I could try melatonin... but I've tried it prior to surgery and it never worked for me, so I'm not sure it would work now.

If you think of it, let me know know what your doc says. I had had my post op appt yesterday and completely forgot to ask! Probably because I don't sleep... hah

emotional eating.....wtf
Sarahjane79 replied to readyanxiousscared's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know every doctor/nut is different, but Edys makes a no sugar added mint choc chip ice cream that my nut has ok'd in small amounts. And it tastes just like real full sugar ice cream. Even though I love it, I haven't had a problem with keeping it in the house. I usually only eat a few bites at at time, and only if I've gotten all my Protein for the day. I'm 5 weeks out. -
DO NOT WEAR A TAMPON. Unless you know without a doubt you'll remember to tell the nurses you have one in. My docs reasoning was because If you don't tell anyone, you're far too drugged up after to remember you have one in. Classic time to possibly get tss, or just forget about it. You aren't the first person to have their period while having this surgery, and you won't be the last. I grilled my doc about this before surgery, because I have bad luck and figured I'd get my period right before. Thank god u didn't, and haven't had one since Feb 5.

I love myfitnesspal! Feel free to add me to! Sarahjanemsu. Always nice to have buddies that are logging and losing like you are. -
I slept for almost 4 weeks on my couch, after surgery. I finally tried my bed and was comfy for about a week. The last 3-4 nights has been terrible sleep, even on my couch, due to pain and just not being able to get comfortable. I'm planning on taking some pain meds tonight in hopes I'll get some sleep tonight.

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Sarahjane79 replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh yeah. It's amazing how exciting a poop is now. Haha. My bff that had surgery in December and I joke about it all the time. -
My surgeon did the same! Was nice to have everything when I got home from the hospital.

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Sarahjane79 replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will! We all have had (and will have) stalls. I've just decided to weigh myself no more than once a week, or less. My clothes are the biggest indicator for me, if the process is going well:) while I obviously want to weigh less, I'm going by how my clothes fit, and how I feel. -
Any burning type pain around an incision this far out is nerves healing and coming back to life. And my doc said that you can have pain around your large incision for up to 6 months. Uggg.

Post-op Support System
Sarahjane79 replied to law001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery is most important, in my opinion. I also had 2 surgeons I could chose from. Same track record and both were great surgeons. But one of their programs just wasn't that put together. It's still fairly new, and since I think after is so important, I went with the surgeon who had a better, more put together program. -
Post op Thrush. Probiotics? Help.
Sarahjane79 replied to CrazyJaney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was unlucky and didn't get thrush (yeast infection) in my mouth.... but in the most worst place for a woman. Luckily it wasn't itchy, but I had to do 2 rounds of the antibiotics for it to go away. A yeast infection of whatever variety is really common after surgery, at least trays what I was told. You're given some pretty hard core antibiotics while In the hospital that can cause it. -
Does everyone have to wait six months before surgery?
Sarahjane79 replied to Phatmonkey85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have bcbs of MI and I went in for my consult on 12/26, (and that scheduled surgery and my EGD that day) and surgery was less than 2 month later on 2/19. -
hiccups gas and stomach noises ... does it ever get better?
Sarahjane79 replied to Iambeautiful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4.5 weeks out and sometimes my stomach is just as loud as the first couple days after. From what I've read, the noise is here to stay. Mine is usually WAY quieter than the first week, though. -
I used my ipad once. And only for about 5 minutes. Other than that I slept, and if I wasn't sleeping I was walking, or my phone and Facebook were enough for me. So no. I didn't need movies or anything loaded. I didn't even turn my tv in my room on, and I was there for 2 nights.

Period during surgery, please help!
Sarahjane79 replied to greensleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't wear anything the day of surgery. I expressed my concerns for if I had a period when going in for surgery and he said the day after I could use a tampon if I wanted. Thank god I had no period, and haven't had one since. Woo! But honestly. The first time I peed when I got to my room, the nurse tech had to wipe for me, because I couldn't bend to reach. There isn't any humility in a hospital. Nurses and techs have seen it all. Seriously. (I'm going to school for nursing) -
I took a pair of underwear, an extra pair of pants, my pillow, phone charger, and ipad and that's it. I used my ipad once.. I didn't need anything more, in fact, I would have been fine with just the pillow and phone charger as I didn't put any clothes back on until I left, and I put on what I wore in. I used a second gown as a robe, and honestly wouldn't have cared either way! Hah. There wasn't a single thing I wished I had. In fact, I wish I didn't have my bag, as I left with a bag full of stuff from the hospital. (Stuff for dressing your wound, an extra abdominal binder, other crap)

Wondering if anyone stayed home alone right after surgery?
Sarahjane79 replied to trudyjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I came home alone. Well, I have a roommate, but I wasn't about to depend on her for help. My dad does live a few miles away, so he was close enough if I needed something. But I was fine being home alone. I could get up and stuff on my own. The only thing I couldn't do for maybe a week was pick stuff up of the floor. I also slept propped up on my couch for almost 4 weeks. Just couldn't lay comfortably in bed... Although I still can't lay 100% comfy, but I was over my couch. -
EGD this friday ..... Im nervous !
Sarahjane79 replied to Tammylb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cause if you were awake, you really think you'd let someone shove a camera down your throat?? I know I wouldn't! -
Awesome! I've been offmy blood pressure meds since a week before surgery (for the surgery itself) and never had to go back on them after surgery. My average bp is 102/70. Woo! I'm also only on the Prilosec, and no other meds. Feels amazing.

Things you wish you would have known...
Sarahjane79 replied to Mary_B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same things for me. Water still makes me feel Ick at 4.5 weeks out and I'm still hurting a little bit from also ripping something in my big incision 9 days out.. Just cause you feel good doesn't meant you're healed. Be careful! -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
Sarahjane79 replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same, except I'm usually anywhere from 500-700 cals. But real bad on the fluids. I have my 5 week appt with my doc Tuesday, and I plan on having a good conversation with him about it.
