date is January 27, and I'm excited and nervous about the whole new life ahead of me. Does anyone have any tips out there for me?

My doctor isn't making start a liquid diet until the 24th, but I started weening myself into a liquid diet. I'm at one meal a day liquids now.

Angielika, this is a decision only you can make. Take the time to look at what you have done in the past and see what your results were and where things went wrong. Are there things you could do to improve past strategies? Or is the band your best solution to solve your issues? Take the time to weigh your options. For me, I feel the band (which I'm scheduled for the 27th) is my best option. I could loose the weight in a conventional manner, but it would take the better part of 3 or 4 years to do so (based on past attempts). I am ready to start my new life. Sure I'm afraid and nervous of all the unknowns and what ifs. But this is a way for me to re-learn how to eat. Best of luck, this is a hard decision. Alvey -
