Post op protein.

Hi, I had problems with drinking the proteins I made from the powder form right after surgery. I got Pure Protein in the frosty chocolate at Walmart and I could drink those fine. Some people have posted that Isopure bottled drinks are really good. They have lots of fruit type favors, they aren't milky. Maybe you could drink those. I've never tried them personally. I know you can buy them at GNC, but I'm sure you can order them cheaper from vitamin shop. I also use an unflavored protein powder syntax nectar. You can mix it in broths, soups, anything actually. I hope some of this info helps and you find something you can drink. -
Thank you! I have enjoyed this forum. Before I had surgery, I thought I was too old! Not so! I am feeling better now than I have in 20 years! Being off most of the meds I was taking for diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol is wonderful!

I hope you get an approval date very soon. This is a life changing journey you are on. Enjoy it to the fullest!

Missnikki13. I had bypass in October. It is difficult to get all the protein in for a few weeks. Just do what you can and drink a lot of water. I used pure protein frosty chocolate already mixed in the bottles. I tolerated that much better than the powder you mix. I bought mine at walmart. 23 grams of protein. They make a 35 gram bottles also. My sister in-law brought me some she found at a drugstore. That really helped. Pure protein has one with 30 grams and tastes pretty good in the chocolate. I don't like the vanilla in that brand at all. SAMs also carries protein shakes. I buy EAS advantage there, but they only have 17 grams so I use them as a snack usually. When you can have yogurt, dannon light and fit Greek yogurt is reall good. My favorite is the peach. I used the vanilla at first because it didn't have fruit in it and it is good also. You can also buy unflavored protein powder and mix it in your broths, even your yogurt or applesauce. I buy syntax nectar. I hope this helps. -

It's good to hear from you. It will get better! Have you tried the pure protein shakes in a bottle? They are very light, not thick like the protein you mix yourself. That is what got me through the first month. I like the frosty chocolate. I buy mine at walmart. -

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.i had a gastric bypass October13, 2013. I have lost 55 lbs and I feel great! I can do things now I haven't done in years! The most important thing is being off all meds for diabetes and cholesterol. I only take 1/2 a bp pill where I was taking 4 pills a day before surgery. I hope to get off that when I lose more weight. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. I am sure you will do great. I was sore for about 2 weeks, the pain was not bad at all. I was very nervous going into the surgery, but I am so glad I did it! I'll be praying for you. -

Hello redstacey, welcome! Sorry to hear you had complications. I hope you are doing well now. Where did you have surgery?
-
I had gastric bypass in Slidell in October. Dr Clark Warden was my surgeon. I stayed one night in the hospital. Did not have a drain but I did have a catheter. Everything went really well. Minimal pain, mostly soreness. The surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself!

Hi, I had gastric bypass October, 16, 2013. I am 66 years old. My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier. I was on 40 units of lantus and metformin twice a day. I took 4 pills a day for hypertension. I'm off all diabetes meds and take only 1/2 of one of my bp pills. I have lost 55 lbs so far and feel 100% better! I have to say I was really afraid to have this surgery, but I knew I had to do something to have a better quality of life. I can now walk without my hips hurting and climb stairs without getting out of breath. It is so worth it! Good luck to all of you who are in your sixties!
