Mourning Food - Post Op
SlowlybutSurely replied to SlowlybutSurely's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like I said earlier, the funny thing is that I wasn't a "food" person before the surgery. I gained probably 70% of my extra weight from sodas back when I was a sodaholic. I'm not one for sweets so never ate donoughnuts and rarely, rarely, rarely ate fast food other than hotwings and didn't even get the fries because I don't care for them. I think my mourning is before I knew I COULD have those things if I wanted them and now I KNOW I CAN"T have those things even though I didn't really want them before. I know...I'm going to blame this psychoatic mentality on the sleeve...LOL! -
1 year out ... and at goal!
SlowlybutSurely replied to KimMarh's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! That's a lot of weight and is akin to what I need to lose. Did you have any real loose skin issues? I hear that it largely depends on your age though and I'm older than most so I'm really afraid about that. -
I have to experiment with my shake-making in order to come up with something that I like and it tends to work. For instance, I mix unsweetened almond milk with chocolate almond milk (because I'm not a chocolate fan) and then add 2 scoops of Protein powder. I also use plain yogurt or regular almond milk and blend with frozen fruit (peaches, strawberries, blueberries) w/powder. I HATE the pre-packaged protein shakes and there's no one way to make your own shake/smoothie to get your protein in as long as you watch the carbs & calories. This is a link that I found on this website earlier http://www.advancedbariatricsurgery.com/forum/?f=10. I'm also going to order my powder from Jay Robb because those are lower in calories and carbs and higher in protein. http://www.jayrobb.com/default.asp.

I need help with a horrible stall! Any advice to kick start things?
SlowlybutSurely replied to megansmommy123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know, stress still plays a role in weight loss/gain so if you're constantly stressing over 2 lbs, then that could be the very reason why you're not losing that 2 lbs. IJS! -
I personally feel that if you're not 100% committed, then you should wait simply because this is a LIFETIME LIFESTYLE change (LLC) and it's not easy but definitely doable. If you're ever 100%, then you're 100% committed to the LLC! No one can predict what life AFTER surgery will be like.....loose skin, complications, hair loss, killer cravings for a Five-Guys Burger....so you have to be willing to deal with those things IF you decide to have the surgery and they arise. That's why I say being 100% committed is VERY important before the surgery!

How can you tell you're losing weight?
SlowlybutSurely replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shamps, it appears that you had your surgery in January and have lost 24 lbs. That excellent! So I'm not sure why you're allowing yourself to worry over losing .6 lbs from one day to the next. The surgery is not meant to act as magic so I think you're well on your way to your goal weight but at the same time, we have to have patience while still doing the right thing. I do NOT weigh every day but I'm not one that want to lose extra fast because I would like to avoid as much extra skin as possible but to each his own. I can tell you this though, if you allow yourself to stress over stalls, it will definitely slow down your progress. -

Why wouldn't you believe the scale? You are still the shame shape so that's probably why you look the same to you and it's funny that others notice the change in looks even before you do. However, if your scale says that you've lost 30 lbs, BELIEVE IT! -
Acid reflux is awful!

I hope you feel better but I don't think anyone of us can predict the future, even if it's only two days from now. -
Oh god! slipped off the pre - op wagon!
SlowlybutSurely replied to rosieposie88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I know people that didn't even do the pre-op diet and I've even read where some doctor's don't even require it. I wasn't taking any chances though although I did eat the recommended grilled chicken and green salad twice during my 10 day pre-op diet -
Stomach Gas/Bloating?
SlowlybutSurely replied to BillieG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor actually gave us a liquid antacid (the white milky like stuff) and I'm not even a week out yet. It actually works pretty good with the gas. Keep working on those farts though because that's nothing but RELIEF! -
Help...I I'mnot losing weight..What have I done wrong?
SlowlybutSurely replied to medicine1girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Increase your protein and water but you might want to check into B12 shots to jump start the loss but protein and water should help, -
Had Bariatric surgery in Tijuana January 2014.......

Losing weight preop!?! Help!
SlowlybutSurely replied to LaGueriTaChuLa13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try Atkins for the short time period or the diabetic meal plan. I personally found Phentermine diet pills (fastin pills) helpful but a lot of people can't take those and a lot of doctors won't even subscribe them. -
Can someone tell me where I can find sugar-free juices? I have to admit that I'm not quite sure what that means. I thought sugar-free juices meant basically no carbs but the ones I saw at Walmart that claimed to be sugar-free all were loaded with carbs. I have a juicer and might have to make my own, at least initially after surgery in 3 days but I'd much rather purchase REAL sugar free juices. I can't live without my juice (which is a soda substitute for me since I was hooked on sodas). Besides, that juicer is HECK to clean!

Mushies stage, did anyone have baby food?
SlowlybutSurely replied to desertpixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LadyDiva, thank you so much for that link. That is exactly the kind of information I've been searching for. I'm pre-surgery still for another 3 days but this is the kind of info I find extremely helpful. I've always been one of those eaters that don't enjoy food but was a sodaholic. I simply eat to kill hunger and I usually wait until I'm starving, around 2:00 in the afternoon, to even have my first meal and then eat the absolute worst kind of food. Had no idea this was very bad for the metabolism. -
Honestly, I think it's like applying for disability. They know that you qualify in the very beginning but I think they've made it standard practice to deny the initial application just hoping that many people will give up, which so many do and don't take advantage of the appeals process.

Fresh Fruit is naturally sweet and don't have artificial sugar or sweeteners but I guess I get confused when it says 100% juice and sugar free but then have corn syrup added as a sweetener. I'm just gonna have to use my juicer. That way I will be positive that I know what I'm taking in.

Go to you tube and type in his name and the city. There are some video testimonials on there.

Feeling shakey in Alabama
SlowlybutSurely replied to LRG2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like your husband is simply concerned about you and a little afraid of losing you and would rather have you as you are than not at all. But you've got to do this for you. Some might say it's selfish but I say it's selfish if you're not 100% happy with yourself because you're not giving anyone your best. What does your gut instincts say? I have surgery on Friday (01/10/14) in Tijuana and although I'm a little apprehensive, I'm Prayed up. -
Go to youtube and type in his name of the clinic/coordinator name. There's usually some videos on there about all of them. I personally haven't seen any because I'm going to Tijuana and I know there's tons of people that post from their experiences there.
