  1. I was told 20g protein per hour is the limit. I drink pure protein protein powder. Very affordable and tastes dare I say good! Each scoop is 25g protein so i pour 1 scoop along with 1c skim milk for 33 g protein total. I drink that over 3 hours. Then I have a Greek yogurt food 15g protein total over 2 sittings. 48 g so far. I'll have more protein drink, about 1/2 serving for 15 g more and I'm almost at minimum. Then I'll randomly fill in the rest, I had a bit of fish, milk and chicken last night.

    sipping water makes me nauseaous.

I too was getting sick from all the water. Add I'm getting further out though, I love very cold water. I can now get down 4 cups easily every day. Before surgery I couldn't bring myself to drink one cup. It gets easier. In the beginning I suffered from dehydration terribly, until I began to drink my water after a small bit of soup. I think coating my stomach made it go down easier.
  3. hi everyone. i was sleeved on nov. 17th and everything is going stellar--i'm 20 pounds down! but yesterday i woke up with SERIOUS pain on the surgical site where my stomach tissue was removed. the muscles are killing me (ok not literally but the pain is something fierce)--they feel strained and very tender to the touch. i can't move or walk easily and i am really forced to lay down if i don't want to experience pain. there is no bleeding, weeping, redness. the area LOOKS pretty great, but there is slight swelling. this pain is really bad. i am thinking i may have overexerted myself this weekend. i am not picking up anything heavy but i can tell i am healing slowly because as a mom, i cannot sit down all day long. has anyone else had this pain in the surgical sites before? i am hoping i didn't really damage the muscles, which were of course cut into during surgery. help!

    Is it time yet?????

And for me, it is very crazy because milk is one of the only things my Sleevie really likes. Everything else is hit or miss, but my protein drinks with my fat free lactaid go down great.

    Is it time yet?????

My Dr says no milks or milk based food till day 8. Most sleeve issues occur between days 5-7 according to him and if your sleeve were to open (forget the term) it's better to have the belly filled with clear liquids than food. On day 8 is good for milk. I learned the hard way, because I sipped on milk day 6 and was scolded for it!
  6. And my surgeon said that yes. The odds of something going wrong even slightly are about 1%. Very low.
  7. I too was very nervous, and I cried some myself! It is very normal. But I didn't write any letters and I refused to believe the worst about my body, health or doctor and staff. Everyone was so amazing and prayer and meditation was everything for me the night before surgery. I also prayed for my medical team as I was being rolled in. Funny enough, I was so relaxed and calm by the time they put me on the table that I fell asleep BEFORE they administered my anesthesia! Lol so weird to fall asleep on your own. Anyway, I'm here talking today and everything was a success. My Dr. Is awesome and my family great. GOD IS GOOD. you will be fine, and congratulations!
  8. Wow I am keeping up with your story and praying for you and your family.

I also am so happy I'm not alone. The pain I experienced a day ago was worse than after surgery!

severe muscle pain at surgical site!

Hi everyone, thanks for the input. I had no idea about the heat and bleeding being as bad idea and I applied a heating pad to my entire left side, just along the muscles but not on the exact site and I feel so much better today, like the muscles gave a bit and are allowing me to move. It's just where the stomach was removed from my body that hurts, every other place is fine. Still a lot of pain but nowhere near unbearable like before. At this stage should I not use heat, is bleeding still a risk so far out? I don't see anything abnormal looking about the site and yes, the heat feels amazing on it. I don't believe I had stitches and my incisions, which are very small, are now scabbed over and peeling.

    No energy !

i too had the same problem. my friend who was sleeved told me to add just a TOUCH of apple juice to my diet during this full liquid stage, and it helped so much that now i have 4 ounces per day for energy. i feel back to my old self besides pain at the surgical site.
  12. wow yes go back to your surgeon. 4 ounces of Fluid is NOT enough!!! i too have concerns about very rapid weight loss. i am happy to be losing an even 2-3 pounds per week. i think that is best for me as a breastfeeding mom. i don't think it's your weight loss--i think you're just having some post surgery issues that your surgeon can help you with. definitely try to drink in more than 4 ounces a day--that is nowhere near enough liquid. you need AT the VERY least 64 ounces according to my surgeon.
  13. im definitely happy you realized what will and won't work for you! hey, nothing wrong with life experience i have to be honest--i am not really a junk food eater but i am a volume eater. i'll eat real food--just lots of it. i am not a cookie, candy, cake, chip junkie. my budget doesn't allow for too much junk food--we can't afford it anyway. so i don't have to worry about that. so i am not going to be too crazy with tracking--that is what drove me up the wall during my dieting days and it really makes me pretty miserable. i am hoping that my already great food choices stick with me, and i just enjoy life eating normal amounts of food and full full afterwards.

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!

just checking in! how is everyone doing? had my surgery on the 17th, my first week check in with my dr. and everything is going marvelously. i will admit, i cheated the liquid diet on thanksgiving with 1 spoon of each: yams, lima Beans, collard greens and potato salad (which i mashed to mush). i had an awesome holiday, nibbled and pecked on my saucer all day long, no one noticed a difference or questioned me, and i was very happy. i am back on liquid diet today. lol.

    A month out and GAINING?!?

you lost 43 lbs already, i don't think you're going to be a disaster story! are you weiging yourself preferably naked? or wearing the same exact thing every time? when i go to appointments i wear the same thing because my boots weigh 3 pounds alone together! also, when are you weighing yourself? the same time every day? if i weigh myself at night, i usually weigh 1.5 pounds MORE than if i weigh myself that SAME morning! this is my body, surgery or not. so i don't flip when i wake up and weigh 227.2 and then that night i measure and weigh 228.4. consistency is key to revealing your true weight gain/loss. you have to average out your weight loss over a the week to get your true weekly weight loss. hope these things help at least a little.

    Dehydration symptoms?

i struggled with severe dehydration for the first week post op because i breastfeed my daughter, and breastfeeding uses a LOT of Water from the body. my symptoms were constipation, VERY dark, smelly urine, only being able to output tiny amounts of urine, sticky, chapped lips and when i would yawn, i was making no tears. i felt exhausted, sick and just all around nasty. since i suffer from dry skin due to a thyroid issue, that wasn't a telltale sign for me. the way i was able to handle my dehydration was by testing my sleeve for liquid input. i was sipping sooooo slowly and it wasn't helping me at all...no matter how many hours i sipped. i was just so thirsty still. so one day i just sipped, and sipped and sipped a bit quicker until i felt "full". i was able to get down nearly 4 ounces of Fluid before i got the full (NOT OVERfull but just FULL) feeling! that was 4 days out of surgery! i spoke to my surgeon about it and he explained that some people indeed can drink large amounts of fluid post surgery. i am one of those people so i have to be mindful of that by drinking only low/no calorie liquids. i just finished my Protein drink within an hour--8 ounces of fluid. and i do not feel full--i feel satisfied. that is the only way i could handle my dehydration. by drinking larger amounts of liquid than probably most others can. i drink AT LEAST 2 bottles of plain water daily. at least two 8 ounce Protein shakes with Lactaid milk, at least 1 cup of plain fat free milk daily and i also drink at least 4 ounces of a lightly sweetened (i only use real sugar no fakies) drink such as snapple white tea LIGHTLY sweetened or cut apple juice. i do this to help give me energy boosts when i know my breastfeeding is taking a toll on me. i try to do this twice a day for energy but the milk is so good it's rare that i have to. so usually i will just have 4 ounces of a lightly sweetened clear liquid (NO soda! YAY!!!). i can get down all of this liquid and still fit in 2-3 very small meals of either Soup or watered down food (nope it doesn't bother me to make meals into soup). and i feel evenly satisfied all day. i'm down almost 17 pounds since surgery 12? days ago...this is a lifestyle i can definitely keep up with liquids wise. i HAVE to have alot of liquids or i get very sick very quickly.

    Taste in mouth

yes i wake up with it every morning. it tastes a little bit like sickness. i have had it before when not feeling well. i am sure it will go away. every single morning i take a few good sips of my water bottle, which i now keep by the bed, and it helps ALOT.

Horizon NJ Health, 12 month wait?

@@myfatisnotaflaw welcome! yes, i lurked in this thread for MONTHS before my surgery, probably since it began. it is by far one of the most helpful and was a catalyst in me deciding to go forth and have the gastric sleeve. awesome thread, awesome ladies and awesome doctors. congratulations on your journey and all the best.

    Denied

im so sorry you were denied. i do know that many BCBS plans work similarly (including the Medicaid plan--Horizon NJ health) and they are huge sticklers about having particular comorbities if your bmi is below 40. why exactly were you denied? what was their reasoning?

    Nj Family care

i am in nj. medicare covers bariatric procedures but what you have is medicaid...and yes they cover them too. i have horizon nj health as well and i had my surgery on november 17th with Dr. Jordan Garrison. awesome doctor and awesome experience. you have to choose a doctor on the health plan that covers bariatric surgeries and go from there. if you are in northern nj i seriously suggest my doctor, Dr. Garrison. i wish you luck in your journey--you can do it!
  24. wow, i see research has come a long way! a few years ago, when i suggested to my doctor that removal of my tonsils and adenoids was the reason for me becoming obese, i was scoffed at! but i am 100% positive that removal of my tonsils led to me being obese, my current thyroid issues as well as my metabolic issues. i always tell people jokingly that i had to remove my stomach to fix the issues removing my tonsils caused.
  25. you will be fine @@EVILQUEENB! the nervousness is perfectly normal, but when you wake up, you will be very relieved and just want to get healthy and try out your new sleeve! lol.
