Post op soups and protein
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thank you RnJsNana. I haven't tried Edy's. Unfortunately I don't like cottage cheese or rice pudding but I could try Applesauce. I don't know what you mean by custard? -
Post op soups and protein

Hello all. Anyone within the 2 week post op or anyone remember what you ate. I'm getting bored with jello, broth, and protein shakes. Is there anything else that can be eaten during his stage? -
Hello. I had my surgery on Tuesday. When they weighed me after surgery in the hospital I gained 5 pounds. I chalked it up to bloating and tried not to let it get to me. I weighed myself today and I still weigh the same amount. 5 lbs more than the morning of my surgery. Is that normal 5 days out??? Please be honest with me.

OMG how awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to you on your first milestone of many!!!!! -
Hello. I am 5 days post - op. I was surprised to see Tomato Soup as one of the food options. Does anyone know what other types of soup would be considered whatever is acceptable for post op. I was under the impression clear liquids would be broth only. If tomato soup made with lactaid milk is ok I'm wondering what else is. Also can protein powder be put in the soup? I'm currently only getting approx 300 calories a day and only 30 protein so I'm trying to find ways to add it. I put it in sugar free pudding and it was fine. Last question is. I was using Muscle Milk powder but I'm almost out of it. What is everyone's favorite or best choice for protein. Thank you

Thank you RnJsNana and Indigo. What a relief to have soup!!! I need to remember to get low salt and or sugar. -
Fergie in my paperwork from my docs I was surprised to see tomato soup on there. I thought it was clears also. They listed tomato soup with low fat milk. I used tomato soup with Lactaid fat free milk. They said milk adds Protein. So I made soup and you can store the rest for later. Then today I am trying tomato basil soup with the milk. It's going down good so far. They also listed an egg drop soup. I haven't tried that yet. Everywhere it says no cream soups. I'm not sure why as I would think tomato soup is creamy. There sure is a lot to learn.

Thank you for your responses. I was going to try Tomato Basil soup until I forgot to check the sugars. How many sugars is acceptable in something.

Thank you lee, fergie and dee. It is a mind trip. I certainly don't need to make matters worse. I usually focused more on how my clothes fit anyway. Thanks for your fab feedback!!!!!! What a wonderful place for the good, the bad and everything in between. Whether it's a good day or a tough one it's nice to have a place to talk it out.

Thank you for your responses. I guess I had hoped to hear others had gained. Not to wish ill will on anyone but hoping it was normal. I am a little nervous about failing. I had the band in '07 and people always said didn't you have weight loss surgery? So many comments. It took me 7 years to lose 50 lbs and most of that weight came off in the last year. I was saving all my calories for night time in the hopes I could control myself by putting off food. The band being tight in the morning and day just helped me in my habit as I couldn't eat anyway until nighttime. It was only until I added a protein shake in the am that I started losing weight. I had already started my quest for bypass surgery at this time. I fear now I will not lose much as my portion sizes have already been reduced drastically over the years. I won't obsess or over focus on this too much but I'd be lying if I didn't admit it was there lingering in the back of my mind. I haven't told many people at all about my surgery because I live in a small town and don't need gawkers, watchers, and comments. I know someone who had surgery and the comments were appalling. She looks gross, she's too thin on and on. So sad. Thanks for reading.

I totally relate. I had the same fears and still do. I had the surgery Tuesday. They have come so far that I feel it's much safer than in years past. I'm sure my skin will be pathetic. Oh the horror but I will have to deal with all that when it comes. I also fear my hubby won't like the new me or I'll change somehow. All normal fears if you ask me. You can do this!!!! All these fears are normal. Good for you for sharing your feelings. We will all be here as we all journey through this. You got this momma!!!!!! And you'll be fabulous for it. -
Most humiliating day ever! 22 days post op..

My heart hurt too when I read this. I'm so sorry. I had an idea to maybe buy fabric softener sheets and stick one in your pocket. Also buy some type of sugar free breath mints and pop one in your mouth when talking to someone or when you know you will be. I too use muscle milk and I can tell my breath is disgusting!!!!!! Hang in there. That was a tough situation good for you to try to not let it take you down. -

Kenny I was getting worried about you. So glad to read your post. I'm sorry to hear your surgery was long. I too had a heck of a time with pain meds. I'm not going to lie day 1 and 2 were tough. It's been getting better since though. I did walk at the hospital even though I was dizzy and naucious. I know you had more work done. Take care of yourself and heal obviously it will take a while longer.
