why so much protein?
AllisonKara replied to loving.life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Adult women need about 46 grams a day. Most people get enough Protein, but some might do well to add a few supplements. A protein shortfall could mean trouble. It is important for many physiological functions from building and maintaining muscle, and bone to keeping cells in good working order. -
Two Months so far, is this normal?
AllisonKara replied to ahanna2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing fine. Our body does not start loosening fat in the first go. It starts with mild fat cells also called water fat. That is the first thing we lose. Then, comes the actual fat deposits. It starts slowly, and in time speeds up when we do not have much fat left in our body. So, no need to worry. All the best. -
Don't go for suggestions. Get a prescription. If you have already been to a doctor, then there is no need to worry. Just follow your doctor's advice. Everything will be fine.

Walking is the best therapy for this. Gas-X would work just fine. But, don't continue to walk much if you feel pain. Lie down, relax, ease up then walk some more.

Hard time walking
AllisonKara replied to Queenfreak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How are feeling now? Are you okay? I would suggest that you start taking mashed up food, but only if you can tolerate liquid foods. Beans, fish, egg whites, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. are good for health. -
Everyone is really different. Not many people can avoid taking tiny sips. But, if you think it is best for you, then feel free to do so. However, you should ask your doctor. A doctor's guidance is unmatched, but people avoid that most often. I don't understand why.

IMPORTANT! Can I swollow pain meds whole?
AllisonKara replied to Wendydarling19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations for your surgery. It is better if you consult you doctor in this case. Do not ask other what you should do. People can only share their own experience. It is recommended having liquid intakes if you cannot swallow your pain meds whole. -

How do you tell when you are full?
AllisonKara replied to acampbell1318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone has a separate metabolism reflex and control. But, mostly all of us feel very thirsty when our tummy is full. This happens as a metabolic reflex. When our stomach is full (not at a maximum capacity), then our brain triggers a signal for immediate requirement of water so that the food that we just ate can be pushed and sent to the intestines. Our stomach, however, kind of liquify the food that we eat. But, water is needed to complete the journey through intestines. -
I prefer having green tea over soda. Fresh water is the best. And, the day starts with a nice healthy cup of ginger tea.

No need to over-stress yourself. Exercising is crucial for a successful weight loss program. But, you must do it step wise. I hereby provide a link from University of San Diego, Bariatric and Metabolic Institute's article on exercise after weight loss surgery. I hope it helps and guides you well. Why Dieting Usually Doesn't Work -- a Ted Talk
AllisonKara replied to Bandista's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Many of us do not follow our dieting plan perfectly, better to say almost 90% people can't keep up with it. Our daily life work gets more priority than maintaining and sticking to our dieting plan. Another is peer pressure. I love chocolate. And, I also need to follow my diet schedule. -
Calories at four months post-op?
AllisonKara replied to laffypatty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well the University of California, San Francisco has provided some necessary guidelines and recommendations on protein and supplement intake after a bariatric surgery that applies to all. This includes eating protein rich food. A line from the site: "High-protein foods include eggs, meats, fish, seafood, tuna, poultry, soy milk, tofu, cottage cheese, yogurt and other milk products. Your goal should be a minimum of 65 to 75 grams of protein a day. Don't worry if you can't reach this goal in the first few months after surgery." -
anyone regret having WLS?
AllisonKara replied to Tizzielish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Loosening weight is not an issue. The issue of concern is after the surgery. Maintaining low weight is hard, specially if you love to eat. Workout benefits in those cases. -
Bmi Less Important Than Other Markers For Good Health
AllisonKara replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is surely a nice information. Nowadays BMI is not the only accurate marker. With other tests and analysis providing better results, people are not looking much at BMI. -
I never thought I'd say this, but..
AllisonKara replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
