AllisonKara replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Normally when one goes through the gastric sleeve surgery, there is weight loss and not weight gain.It helps to control our body parameters like regulating blood pressure and blood sugar. But if you are facing the rise in weight and if it is marginal then the condition can be controlled. It is always better to keep a check on your weight and find specific reasons for the rise in weight that you are facing. -
The Truly Scary Part of Bariatric Surgery
AllisonKara commented on bflblog's blog entry in Big Fat Loser
Hi, I really feel sorry to hear all this, but many a time we do come across things that are not at all imagined by us. Weight Loss surgery is of way to get rid from overweight and get the perfect health again. According to security point we should always keep the security up-to-date. -
I drink this wakey shakey berry Protein shake which tastes really great. It is low in calories and very much suitable for those who have undergone the lap band surgery or other weight loss surgeries. It is low in carbs and high in Proteins which makes it ideal for those who wish to stay in shape.

You should still be on complete liquid diet. It would be good if you can avoid spices as much as possible. You would be taking pureed food from the second week. All the best.

Are you a former smoker? How did you quit? Cravings?
AllisonKara replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot say that I am a former smoker. Sincerely I have smoked hardly 9-10 cigarette only. That too, about a year ago. I thought that smoking was kind off cool, but I really cannot stand it. Smoking is bad. It might seem okay, but when you take that in your fingers and when the smoke goes down in your body, all it do is harm. -
Cardiovascular exercises can help a lot. Slow walking, jogging, running, cycling, etc. might be useful. I hope it helps you.

is something wrong with me?
AllisonKara replied to Simpley_ke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feeling the urge to eat, to drink water, to walk, etc are common amongst all patients. You are already 3 months post op so I think feeling hungry is a must feeling now. In my opinion you should get in touch with your doctor and discuss the issue with him/ her. -
Pain when drinking?
AllisonKara replied to Christy929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does. I guess this pain lasts for about five days. And, fades away slowly in this duration. If it pains too much, then you would not be allowed for pureed food intake until second week. -
alternative to protein shake?
AllisonKara replied to tyt221b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you like milk, then you can choose to mix lite protein powders to skim milk. I guess you are not allowed to take pureed food as yet. -
It is a common issue with many people. The pain usually lasts a few days. It might take some time. But, if it's your second week and the pain is still the same, then get yourself thoroughly checked up.

Ankle/Foot Cramps at night
AllisonKara replied to MadB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ankel cramps may occur because of potassium deficiency or excess running. Dehydration might also be causing it. -
How much walking should i be doing?
AllisonKara replied to karinbuck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walking is good but I would suggest you to not overdo it. Increase the distance and speed gradually, make sure that you don't walk too much. And don't compare yourself with other patients of your doctor, your body and its requirements are unique. Hope it helps. -
I completely agree with what Dr-Patient has written. Health care delivery is horrible these days and you never know in which direction you are going to head because the concerned authorities as well as the doctors treat you just like a source of income. But yes, not all of them are insensitive. Don't worry everything will be fine very soon, and stay positive always.

CRAVINGS....& other things....
AllisonKara replied to Bellasarrah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sweet cravings or chocolate cravings are common but you need to manage them intelligently because a single bar of chocolate can add enough calories to your diet to make rigorous workout sessions futile. Whenever you get such cravings I would suggest you to eat something, not necessarily anything sweet, but a bowl of salad or a protein shake, etc. It works most of the times. -
I would say you should visit your doctor and get some medications. I would also like to add that skimmed milk and low fat curd is very beneficial in ailments like the ones mentioned in the thread. If your doctor has not barred you from having these then I would suggest you to include in your diet.

I don't think suffering from any of these ailemnts can act as a hindrance in undergoing the gastric bypass surgery until you have a good experienced doctor to back you. All of these can be dealt with ease if precautions are taken. Though I don't know for sure but I have heard that doctors take care of all these in advance.
-
You cannot compare yourself with others as each of us have different bodies and there is difference between the conditions, diet, etc also. So, I would say you should have patience. However, if you feel that you are not experiencing any improvement then you should consult your doctor. Hope it helps.

Stretching pouch with liquids?
AllisonKara replied to SecretBander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would be better if you take care about it. However, you said that you are eight days post op. So, I guess you would be starting pureed food now. I would recommend that you be sure about changing your meal if you are ready for it or not. -
7 months out of surgery. All I want is fruit to eat!
AllisonKara replied to debbierob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not understand why your doctors are saying no fruits. Fruits are the best source of proteins and vitamins. I hope it is only for some time. -
help! full liquid diet!
AllisonKara replied to katt1584's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you looking for a full liquid diet or a clear liquid diet? I would suggest lite soups for a full liquid diet. -
Only your doctor or surgeon can solve this issue in the best way. However, it is only normal if it is not hurting all the time. Bending is advised to be avoided during this course.

When can I go in the pool?
AllisonKara replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess you should wait for at least two more weeks. Wait until it is fully healed. -
Stomach sleeper
AllisonKara replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a bit difficult to tell. It basically depends on how fast your incisions are healing. Four weeks at most, I'd say. After that, you should not feel much discomfort in sleeping on your stomach. -
I have a question regarding your question. You said that you are 15 days post-op. That means you are currently on pureed foods. As you mentioned you split the lean shake breakfast in two. My question is, have you been okay with the pureed meals? Was there any issue after having your meal?

PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!
AllisonKara replied to drobinson1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess yogurt, soy milk and peanut butter would do just fine in your condition. Do not stress it.
