Tummy tuck questions about scar
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thank you all so much for your help. You look amazing. I really want to be able to wear a bikini. The scar down the middle is stressing me out. I find its hard to get the surgeon who has a vested interest financially to be subjective. I wish there was a place to see pics and compare if the muscles are truly necessary or if it's just an up charge for the doc. Also I want to know if the t is really necessary. I've asked him this but of course he feels it would be best. It's very expensive. It may be best but what if I'd rather not have that scar. I'll just have to make another appointment. I have one with the nurse but they said the only way I can see pics is to make an appointment with him. I thought that was weird -

Hello all! Well it's been a year for most of us in the Jan. 2014 thread. How's everyone doing? My journey has been good but all of a sudden something has changed and I have my appetite back with a vengeance. On the day of surgery 1-28-14 I was 243. I am now 150 last time I weighted but judging my appetite I'm not so sure. It's been a fight for me every step of the way. I work out everyday for approx 2 hours 5-7 days a week. I run approx 100 plus miles a month and lift weights. I've fought for every pound. I'm not going to lie I've been frustrated watching people who don't exercise drop weight faster and easier than me but it's something I've always struggled with. Has anyone that is now a year out noticed their appetite returning? If so, how are you dealing with it? I look forward to hearing from everyone -
What a wonderful response. I think those of us who have lived this life are the best people sometimes because we can all relate.

Wow, you really are looking fantastic! Love the bow! So happy for you. -
I had no idea about the no drinking rule other than a mention that it's not good to drink right after eating because it could push the food causing dumping. No wonder my portions don't seem small it must be all the water I'm drinking. I'm glad I read this thread. For some people it is a big adjustment not to drink during meals. I can understand needing to vent about being frustrated. It sounds like your doc doesn't take the typical route most WL surgeons do.

Help i feel like im starving to death....
Meintraining replied to tigerlily14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stage you are currently in is hard! Most of us have all felt those same feelings. I promise you though it will all be a distant memory once you've had the surgery and your through with the liquid phase and your about 3 months out. Life goes back to a new normal and you will be so happy you took this journey. -
cravings/junk food
Meintraining replied to dkelle11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to be honest. My craving for chips has never ended. Chips are my fav. Thing. Every once In a while at a party or something I will have a couple. They taste good to me. They taste the same. I don't have any taste changes post surgery. I wish I was one of those peeps that no longer likes bad food or their taste buds have changed. -
Awesome! good for you!!!!! It is amazing to me how much value is placed on appearance. All the attaboys etc. because of what one weighs. It's a weird world. One of the fun things for me is when I can actually shop in the normal clothes section or when I can squeeze by a group of people in a congested area. I used to have anxiety when I'd have to navigate through a crowded room full of people, chairs, tables, etc. there are so many little things like that as you go along. Enjoy all your victories!!!!

Is everyone eating salads? If so what dressing do you use? -
That's great to hear! Good for you. I don't have advice but was just happy for you. :-)

It is such good advice to not compare oneself to others. It is really hard though. I need to keep seeing it to remind myself. When I just think of myself and my own journey I am pleased. When I compare myself to others that had the surgery around the same time I start to get bummed as to why I've not lost as much as them. That's a slippery slope for me because I start to feel betrayed by my body. I have to work extra hard, exercise more extreme but that's just the way it goes. It's the only way. I now realize this surgery was the only way I could have gotten to the weight I am now. All these same things I did before the surgery was not getting me there. For whatever reason that scale is going downward instead of up for the first time in my life and I am so happy about it!

I often wonder what typical weight loss should be but I'm learning everyone is so different. My surgery was Jan. 28th. I've lost 48 lbs in 4 months. I had a conversion from the band to bypass so weight loss for some reason with a conversion is slower. I workout everyday and if I wasn't I probably would not have lost what I have. I started at 243 and now weight 195. I am happy though to finally see a 1 when stepping on the scale. I haven't been under the 200's in years!

Band to Bypass discussion
Meintraining replied to Meintraining's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you, I will try it -
Hello my fellow revisioners. How are you doing since converting from the band to Gastric bypass or sleeve? I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is typical or not. Strangely since I've had the RNY I haven't felt like I have any restriction. I'm wondering if it's because I'm used to the band. For example. I remember in the hospital when I had to take sips of water I was very worried at first and sipped very slowly but much to my surprise I had no problem drinking. I've noticed no matter what I eat or drink I don't feel restricted in any way. I tried a taco today with meat, cheese, onion, tomato, taco sauce on a shell and although I ate it slowly I had no problem eating it. I did not feel full or stuffed, in fact I could eat more even though I would never try but I thought it odd. With the band I'm not sure I could have eaten the whole thing in the same time frame. Any one else experience this? I just want to say until this experiment I've only been eating protein shakes, sugar free pudding, chicken and cheese sticks. At almost 7 weeks out I'm wondering if my new small stomach is really all that small or am I just worrying unnecessarily.

Everyone is looking great! I went on a cruise last week and realized I can eat just about anything. I've been having a hard time getting back on track since I've been home. I find that I'm actually feeling hunger for the first time since surgery Jan 28th. I go to the gym everyday and did on the boat but those dinners were so good. I had little bites of food here and there and even had a bite of dessert. I was shocked when I went to the doctors today and I actually lost 4 pounds! I think it's because I'm Actually eating. I'm down only 43 lbs since surgery but I am very happy with it. So happy to see such success and progress for everyone.
