How long after insurance approval were you scheduled?
Sreeves replied to ready2B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a great question! I was wondering that same thing. I have BCBS of North Dakota and they seem to approve things quickly but I had been wondering if it would take longer for something like this or not. -
gastric bypass changed my life
Sreeves replied to infinite_allure's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, lady, you look amazing! From the sounds of it you feel amazing, too!! What an inspiration you are. Thank you for that wonderful post and those amazing pictures. I am starting round 2 of my journey (revision) a lot later in life than you did and I am excited to FINALLY be able to have the chance to have the life I have always wanted. Please be sure to keep us all updated. I would love to learn from you! -
Making big, life decisions
Sreeves replied to ladykatie_'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, that is a huge decision. I love that you are considering both joint AND individual counseling, and that you want to fight for your marriage. Only you know whether your marriage is worth saving and a counselor will be able to help you decide what is best for you. You sound like you have have put a lot of thought into your situation. I am so sorry you have so much on your plate ( ! ) while dealing with all that WLS brings, but take care of you first and foremost. I pray that things work out the way they are supposed to and that you come out the other side happy and whole. -
Thank you, Bring it! I ordered it too and I have started reading it. Trying to get as much information as possible before The Big Event!

Hi, my name is Sheri. i originally joined BariatricPal in 2007 before Lap Band surgery in Mexico (Nov. 2007, Dr. Acevez) but I didn't really get involved with the forum here, opting instead for a yahoo forum. I did lose quite a bit of weight with the band but I got way too tight and my fill nurses quit their services during that time and my husband lost his job, making a visit to a band doctor at $350 per fill impossible. So, I proceeded to eat around my band for the next 3 years and managed to stretch my pouch but good. I am now looking into revision surgery (Steven Hunter, Virginia Mason, Federal Way, WA) and I am trying to get my head in the game this time. I did learn a lot from my banding experience and I am hoping to learn even more before starting this journey. I would like some suggestions on reading ,material (head hunger, etc) and I am looking to connect with others no matter where you are in your journey. We're all in this together, right?

I am positive I am missing something here, lol. I registered at BariatricPal 7 years ago when I was getting a lap band. I am getting ready for revision to gastric bypass, but every time I try to search for something I get defaulted to the lap band forums. Is there a way to set preference? You would think I had never been on a forum before. Sheesh!

Can I choose which forums to follow?
Sreeves replied to Sreeves's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Ahhh, thank you, Alex! I knew I had to be missing something somewhere. I forgot I had my previous surgery stored in there. -
Thanks, everyone! I am happy to have a place to go for answers and to share stories, etc. I think I am more nervous this time than I was before the band. Now I know I can totally screw it up if I want to and I want to be much more prepared this time. I was already leaning toward The Big Book on Gastric Bypass and now I know it is the one I should pick up first!

I am very proud of the way you handled such a devasting blow. You are a true inspiration to me. ~Sheri -
I just got banded on NOvember 2! SUMZ, I know what you mean about flying. I had surgery Friday, stayed in Mexico until Sunday, rode 3 hours to San Diego and stayed at a motel until Monday morning, then travelled by air back to Washington with 1 layover in Salt Lake. THEN I got my car from my sisters and drove my daughter and I back home, 2 hours away. I feel really good today. Didn't think I would! I am about to gnaw off my right arm, tho (I am left-handed).

I just got the preop diet today, and I don't know if I am going to do it or not. I will have to start tomorrow, but I am really kinda being bad right now, sort of the last big harrah. I figure I'll eat whatever i want for a few days, then I will feel so lousy that I will be good a few days before. Kinda like aversion therapy. I know I have to start weaning off of coffee, though, and I am having a really hard time with that one. Yikes.:car:

I am getting banded next week, too! On November 2, in Mexico. I am pretty nervous also, but I can't believe how many people I know that have already been banded. I just talked with someone yesterday that I never knew was banded. She told me about it when I told her what I was doing. She said it is the best thing she has ever done for herself. I feel better knowing that there are so many of us! Sheri

That's pretty much how I am trying to see it. I was just so surprised that there was THAT MUCH negativity! Intimate saboteurs. That is hillarious! I love it.

wow that sounds like MY story! I told my husband this morning that this is actually going to happen and he got that deer-in-the-headlights look. Like when I quit my job to go back to school. Fortunately, that worked out (going back to school) so hopefully he will latch onto this, too. He would never say anything un-supportive, but I could tell he has reservations, most likely how we are going to pay for it. I will fill him in on the details later. Did you have a problem getting your isurance to pay?

This is only my second time on this forum. I looked at it last night, and today I got a packet in the mail from one of the (fairly) local weight loss centers. I am sure I want this surgery, so now I am in the process of trying to figure out what to do first. I decided I want the band because my problem is more portion control than anything. I eat healthy foods-just way to much! I have been talking about this at work. I work in a hospital. One of my coworkers had the ancient stomach-stapling and has been vigorously trying to talk me out of surgery. I told her my reasons for wanting the lap band. She is not convinced. No biggie, but today my other coworker scoffed at my choice. She said if she really wanted to she could go on a diet and lose the weight without the surgery. Yippee for her. I told her I obviously can't because I am 40 years old and still fat. More fat than ever. and I have tried everything out there! I know this is right for me, but I am really surprised at the total lack of support for my decision. It really bothered me today, which is why I got on this board tonight. Funny this is the first thread that came up! I feel better knowing that there is a lot of support here. I am obviously going to need it! :paranoid I saw my dr. today and she is going to put me in touch with someone that has has the gastric bypass and who works at the same hospital I do. Our insurance states that it will not cover weight-loss surgery, but since we are being required to join a wellness program by the end of the year if we want a raise next year, I am going to do whatever it takes to get them to pay. I mean, they are giving $500 to anyone who wants to quit smoking for aid in that. I already quit, so why can't they help me with MY health issue! I anticipate a fight but I am ready. I hope. :faint:
