I feel like I might be missing something. There hasn't been anything easy about this. I'm not being cheeky. I talked to a friend before having the surgery and she said it was the easiest thing she ever did. She is 3 years out and is a size 4. Since my surgery, I have no restriction. I go to the gym everyday, I eat next to nothing, become lactose intolerant, and fight for every last pound to come off despite my efforts. In fact I gained weight this last week. How it's possible is beyond me. I've told very few people about my decision to undergo the knife. I live in a small town and I really don't think it's anyone's business. Unfortunately nosey family and a few loose lips who feel entitled to know may have ruined my privacy. I wish people would back off and mind their own damn business! So far the only benefit I've found from the surgery is not feeling hunger. Everything else has been my own willpower to eat trace amounts of food, work out, etc. I realize people are hurt when they find out because they think they should be in the know. It is amazing to me all the comments like, see you don't need WLS to lose weight. Etc, etc. sorry this subject just sets me off!

Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!
Meintraining replied to Eroper6's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Bummer! I gained 3.5 pounds. I have a protein shake in the a.m. An egg in the afternoon, and for dinner I have a piece of chicken, steak, or hamburg. I'm lactose intolerant so it's hard to find safe foods to eat. I'm working out everyday. I'm confused as to why I'm gaining. -
I got my band done in FL. Surgeon was based out of Zephyrhills. I'm sure it's the same place.

I weighed myself today. I try not to do it too often. I've lost 30 lbs. I know it's slow compared to most but I am thrilled!!! Hope everyone else is doing well. -

Hello my fellow Jan. losers :-) Can I ask how everyone is feeling. More energized? Less energized? I'm exhausted come nightfall. Food has been challenging as I'm Lactose intolerant but I'm trudging along. This weekend I was at a family party and I got lots of comments on my weight loss. I've been wearing a huge sweatshirt all winter and I was actually in form fitting clothes. Hope everyone is doing well. -
Lactose Intolerance or something else?
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Karl thank you so much for responding. I called the company that makes Nectar and supposedly even though it lists milk as an ingredient they say it's lactose free also. Where can I find Bodyfortress Whey Protein Isolate? What other foods are you eating besides meat? I do take sublingual b-12 but I'm wondering if I should take it twice a day instead of once. This exhaustion thing is really bothering me. Thanks again for your help. -
I am in need of some help. Since my surgery in Jan. I haven't felt good. I feel like my quality of life has gone down instead of up. I am exhausted all the time. I don't have more energy I have less. I have some horrible bowel issue since the surgery that may be attributed to lactose intolerance. I have no idea what is safe to eat and what is not. I'm not much of a cook so I am lost. For example I had a busy day today. I had a protein drink in the am after the gym. It's water and one scoop of lemon Tea Nectar. Then I had another one because I was hungry and I no longer have foods to grab anymore like yogurt or a cheese stick. My protein bars have milk in them and I can only eat so many eggs and chicken. I need a small snack to keep me going and keep my metabolism going. At the store the lactose free products are pretzels, ice cream, and chip type stuff. All not great choices. I've called the nutritionist and my surgeons nurse who has also left messages for the dietician but she just doesn't call me back. I'm usually close to tears at night because I know I need to eat but I'm just so lost. I think a great deal of my frustration has to do with the dietician not getting back to me. I know I sound like a Debbie Downer but I've just been having a rough couple of days.

Article- 5 Things I miss about weighing more than 300 pounds.

I get what she's saying too. Obviously she enjoys being thin more because she is still thin. She's just being snarky about her experience with weight. -
So sorry to hear your having so much trouble. May I ask what the symptoms are for starvation ketosis. I've never heard of it. I've felt so sick since the surgery. I have no energy. It's awful. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Awesome attitude!!!!! Good,for you.

Oh no. Is that ongoing or does the good bacteria come back.

Jennifer congrats on your success. So sorry to hear you lost your mom. What is C-diff?

You look amazing. I'm sure that is a common fear. I'm just a couple months post op and I'm already fearing weight gain. Maybe a before and after photo on the fridge might help. I'm not sure. Welcome.

I used to go to bed at 1 or 2 am. Not anymore. I fall asleep watching my shows at night. I never used to do that. -

Doer, Invaluable information! Thank you sooooooo much for sharing. Those are my exact questions. I will tell you I am freezing and exhausted all the time. I go to the gym everyday but boy am I wiped out come night time. Unfortunately I've now added lactose intolerance to my repertoire. All my safe foods like yogurt and LF cheese sticks are no longer safe. Just about everything has milk in it. Congrats on your weight loss. I have finally accepted my weight loss would be slower and I'm ok with it as long as I continue to lose a little. This hasn't been an easy road. I have no idea who ever said it was, was crazy! Thank you again so much for sharing. -

I'm interested to hear what your doc says. We are so much alike in our journey. Hang in there and keep us posted. -
LynRN, It amazes me how truly ignorant the medical field is about weight. I always hated going to the doctor. They always jumped to conclusions based on weight. It is sad to hear what is going on in medical classes. We are so sensitive as a society to so many issues and disabilities yet weight is certainly not one of them. I'm sorry you have to be subjected to that. I personally think your going to be the BEST NP because you won't be ignorant!!!!!! Way to go on changing your future!!!!!

Doer, boy was I happy to read your post!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing. It's nice to know I'm not alone. My doc is super nice but he doesn't tell me little things like that. With the bypass I almost feel like it's all willpower because there is little restriction. I never read that anywhere. I was nervous like the surgery didn't take or something. I mean the extreme weight loss is from food restriction and following the diet stages. I guess how the bypass helps is with not having hunger. Still learning and getting to know my new tool. Thanks for sharing. -

Doer so glad you found us too! Sorry to hear of your trouble with the band. I had no trouble with mine except minimal weight loss but my hubby nearly lost his life from it or from the surgeons lack of care. His port and band were infected and eroded causing a hole where it was placed. Fortunately his organs grew up around the hole and wrapped themselves around it preventing sepsis. He was so sick. Glad to hear your doing well :-). Welcome! -

Hello Heidi, Thanks for responding. It's always nice to share experiences. This whole journey has been interesting. I know what you mean about carbs. It was a long 6 weeks post op! It's weird once switching to full foods and trying things out. I wish I knew what amount was normal. -
Wow, you are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing that.

Congrats to you! You look awesome!
