Not losing weight but losing my mind
Postop replied to doxaholic's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@doxaholicHere and here is some info. All I can tell you is some DSers use it and/or fat bombs to break a stall. Also, you should be under 50 gr./carb/day if you wish to lose. I eat more protein & drink more when I'm trying to lose. -
Not losing weight but losing my mind

@doxaholicI've never tried it, but the Krispy Kreme or KFC fix has been discussed for a long time. Anything that will trigger loose stools. Google it. -

Just make sure you tell all physicians. They need to know. -
What Should I be Eating 1 year Post Op DS?
Postop replied to feeln_froggy's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Low carb is a good idea. <50 gr. per day. I'd up the liquids & protein. That's how we lose weight. Forget looking at calories. -
Congrats.

My Pre Op Vitamins and Minerals? Converting to Post op...

Hi. If you've had the traditional DS, there is no need to ever count calories. That's one of the beauties of the procedure. We also don't count fat grams. Eat full fat butter, mayo, yogurt. etc. We need this to help things move through the system. Once you're able to eat enough (or supplement with a protein drink until you can just eat and not need it) we aim for over 100 protein grams/day. I eat between 125-150 most days. Try and hold your carbs under 50gr. per day (esp. during the losing phase).

What are the differences between the various Duodenal switch operstions
Postop replied to davina17's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Loop DS, SADI, SADI-s, SIPS are all the same. Traditional DS is quite different. There are definitely pros & cons to having the traditional DS (I'm 12+ years postop) as I'm sure there are to the Loop DS. -
If you send me a PM with your email address, I can send you an attachment which lists all the vitamins/minerals for a new DSer (this document is given to us by my surgical team). After that your supplements are dictated by your blood draws. You can also check out Vitalady's list.

Are you having the full DS or the loop DS?
-
@swantu Make sure they perform the full DS (two anastomosis) if that is what you're interested in and not the loop DS, SADI-S or SIPS (single anastomosis). Do they remove the gallbladder and/or appendix during surgery? If not, do they give you a Rx for something like Urso to prevent gallstones. Does they do a standard size common channel (cc) and if so, what is the length, or do they measure it for each patient? What size would they consider for you? How often are your bloods done, first year, for the rest of your life?

Best of luck. Looking forward to welcoming you to the Dark Side.

Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
Postop replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
12 years later and only my immediate family and physicians know. When I first began losing I stated it was a bad gallbladder they finally removed so I could begin to drop all the weight. I applaud people who choose to tell. I just knew it wasn't right for me. -
One year post DS and seeing slow weight loss
Postop replied to Trena Tee's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm glad. You'll get there too. I'm unsure how much you're able to eat at 1 year out. I eat 125+ grams of protein on most days. I hate to say it, but you need to try and force it down. Is there nothing you really like? I'm not talking about shakes (which if you can't stomach food then shakes are a necessity. I drank at least one for the first two years, postop, as I just couldn't eat enough) but real food. I eat steak, lamb chops, hamburgers, fish, fowl, deli meats, cheeses, nuts, etc. Anything and everything. Remember, there's no counting calories with the DS. Just protein grams and sugars (simple carbs, too). What about your fat intake? That will help with constipation, To grease the wheels so to speak. How 'bout butter on your steak? Full fat mayo is a must. We need that fat to help us 'go'. If I want to lose a few it'll be a ton of protein. With lots of water and Crystal Light and very very low carbs. More protein & fluids = weight loss. -

Hi. Did you have a full DS? How much protein are you eating/day? What about carbs & fats? -
What form of Bariatric Vitamins do you prefer?
Postop replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Am only permitted to take dry forms with my surgery. Pills, capsules, tablets, etc. -
@jessgnc Hi. I sent you a PM.
-
I'd wait to have the results in my hands. Then I'd start smaller. Probably 50k/day. Then get another blood test at 4-6 weeks & look at your numbers. That's how I've done it.
-
Not a dumb question at all. A Duodenal Switch is very different than an RNY. Different operation, outcome, eating parameters and vitamin/mineral intake.
-
As a lightweight it sounds as if you're right on target. I remember I lost 19lbs. in my first month. That was pretty much the least of any DSer I knew. But I was like you. I knew I'd just keep chugging along. And I did. And I have. Almost 12 years later.
-
@mnorman23Sending you a PM.

It all depends on what your blood tests show. Many (not all) take 50, 100 or 150k per day of D3 (dry). I take 100k per day (Sunday-Friday) and 150k on Saturdays. When I have my bloods done next month I'll probably have to tweak that depending on what they say. How much calcium citrate are you taking per day?
