  1. I have done everything I was told, all the test, appointments, paperwork but it seems like I have to push to get information. I was told all paperwork was faxed and to call another number Monday. Called and was told someone else in the office would call me later (I assumed later in the day). No call, no call today so I called and was told that she didn't have me in the computer and would call me later. No call !!!!!! All I need is this meeting and the surgery date can be set. I know I am an emotional eater and this makes it so much worse. I feel like I'm being tested. This has been going on since July and I can't plan anything, vacation, I need my shoulder operated, no fund raising for my Avon Walk. I need to be able to walk 26 miles in 2 days the first weekend in May. I goes I'm just running out of patience and know I have to hang on a little long. I did 1 week of the pre-op diet, had to stop because everything is going so slow, so I will have to do that all over again. Makes me want a double double hamburger with fries!

    Walden Farms Foods

I have only tried the salad dressings and like most of them, it also helps that they have packets you can carry with you out to eat.

    Pre-op fears

Go to Youtube and search Fat Doctor. This is a UK TV show about patients just like us having bypass and the band. It is very graphic, actually showing the full surgery but the show addresses fears and questions we all have. Also shows patients several months later. I have watched at least 10 episodes and feel much more comfortable with the procedure. Also get The Big Book on Gastric Bypass, it will answer pretty much every question you have.

Not sure what's going on :(

With my Many, many years of dieting and failing I did learn that muscle weighs more than fat. Are your clothes to big? are you measuring to see if you are losing inches? I have read that there is a fair amount of people who have the bypass after trying the band and not having the weight loss they expected. I wish you best, hang in there!!!
  6. I guess my impatience is that I have absolutely no control over what is going on. I am a 5 yr breast cancer survivor and do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. My next walk is in Washington DC May 3 and I need to train walking up to 10 miles a day. It takes about 2-3 months to get conditioned and I'm afraid I won't be strong enough or keep hydrated for the walk. I usually walk 13 miles each day and not the 26 miles the first day. I would love to lose enough weight that I could walk at least 20 miles the first day and 13 the second. I also am not able to do the fundraising after the surgery because of the weight lifting restriction. I make jewelry and have to set up EZ ups, 6 ft tables and have to lift heavy boxes of jewelry in and out of the car. I have to raise $1800 and have raised $800 so far. After the bypass, once I recover I need to have my shoulder operated on soooooooooooooooo I am a little stressed!!!
  7. I felt the way, the insurance was not approved until after all of the test were complete. I felt it did delay (I'm still waiting) the surgery because you cannot get appointments for weeks, sometimes months. When I made my appt for my ultrasound they gave me an appt 2 months out. Luckily another clinic had an opening in 2 weeks but I had to ask for an alternative site. I know this helps weed out those who really are not dedicated to having the surgery but you really have to be your own advocate and be assertive in getting through this process. I have everything done, now I have to call Monday for the final ??Dietitian meeting. I'm not even sure what the appt is for. I still don't have that date. I'm really getting antsy which makes me eat!!!
  8. I'm so sorry to hear of your lack of support with your family. I live with my older sister and she is over weight, never diets and is more afraid of what will happen to her if something happens to me. Luckily the majority of friends I have told have been very supportive. All I can say is you have my support!!! If someone has never been over weight, they have no idea how you feel. Sometimes you have to just ignore all else and stand up for ME. I don't know if they are afraid you will change or afraid of the surgery but I wish you the best!!!! I am waiting anxiously for my date and hope you keep posting here so you receive support from those who know how you feel.
  9. I love, love, love this book. As a nurse I am used to researching everything I get involved in and this book has answered the majority of my questions and concerns. This website has also helped me a great deal preparing for my surgery. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in bariatric surgery read this book.
  10. Well, this is a new chapter in my life. I am 64 and have been trying to lose weight since I was 13 when my mother took me to a diet doctor. I have been on every diet and medication and have lost and gained at least 1000 pounds. My body type is the same as all the women on my mothers side, I'm just bigger. I have been working toward the surgery since July, jumped through all the hoops and waiting now for the date. Pre-surgery protein shakes getting boring, I'm so glad I found this forum.
  11. Thank you, I've had a good day, bad day. All my tests have been sent to the hospital and I need to call next week for my nutrition appt. I can stop the pre-surgery diet until I get a date. Bad news is I need shoulder surgery once I recover from the bypass. I watched the UK TV show on Youtube "Fat Doctor" and felt so much better seeing such successes. The surgeries are shown so clearly it helps understand what will be happening.

    Patiently waiting!

I am exactly where you are. I'm sitting by the phone waiting for the MD to call me today after reviewing the last tests. I feel that I can't plan anything until I have the surgery date or it will all fall through. I have been trying so hard to do the pre-op shake diet and but with the uncertainty I'm cheating and making myself feel bad about that. It's amazing how much guilt we pile on ourselves by just eating. I have seen 6 diet commercials in the last 2 minutes and all it dies is make me hungry. It is so wonderful reading everyone else's comments, I actually feel normal!!

    Going to the Movies

I am a popcorn addict and go to the movies several times a week. A friend who had the surgery recommended Gerber Graduates Puffs. They are a cereal snack that has a little crunch to it but melts in your mouth, 150cal for the whole container, no fat, 1 gram sugar, are rice based with several flavors. I put them in a baggie and snack through the movie. I'm doing my pre-surgery diet now, just waiting for my date!!
