  1. Hello I had my surgery done two years ago and meet the requirements through a army hospital. At time of surgery I loss weight and was down to a BMI of 33.8 and I had two co morbidities. Fast forward to today and I need a revision because my sleeved failed( doctors error). Tricare denied me and my appeal because I don't meet the civilian standards from my original surgery. I meet them now though but because at the time of surgery I was under BMI. I am going to do an external appeal because I need a revision. Any help on what I can do or add to my appeal would be great. Also if you had an external appeal with Tricare could you let me know how the process was! Thanks

    External appeal Tricare?

Tricare said I can do an external appeal and are sending me the paperwork to do it. I was in Washington when I got the original surgery done and now in Illinois. My new surgeon has written a letter saying that it was a error and that I will need to have a revision but I still got denied.
  3. Just be careful I was 35 at initial weigh in but 34 BMI at surgery. Now two years later my new doctor wants to do a revision but Tricare denied it because I was 34 BMI at time of original surgery. Working on an appeal right now though.
  4. Hello I was wondering if anyone has filed an appeal for a revision? I had to do a pathway program in order to get my original surgery and fell to a 34 BMI but was able to still get the surgery because of my starting weight. It's been two years and my new doctor says they screwed up my sleeve and I need a revision but Tricare denied me do to being only 34 at the original surgery. Any tips on what to put in my appeal to get this done would be appreciated. I had my original surgery done in an Army Hospital if that helps anyone Thanks

  6. Hello I am almost three months out of the sleeve and haven't lost in over a month I upped my water and protein and even went back to liquid for a couple days to see if that would jump start it. I have only lost 20 since surgery which I know is good but I feel over a month is a long time to not lose anymore. For you who revised when did you guys make that step or is there something else I can try to start my weight loss again?

    Madigan-sleeve-tricare

I had to go through the 6 month class that they have for the bariatric program. I had to go through the navy before I could go through Madigan so it was a bit different for me. You had to show you were losing weight and see a dietician and get approvals through them your pcm and a psychologist before you can see the surgeon. As long as you follow the program it goes smoothly. It took me 10 months to be approved but the navy jerked me around not Madigan.

I just had the sleeve done on 10/28 and Tricare covered it but it had to been done at an MTF.

    Catheter during surgery

They left mine in until lab works came back showing I was stable. It was just incase they needed to go back in for any reason
  13. That could be although I've be sipping so I have no clue
  14. Was sleeved on the 28th and doing pretty good so far! Lost about 9 pounds so far which I am happy about! The burping I never thought about though. It seems like I'm always burping now!
  15. I Have a vivosmart. Schoe394 is my user name there if you want to friend me. 5 days out of the sleeve today! It will be good to have someone else on their with me!
  16. I have Tricare prime although active and in the process of getting the sleeve surgery and I have known a lot of people get it done through Tricare and had no problems with them.
  17. I'm going through Tricare prime up is Everett. Do you have a case manager? I found my therapist through her and the therapist sees a lot of military wives going through the procedure so she knows what stress we can all have and she is okay with it. Maybe someone can help you find one who knows more about the military life because I only have a couple friends where I live too and it plays no part on why I'm going through the procedure and if I can handle it or not and they should see that for you too!

    Excited and ready

Mine is excited for me but yeah I think he is nervous about all the changes that are being made and will be. He's active and exercises daily but it's a change for everyone in the family! It's a little scary but exciting all at the same time!

    Excited and ready

Oh okay. Yeah they just changed the requirements of the program here last month to a minimum 6 months classes and dietician. I see the dietician again on the 2nd and she said if everything stays the same and I continue doing everything she will sign off since I will be at 6 months. I have the Approval from everyone else so I'm just waiting for her now. So hopefully by the end of the next month I will be sleeved.

    Excited and ready

Good luck. Just wondering why Tricare isn't covering it though. My husband is military and they are covering mine. Just doesn't make sense to me. Congrats on your new journey though!!
