A few questions from a pre-op if you don't mind
pnwguy replied to Wires's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I drink up until my first bite as well and typically wait at least 45 minutes before drinking anything more then a sip to rinse my mouth. Immediately post op for the first month I used the Bariatric Advantage Protein powder, but have after I got on soft foods, I switched to a single ready to go Protein shake (Premier Protein from Costco) which I drink halfway between Breakfast and lunch. I didn't puree anything either (puree actually wasn't on my plan) - for me it was 3 days of Clear liquids, then 2 weeks of full liquids, then 2 weeks of soft foods, then back to regular food as tolerable. As far as Snacks, at this stage I find I do need to snack a bit between meals in order to get in my recommended protein. A snack for me is usually something like a cheese stick or a Danon Light and Fit yogurt (12g protein,80 cal!) My surgery team didn't outlaw caffeine out right, just to cut back. Immediately after surgery I didn't have any caffeine until I was on regular foods. At this point I usually have one Americano every other day or so. I use Crystal light powder or other flavor liquids in my Water.. post op I find I can't drink water as well when it is plain. For movies, I only get a water, and maybe take in a Protein Bar and eat half of it. I'm staying away from popcorn until I get to my goal. -

Is your angry one the left most one while looking down? I had my surgery on 1/28 and this one by far is the one that looks the worst. I also had an incision inside my belly button, my surgeon used this as the extraction point for the stomach. I suspect the angry one was used for the scope.

MFP seems to have more food already entered into its database, with Lose it, I was constantly having to enter my own custom foods. I originally used Lose it before I was considering WLS, then switched to MFP during the pre op diet, switched briefly back to Lose it post op, w I'm back on MFP.. I consider MFP to be a better fit for me. MFP also has a Windows Phone app, Lose it does not, so that was also a deciding factor for me.

Anyone else addicted to food network?

I love watching Diners Drive-ins and Dives. I've been watching it a bunch while I was off of work post surgery, and am trying to get ideas for WLS friendly recipes that are based on stuff I see on the show. -

Looking back at my weight tracker, on my day 6 post op, I weighed exactly the same as the day I went in for surgery. Over the next two days, 3 pounds came off. Another week later, and I'm another 7.5 down. - Granted I'm male, so YMMV. -

Did your doctor want to see your for follow up before you advance to the next stage...pureed foods? I don't have a puree stage with my diet plan, instead, after day 14 I go right to soft foods (Tuesday) and continue that for 2 weeks. I saw my surgeon 7 days post surgery for my first follow up. I have a second follow up at the 4 week post surgery mark which is also around the time my diet has me starting regular foods. I'll likely wait until after the appointment before proceeding with that phase. -

I had a great experience as well, Sleeved on 1/28, came home on 1/29. I'm had no issues with any full liquids, am able to get 64oz of fluids down in addition to two protein shakes a day. I came off the Lortab and anti nausea last Sunday, and have been avoiding taking liquid Tylenol, even though I have some handy just in case. Pain is rather minimal, except for the bruising around the belly button incision which is where the stomach was removed from. I'll be moving to soft foods on Tuesday! I'm hoping that based on how things have been going so far that I will be able to manage everything OK. -

Good luck on your interview! -
LOL, weighed myself this morning to see how many pounds worth I gained from the fluids and gas.. clocked in at 297.. preop weight was 288. I think I'll stay off the scale for another week to give things a chance to settle. Not discouraged at all, just amused.

Calling all sushi lovers!
pnwguy replied to gohelpyourself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I'll end up getting sashimi instead of sushi rolls when I have a sushi fix. For my Indian fix, we normally get take out, so I plan on making either cauliflower rice or serving the curries over quinoa. And will probably go easy on the Naan until I'm farther post-op. http://ohmyveggies.com/how-to-make-cauliflower-rice/ -
I had my wife's iPad Mini and was posting from the wifi at the weight loss center They have their own surgical/recovery, so no hospital for me. I was in and out from sleep as well, I would take a sip and do something until I nodded off, which usually happened within 15 minutes. I'm at home now (was discharged around 8am this morning). Feeling pretty good, minimal pain so far, I'm being careful to keep up on the hydrocodone and Zofran. Its nice to be home isn't it? I hope you have all the support you need in place. I was curious, though, how long will it be before you follow up with your surgeon and how long did your surgeon say to wait before you could exercise? It's great to be home! Exercise wise, walking daily, work up to 60 minutes a day, can be broken up to start. I don't have any specific dates for weights or anything more strenuous as of yet, I hope to start cycling after the weather gets better. I have a 1 week follow up scheduled for the 4th, and then monthly appointments for the at least the next 6 months (might be 12), then yearly appointments. I'll also be following up with my PCP in April or May for my diabetes. Additionally, I'm also going to be testing my daily blood sugar more often and keeping more detailed logs so that my PCP can help me reduce my dosages - I'm currently on 2000mg metformin ER and 10mg glipizide daily)
