Had Sleeve 3 yrs ago and now being offered DS - What to do?
Postop replied to peijeremy's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Yes. The full DS can affect medications. Everyone is different with it, but many of us have been affected. -
How Do People Not Lose Once at Goal?
Postop replied to Strivingforbetter's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I never feel deprived, either. I eat full fat foods and proteins. If you had the full DS you can, too. If you run into the problem of losing too much, remember many people have a small rebound after a few years. However, if you're just too thin, you can try adding more carbs. If that causes gas issues, than an enzyme like creon is usually recommended and that should stop the weight loss. -
Maybe you could go with the single anastomosis with Dr. Lopez? You'd get some malabsorption with that.
-
I believe he does the RNY and the single anastomosis DS. If you're looking for a full DS, Dr. Esquerra is probably your best bet.

Double check with your insurance. Many pay at 60.

Where are you looking to go?

Are you waiting to have the protection last longer when you're older?

Wow. Sorry to hear.

Questions about Duodenal Switch Surgery
Postop replied to Cats315's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@Cats315it really depends on your surgeon and your size as to whether or not he will so it in one or two steps. It would be a good idea to iron this all out before your surgery date. Also, you probably want to know if he does the full DS or the SIPS surgery. I had the full DS almost 13 years ago. My surgeons do not remove the gb and/or appendix. I wish they did as I had to have my gb remove 3 years postop. -

Vitamin/Supplement Requirements DS

Have you checked Vitalady's list? It's a good starting place. Then it'll be tweaked after your blood draws. -
Sleeve to loop duodenal switch (SIPS)
Postop replied to kimmie40351's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I know there have been some issues with reflux and the full DS. I'd ask my surgeon to consider if that's true with the single loop DS and/or the RNY. -

I'd check In where I mentioned in my PM. There are plenty of people there who have experience with insurance companies. -
Sent you a PM. I'm almost 13 years out. I had a hard recovery trying to figure out how my new stomach and gastrointestinal system worked. So I'd say I wasn't sure I'd made the correct decision until about 2 years out. Most other DSers I know are happier much more quickly. I have bloods done every 6 months. Some physicians requre it only once per year. I have to tweak my vits/minerals after each draw. My energy is very good. So much more than when I was big.

Feedback on having Duodenal Switch Surgery?
Postop replied to pinkey2018's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
If you don't want to bring a robe, you can wear 2 hospital gowns. One opening in the back & the one on top opening in the front. Good luck! -
Had one Saturday. Delicious.

Nope. A full triple cheeseburger. I don't eat it at one sitting. Probably wait about 1/2 hour till I can finish the rest unless I'm starving. Remember as a DSer I need 125+ grams of protein/day so I eat a ton of protein. Thanks, Fluffy. You'll get there, too.
-
Triple cheeseburger with ketchup. I have it for lunch or a snack a couple of times a week. I don't often eat the bun as it's too filling.

I sent you a PM.

Never knew this forum was here. I generally stick to the DS forum as there are so few of us.

Leading normal life while taking lots of supplements.

Good job. I ate a ton of turkey. Protein = DS👍🏻 BTW, a side effect of the DS is often low blood pressure and low pulse so there’s that, too. I often have to tell that to PAs when they take them or they worry bc my BP is low. Or they think I’m a runner.
