Thank goodness you caught it. I'm a bag of nerves too!!!! I can't believe it's almost here. I'm thinking Monday is prep day to drink that gross stuff so I have the weekend and that's it. It's scary and exciting. I was watching the biggest loser last night ( I've never seen it before) and at one point I just sat and thought how we put so much value on being thin. It's like one is not valid as a person or worthy unless they are thin. Sometimes I feel like I'm buying into that. Oh well. I'm doing it.

Hello All, I am new here. I'm having surgery on Jan. 28th. I'm scared to death and very excited. I look forward to and hope I've found an online community that is active to share my hopes, fears, and accomplishments with as well as learn from those who have been there. I had a lap band in 2007 but have lost only approx 50 lbs. so I've decided to go for the gastric bypass which is what I wanted to do to begin with but was too afraid to go through with it. I look forward to meeting everyone

Hello I am from the South Shore. I don't see anyone else from my area. :-( I'm having conversion from the lapband to gastric on 1-28-14 with Dr. Hess at Boston Medical. I definitely would love to see some physical support groups but there doesn't seem to be any in my area. I know there are quite a few peeps that have had the surgery so I'm surprised there's not more support by way of groups locally. Nice to have found this sight. I look forward to meeting everyone.

I had the ultrasound and I don't have Gall stones so my gall bladder is safe for now. Im getting so nervous. my surgery is one week from tomorrow on Jan 28th. Kenny I think ours is around the same day. I am getting nervous. I just went to Vitamin Shoppe and met a really great employee who helped me out. We bought Isopure and Calcium Citrate liquid. He said Flintstone vitamins are not that great because it has synthetic vitamin E or something. I already bought a huge bottle so it will have to do for now.

Kenny, Sorry to hear you have a hernia and gallstones but happy you can get them taken care of at the same time. My ultrasound is tomorrow. I am very curious as to whether or not my gall bladder will have to come out or not also. Two weeks to go. I've been trying to figure out which Vitamins to buy. Are you getting nervous?

Sounds good to me. As long as they still do the bypass. Will that add extra days on to your recovery?

Hello urkillingme. I can totally relate. I even failed at the band. How pathetic am I? I tell very few peeps I even had it because they look at me and I know what they're thinking. What really stinks is I didn't even loose much on a liquid Opti fast diet. Now I hear you loose less going from lap band to gastric, uggg!!!! I hated weight watchers because I was always the pathetic one in the corner that lost .5 lbs to everyone elses 2 to 5 lbs. Really?! Wtf? My husband would loose 5 times more than me and he even gets to eat more!!!!! Whatever. I need to do this and even if I only loose 50 lbs it is still better than being fat and starving. At least I can be skinnier and starving. Best of luck. I look forward to sharing the journey.

I'm so sorry you won't have support. We are all here for you.
  23. The band has been an interesting experience for me and my husband. I can't believe it has been about 6 or 7 years since I had it done. I had to do the Opti fast liquid for about a month and Atkins for about 6 weeks and I barely lost any weight. I think I ate so little on Atkins that I was in starvation mode. I also went to the gym during that time and I only lost a few pounds before my surgery. Weight loss has been a tough road for me. I've always starved myself all day for fear of "waking up the beast" then consume most of my calories at night. I'm not of fan of regular food but instead I'm a carb queen. The band has in my opinion exacerbated my bad habits. It causes me to drink my calories because of tightness. It has made it easier for me to make bad choices and continue my night time eating. Having said that 50 lbs is 50 lbs. every time I go to the doc I lose weight instead of gain. It may only be a pound here and there but it's better than a lifetime of gaining. I'm looking forward to the bypass. In hindsight I should have done the RNY in the first place. I definitely fear losing my friend sugar/carbs but I am also so excited to eliminate it as well. I know it won't be easy but I'm up for the task. I look forward to being healthy more than anything else. I'm looking forward to eating calories instead of drinking them. My biggest fear is I will be the one person who does not lose weight. I eat so little now and barely lose. My body is so accustomed to starvation. Having had the band first makes me fear it all the more. I've enjoyed reading your responses and am encouraged by the results you all have experienced even with the conversion. This was a long one, lol. Thanks for reading all the way through.

Hello all thank you for the warm welcome :-). I went to another forum that was recommended on my paperwork but it was not very active. Glad to have found an active site. I think we all need to stick together! Some peeps really don't understand what it's like to be overweight and the struggles that come with it. There are quite a few people though that have had the surgery even in my small town. I however have chosen not to tell anyone about my new venture. I feel like a failure with my lap band. I don't need any additional pressure with the bypass. Especially since I'm hearing you loose less going from a band to bypass conversion. I'm in the Boston area. I had my pre op but got a call they need me to do an ultrasound on my gallbladder. What if they find stones. Will they cancel the surgery?
  25. Hello, my husband had a very similar experience as you. We have never heard of it happening to anyone else so it was surprising when I read your story. His was infected from day one. The doc did nothing for years. Finally it got so bad that emergency surgery was required. We relocated and which ultimately saved his life because he went to a different doc. The band and port site were infected. The band ate a hole through his stomach and his organs grew around the holes preventing sepsis. He could no longer stand up straight. He was in the hospital for a month and nearly lost his life. The original surgeon from a private practice never took the appropriate precautions. I too have the band but have never had any complications.
