    Pep talk, please!

I'm only a sleever too. Day three I cried all day. It was emotionally difficult for a few weeks but the first couple days is not fun. It's a big surgery. Your body is in shock. Comfort foods are out. It's gonna suck. So you have done this before. So you have an idea of how soon you could feel great. Just keep thinking its coming soon its worth it. This is the hard part. Soon you will be at the free part. I call it free. Six months out and so much is behind me. I imagine I'm walking or running forward and I'm free. I just smile. You got this.

Husband says No to me having surgery!

The doctor talk can be intense. The surgeon has to make sure your ready for the diet restrictions needed after to make sure your safe. That you understand the risk. It can be a scary conversation. My husband was freaked out but just about the surgery. My surgeons success rate is pretty high. It personal too. You know whether it will be successful for you. I needed the restriction and knew I could handle it. My daughter freaked out the most. She didn't want me to do it. Right before surgery she admitted she was worried I would be skinny and she wouldn't. She came around. After surgery she was my biggest supporter and critic. Six months later everything's good. The success rate for me is my choice. If I eat wrong it won't work. But it's not like gambling it's a choice everyday that I control with the help of my sleeve.

    HAIR!

I'm six months out and been losing hair for a few months. It was weird at first how much would come out just from running my fingers through it. My hair is thick so no bald spots yet. I did cut it short. I'm over freaking out about it. Losing weight has been so great it's just part of the process. Fat cells hold estrogen so when your losing weight all those hormones are being released. I use nioxin shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner is great on my curly hair. Most of my family and friends have long hair so I was disappointed I couldn't have that but most of them are on some crazy diets so I'm free from that. Last night I didn't rinse the tub and my son noticed the left over hair. He asked me if it was all going to fall out and was genuinely concerned. I told him ya it could its just part of the surgery but it will grow back. The hair I still have is healthier and growing faster than it did before so that's a good sign.

    Northern California Sleevers?

I had my surgery at Methodist hospital in sac. It was great. It was in January. I can answer questions if you have any. Things have really settled with my sleeve. I remember when I had a lot of questions:)

Hungry but unable to eat :(

It will change. I'm six months out. I like food mixed together so the first two months was hard. Really hard. Mentally mostly. I was happy to be free of filling up. But had the blas for weeks. My body was tired and comfort food is out. Getting a vitamin b shot helped. The part of the process where we change our eating habits is not easy. This is the part that is work. That's what makes WLS not an easy way out. When people tell me that I look good I tell them it has been hard work. It will get better when you get a few months out. Hang in there.

    Food comercials!

My favorite food commercials are the KFC ones. Not one actor is obese. The young girls are so exited about lunch. It could be the opening scene in a bad movie. None of the food commercials show real people eating their food. No malnourished children or obese children. No one with an eating disorder. It's disappointing.
  7. I took my daughter shopping a few days ago. She wanted in and out burger after. I took her and got a cheesburger and fries. I had three bites of the burger and took the rest home to my husband. It was good. I forgot how good they were. Once a month I crave Chinese food. Now it can't be a sweet dish. I choose shrimp in a light sauce. It's all satisfying I just don't need a lot. It's so great. I love the sleeve.

    wanting surgery

Ya Medi-cal is covering bariatric surgery right now. I would look up bariatric surgeons in your area that are centers of excellence. Call them and ask if they take Medicaid. Your BMI and comorbidities should qualify you.

    Geting closer

It's hard waiting for surgery. Almost there. I told everyone who knows me knows me. Not Facebook or people who don't know me know me. I am 5'7 and was 240 at the heaviest before surgery. My coworkers were supportive but they are like my family away from my family. I don't mind if people know. But generally people imagine obesity to be over 300 pounds. I weighed 189 yesterday. Getting the 45 pounds off has been the best thing. Liberating. I have less back pain. I sleep better. No more high blood pressure medication. My neck feels great. I FEEL better. With people that know me I could explain what obesity was costing me. They understood. When I felt people were really listening I could explain how surgery prevents obesity related disease. It's all good your almost there!

    I NEED EFFIN COFFEE!

I didn't drink coffee again after the pre-op diet. And during that I drank tazo English breakfast. I caved and had a nonfat latte three days post op. I switched to an espresso machine. I make sure the roast is not acidic. I told the nutritionist that I have 2oz of espresso with milk and she said no good. It could hinder weight loss. It isn't good for a healing stomach. But I worked for a coffee roaster for seven years in my twenties. It's been very hard to give up. I would just advise to watch the acidity in the coffee you choose. Even decaf could have high acid depending on the roast. I use truvia in it. Sugar is no good. It makes me feel like crap. I'm glad to see your doing well.

    Not losing :(

I felt better at the three month mark. I lost slow. But it really wasn't that slow. I wouldn't even watch the scale for acouple weeks. Surgery is a shock to the body and it needs to heal. Everyone reacts differently. Unsweetened almond milk has protein and some fiber. Syntrax and isopure have unflavored protein. I used fat free milk the first couple of weeks and now I use water with the powder. It will get better. I got a vitamin b shot at my primary doctors office to feel a bit better at first. And those you can get once a month. I hope you feel better.

    horizon nj health (Medicaid)

I'm using dr. Eslami. He's located in Sacramento Ca. On his website is the list of requirements for surgery. I think it's slimlifesolutions.com.
  13. I'm using the nioxin. I really like it.

    horizon nj health (Medicaid)

I have Medi-cal and it covers bariatric surgery right now. I had six months of weighing in with my doctor and all the other tests.
  15. This is a no brainier......tell this person see ya. The list written to you is bogus. Bariatric surgery isn't cosmetic. I have 5 incision scars, their beautiful. And what if it was? What if you wanted to have your nose worked on? A friend would support your decision. Safety can be an argument but choose your team wisely. A psych evaluation can help a person make sure they are choosing surgery with an understanding that it is not brain surgery or self esteem surgery. The one that did mine had experience in working with people with eating disorders. I didn't hate my body before or after. I was extremely uncomfortable. Not full of hate. Wow is all I can say to number 4,6,and 7. It was number 3 that was interesting. A person cannot be healthy at any size. Comorbidities from obesity are deadly. I chose this tool because I wanted to have a better QUALITY of life. Better sleep, a stronger body, better sleep. It wasn't about being thin vs being fat. This forum is full of people trying to achieve healthier lifestyles. It is exiting to lose weight. There is a lot of hard work here in this forum. Welcome!
  16. I did the crying day 3. It's part of the process. Now it's a different frustration because I can eat a little but shouldn't eat any. Still I'm making the right food choices 99 percent of the time. It just sucks that weakness is still there after I found this amazing tool. And lately I have wondered if I should have gotten the bypass surgery instead. Would it have been better to have had a more restrictive surgery? Then I remember that I am strong and I want to make the better choices myself and not have my restriction do all the work. Anyway it's nice to vent. I'm relieved when people open up on this site and are honest about a difficult struggle. One day at a time.

My husband said I am lazy

I'm three months out and just getting my energy back. I was lazy after. But just healing from surgery. 3 ounces is perfect. He sounds confused about what he wants. He thinks you should exercise and watch what you eat and lose more weight but is missing a buffet partner? I would be so happy at the buffet to only eat a little. Yeah. And 35 pounds since preop is great. I'm at 35 pounds lost at three months. People tell me I look great and if I mention I'm a slow loser their like...really? He just doesn't get it. For me it's a fantasy come true to only need a small amount of food. He'll get it eventually. Your confidence in yourself is all that really matters. If your confident your eating what your body needs then hopefully he can trust that. It's still really soon after surgery. My daughter was worried about what I was eating the first couple of weeks. I kept telling her I was following my NUTS plan page by page. She could read it if she wanted to. Now she's more relaxed about it. She trusts me more that I know what to eat and how much. It will get better as you heal.
  18. I gained after just from all the fluids. And I'm a slow loser. But I'm not worried. Every day I wake up and still feel free from food. I have lots of control. It probably is good that it takes time. This isn't the biggest loser. It's so true what the veterans say about measuring yourself. You could be shrinking. It's hard at first because not a lot of protein and vegetables agree with the healing sleeve. It gets better. I wrote on my surgeons questionare at the six week check in that I may have not lost a lot of weight but I feel great. I'm really happy with this surgery. Feeling great is priceless!

    Slime?

I had that a few times in the beginning when I ate something and my sleeve said no or if I ate too much. It hasn't happened since.

    becoming increasingly frustrated

I have been a slow loser too. I thought about the numbers on the scale being low but in my closet things are great. I was 220 on surgery date 1/22 and today am 202. I lost fifteen pounds in the pre-op diet. I am happy. When I saw my surgeon a few weeks ago he was clearly disappointed in the low number and asked me if I eat sugar. I was like no. It bothered me some. But I noticed that if I stress out about it I could fall into old habits when I'm feeling defeated. I feel good now and I'm happy with the sleeve. He can't change that. He's a great surgeon. I know he'll be there if I need any medical help in the future. Every day I wake up and feel free. Free from a bad relationship with food. A coworker I haven't seen in a while said I looked 20 years younger the other day. I'll take it. It's been a lot of work.

    anyone experincing this

Yep I'm three months out and still no eggs. I thought scrambled eggs at first but it didn't feel good. Now I just eat the boiled egg white for quick protein.

    energy drinks

A vitamin b shot might help. I get them from my primary once a month. And I do take a b supplement every day.

    Very upset!

Me too. I lost 15 on pre-op diet. I was 220 on surgery date 1/22/14. I'm 206 now. I was happy. Inches have definitely come off. But at my surgeons office I could tell he was surprised that I didn't lose a lot. He asked me if I ate sugar. Um no everything is sugar free. He said to join a gym and get a trainer. It discouraged me in my heart. Not the gym part just the reality of the numbers. I feel great though and am happy with the sleeve. I'm just not going to be his biggest loser. I stay between 800 or 1000 calories a day. Add protein to my water.
