@cjsunshine I had a full DS. The planned hospital stay was 4 days but I stayed 5 due to a slight fever. My mother then stayed with me for almost a week. I needed her. Preparing the little I was eating, helping me walk outside 4x/day, etc. Can you sleep on the ground floor? Stairs may be tiring and might pull on your stomach. Esp. as you need to walk a good deal to heal. You also may want a recliner to sleep in for a while. I didn't but had to sleep with my legs up as my ankles became very swollen for a week or so.

Too many simple carbs (sugar) can cause weight gain. Plus....gas & stool you wouldn't like.

I remember when your surgeon passed. If you're going to Mexico you're in luck. There's a great surgeon there: Dr. Esquerra. He's the only one I'd go to. I also sent you a PM.
-
@Strivingforbetter Sure. For DSers it's thought to be about 18 months as it's such a powerful surgery. I was very careful and lost the bulk of my weight by about 13 months. I followed the guidelines to a "t" to really max it out. Then I lost more over the next few months. The beauty of the DS is sometimes years later you can just start losing for no real reason. Or if you went to take off a few you just eat more protein and drink more fluids.

Try once a week if you're really dying for it. But consider waiting like they suggested. You don't want to do anything to slow your weight loss during the first 18 months. That's your key losing window. I was very careful during that window to ensure I got the most weight off I could.

Lap band revision
Postop replied to yoyolifelong's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@yoyolifelong 12 year DSer here. I was pre-diabetic prior to my DS (my big issue was cholesterol). It is known to substantially help with diabetes. Also sent you a PM. -
Does your body adapt to the malnourish
Postop replied to tobiganymore's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@tobiganymore Flagyl is kind of a reset. It helps with the good and bad bugs in your system. You're quite lucky you've never needed it. Many DSers get a SIBO every once in a while & need Flagyl to even things out. It's available by Rx from your doctor. I know many DSsers who take it a couple of times a year just to keep things at an even keel. I try to remember to take it once a year to do that. But sometimes I haven't taken it for 3-4 years. Then when I find I'm having bathroom issues I remember I haven't taken it for a while. I take it for about 10-14 days and things get better. -
Does your body adapt to the malnourish
Postop replied to tobiganymore's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi, What my surgeons told me is the body fights its hardest to return to normal, but it can't bc it's been changed, permanently. Generally, the malabsorption does lessen somewhat after a few years and then usually reaches its set point. Does your stomach give you any pain while it's gurgling? Do you have gas or diarrhea? When is the the last time you did a course of Flagyl? May be time to sort things out. -
@Strivingforbetter I was just told to stay away from grapes/raisins as they're pretty much sugar. I eat 1 piece of fruit a day. Usually, a banana before bed. Sometimes an apple or peach. But I can't always finish it. Did you ask if it was a permanent ban or just during this high losing phase?
-
I don't know. I don't recall having it on an empty stomach. But it's been so long I might not remember. You have a brand new infant system so it could just be part of the adjustment.

My doctor wants me to have this done-->help...questions
Postop replied to Finding_Stacy's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Is the woman you are talking about have a first name that begins with "J"? If so, her hair looks OK to me. -
That's known as the foamies. Often after the DS that's how you throw up. It's kind of a gush of foamy saliva. I'll still get them if I eat or drink too much together at one time.
-
@donnainsd Remember it won't be forever. I eat a ton and have for years. Haven't touched a shake in 10 years!
-
@Cpeeps23 I had something similar after surgery. It was contact dermatitis and was a nightmare. The only thing that worked was: Prednicarbate Ointment 0.1%. It's a Rx. It saved me.
-
@donnainsd Hi, Here's the meal plan my DS surgeons and nutri. provided. Honestly, though, I needed to drink a shake for the first 2 years (nearly everyday). I couldn't eat enough protein until then. The rule of thumb is 30 gr/30 days, 60 gr/60 days, 90 gr/90days. I couldn't eat nearly that amount (YMMV); that's why I needed to keep up the shakes. Not sure which shakes you're using. I used premade (only) Mylopex and Muscle Milk, I didn't love them but I got them down like you.

The loop DS aka Sadi or Sips is a single anastomosis procedure rather than a double anastomosis procedure which is the full DS.
-
No. You're OK. While I had the full DS and not the loop, I'm certainly familiar with what you described.
-
Yes. Can be orange or yellow oil. It's rare for me now but every once in a while....

What a whirlwind! Surgery on July 19!

Welcome to the Dark Side. -
@TDS Sent you a PM.
-
Congratulations! You're getting the [loop DS, SADI, or SIPS correct]? From previous patients I'm told that's what he calls the DS, however, it isn't the traditional DS with 2 anastomoses. I just want to ensure you know what you're getting. Both are great WLS but are different.

Could be contact dermatitis. Is it red and/or blotchy? I got it after my gallbladder was removed. Horrid. They believe I was allergic to either the betadine (like iodine) and/or the steri-strips used in surgery. This was the only thing that helped: Prednicarbate Ointment 0.1%, It's a Rx.

Had my DS 2/17/17. 74 pounds down. I'm excited to be out of the 300 club but should I have lost more?
Postop replied to B_Lush77's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I was down about 62lbs. in the same period. I never could have lost that much on my own during a 4 month period. -
Not losing weight but losing my mind
Postop replied to doxaholic's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
They're high in fat and used to jump start DSer stalls sometimes. You can find a lot of recipes on the Web. -
Somewhere between 4.5-5 hours.
