  1. One more thing I forgot. Walking issues can be blood pressure issues. It's not uncommon to have to grab onto a wall for a while with dizziness or lightheadness. I did.
  2. Sorry, I'm the plainest eater you'll find. Plain steak, chicken and burgers (with catsup). I've always been this way. Regarding the cheese, perhaps lactose intolerance has kicked in. It's not uncommon (esp. for the first year). You might want to use lactaid OTC pills or try lactaid milk, cheese, etc. If you want recipes, I'll send you a PM as to where you might find them.
  3. Yes, And the dietician working with the bmi. They tod me it was probably because I wasn't getting enough copper which I've increased my intake of. I just meant that it's been my biggest struggle, the falling I mean. The protein they told me would probably get better over time. Interesting. I take a lot of copper because I need a lot of zinc (which I poop out). So the copper balances the zinc. I hope they're keeping a close watch on your copper via your blood work. Perhaps you'd consider using a cane until things go back to normal. You don't want to be falling. As for the protein, they're probably right. I drank 1 shake per day for the first 2 years as I couldn't eat enough. Have your tried other things than meat to supplement your protein: chicken, yogurt, fish, cheese, nuts, etc.?
  4. Have you spoken with your surgeon about these issues?
  5. Welcome. Hope your journey keeps progressing. I know it sure can be frustrating.
  6. Sounds right to me; for now.
  7. I never thought the preop tests would end. So many. The whole thing is overwhelming and as odd as it sounds, they need to ensure you're healthy enough for WLS. So don't worry. You're certainly not alone in feeling this way.
  8. I had no drain; however, I certainly was exhausted. If you're still having pain, I'd call the surgeon just to check in.
  9. Glad to hear you've made it to the other side. Keep sipping, sipping, sipping. Rest & take it easy. Major surgery can knock you out. Do try & walk several times a day, though.
  10. Question 1: While on the liquid diet, would this be a good Vitamin choice: http://www.amazon.co...entrum chewable Looks good. I only had to chew a Flintstone’s child vitamin for the first month or so, but ever since then I’ve been on 2 Centrums (non-chewable) a day. So if your surgeon wants you to start with that then I’d do it. Question 2: I'm trying to order a variety of Protein supplement samples, I know tastes can change after surgery, but what is a good supply to have on hand from the beginning? Is the variety pack from unjury the way to go or will I need more than that initially? I never cared for unjury, but definitely try it b/c many people do. I drank a shake for the first 2 years, postop, as I just couldn’t eat enough. I liked the Myoplex and Muscle Milk shakes. I bought them premade in four packs. That way I never dealt with powders or a blender. I’d buy several different types (flavors) to see what you like. The odd thing is my tastes didn’t really change, postop. I know many people’s tastes do change, though. Question 3: Just want some veterans to fact check the other information I was given by my surgeon: a) Take a Multivitamin that provides you with 200% of the daily value. (typically 2 multi-Vitamins daily, but check label) I was never give a number (like 200%), just that I needed to take 2 multis per day. Once on soft foods add: Calcium citrate, B vitamins (sublingual b12) Iron and ADEK (dry, Water soluable) c) Protein Goal = 60, they've noted "it is okay to have more" (though I seem to remember from here the goal is 30=30 days, 60=60, 90=90 and some even go to 100-120? What is your average daily protein intake?) I took iron, calcium citrate and ADEK for the first year. After that first year, ADEK wasn’t enough, so I now take my vitamins separately. Many people don’t even start with ADEK but just go straight to separate vitamins. With the ADEK, you need to watch and see if you’re getting enough, esp. Vit. D. Most DSers I know don’t do the sublingual B12 as that’s more a RNYer thing. I don’t and never did. However, I wouldn’t fight my surgeon. I do, however, supplement with this. I do it b/c I began to have recall/memory issues a few years out and my team agreed there is anecdotal evidence that Vit. B might help. It has. I eat a ton of protein each day. My team wanted 80-120mg/day. They thought I should probably be around 100mg/day but I eat a lot more than then, usually. (I eat every couple of hours, generally). Initially, I couldn’t. As I said, I had to drink a shake for the first year b/c I just couldn’t eat enough. In addition, I couldn't follow the 30/60/90 rule. I didn’t get to 50 grams till about 6 months out. We’re all so individual so you just do what you can and supplement till you can eat enough. Question 4: Is it okay to get the majority of your proten from supplements if you have an aversion to meat? I have gotten a lot better at eating meat but I feel like there's no way I'll ever be able to get 100g proten from meat in a day, ever. I know my surgeons prefer you eat your protein as soon as you can. Is there any way you can eat more chicken, fish, eggs and just have some meat? But definitely supplement w/shakes if necessary. You don’t want to get low on protein. Best of luck.

    SIPS / SADI modified DS

You might want to consider coming to a support group at Lenox Hill. There are often SADI patients there.
  13. Hi, If you find yourself losing too much weight, your surgeon would most likely put you on an enzyme like Creon. You also might up your carbs as well.

    Newbie Here - Hello!

The full! I'm not surprised you feel as if hit by a Mack Truck. That's a ton of anesthesia and a ton of work done inside. It takes a while. Interesting about the muscle spasms. I didn't have those; but did have very swollen feet. Had to keep them on a pillow as I recall. Glad to hear you're trying to realize it's temporary. That's hard when it's happening to you. I had buyer's remorse quite early on as I felt like garbage & wondered what I'd done to myself. Hikergirl14 said I had the full DS on 4/21. I am really feeling down and my stomach doesn't stop aching. I am having these weird intense muscle spasms in my back, which could be caused by Vitamin deficiency. I start those as soon as they get delivered. I joked with my partner that being overweight never hurt this bad. I will just keep doing my program and this will pass.
  15. I had buyer's remorse several times over the first year or so. You really did have a time of it. Good on you for your positive attitude.
  16. When I go to it all I see is a list of other forums.
  17. You're right. I went online via computer & it was good. I'll check w/my iPad in the near future. Thank you.

    Newbie Here - Hello!

Welcome. Just curious if you're having the full DS or the SADI. I'd say it took close to a month till I was able to function. I was just exhausted. Took about 6 mos. till I felt about half my energy back & then at 9 mos. I felt like myself.
