I have had many stalls myself. I had my surgery on 5/27/14 and have been in a stall for several weeks. I read in your post that you are doing fantastic exercise. Don't be discouraged...you are likely replacing fat with lean muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Lean muscle also burns calories more efficiently and of course is much healthier than fat. I also agree that you must be sure that you are consuming at least 800 calories each day or your body goes into "starvation mode" and holds onto fat. Don't worry all stalls end and weight loss does resume. Best of luck! -

Post Surgery-Weight Stall- WTH?
wilbskinny replied to Pac-woman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know it's very difficult in the beginning to meet all of the requirements--protein, fluids and calories. As time goes by, and you're allowed to increase your intake, you will lose weight quickly again. All the best! -

Post Surgery-Weight Stall- WTH?
wilbskinny replied to Pac-woman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am almost 8 months out from RNY and have had my share of weight-loss stalls. Like everyone says, while frustrating, they do work themselves out in time, A bit of advice, I know this is hard to do early in the post-op phase, but my bariatric educator keeps reminding us that to lose weight, we must take in at least 800 calories per day. Otherwise our bodies go into "starvation" mode and hold on to the weight fearing it isn't going to get enough nourishment. Thus, to keep losing weight, we must try to take in at least 800 calories per day. She also said "plateaus" are normal, and the weight loss does pick up again after the plateau is over. Don't give up hope!! -

What an exciting time for you. I had RNY surgery on 5/27/14 and have done amazingly well. The two weeks on the liquid diet will fly by, trust me. Now that you have a surgery date, you will find it's easier to stick to the plan than you can imagine. I was a big time food addict and had no trouble with hunger or urges to cheat. It's so exciting that you are strongly motivated to succeed! Best of luck!

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
wilbskinny replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 52 and had RNY surgery 5/27/14. I did very well after surgery and continue to do well. I'm down 70# since surgery, 95# since I began my journey in Nov 2013. I couldn't be happier with my decision to have surgery and the results. Best of luck to you! -
Migraines and bypass surgery
wilbskinny replied to brokenangel84's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi...I was a fellow migraine sufferer. After trying multitudes of medications over 25+ years, I was finally put on Topamax. It decreased my migraines, but I still had 4-5/month. I had RNY gastric bypass on 5/27 and I haven't had a single migraine since!! I was weaned off my high dose Topamax before surgery. Oh, I get an occasional headache (not migraines), and it's always because I haven't had enough water--and it is relieved by drinking more Water. What a relief, just one of the many advantages of surgery. Good luck to you! -

Preop Diet Day #2, all liquids including 4 HMR protein shakes a day and sugar free liquids plus lots of water--I have to do this for 9 days, until Midnight 5/26 before surgery 5/27. So far, it's going pretty well. The HMR shakes are quite tasty. Looking forward to my pre op history & physical on 5/22 and surgery on 5/27!! Can't wait, so anxious and excited!! -

Barbbcute, Good luck with the wedding! Keep on track (time) with your protein shakes and fluids. May be difficult with wedding timing, but very important for you! I have 3 cats myself. I'm doing mad housecleaning this week to be ready for surgery too. We sound like a pair, glad to have you as a friend -

Hey Barbbcute,, Thanks for the reply...good luck to you as well. Do you have to do any sort of 9 day pre op Protein shake/clear liquid diet? I do for my surgeon, It shrinks the liver to make the surgery easier. I begin on May 18th. I have my pre op physical May 22. Time is flying, getting apt. ready now, buying catfood/litter/water ahead, so I won't have to carry them post op. It's ok to make me your friend...I tried and the site wouldn't let me. We can support each other throughout!! I'd like that. -

My surgery is scheduled for May 27th and I'm looking for a buddy to go through the WLS journey together. I am so anxious, nervous and most of all, excited! Looking for support. -
I have my surgery date, 2 weeks from tomorrow. I'm nervous, anxious and most of all...excited! What can I expect during the hospital stay? Any information about the immediate post-op period would be helpful. How is the recovery, on average? Having Roux-en-Y. How long in hospital? I know every case is different. Any pointers for items to take to the hospital, etc? Information, please!!

Any May 28th Surgery's Date..
wilbskinny replied to candesjarlais's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats on your surgery date. I got ins. approval, awaiting my date. I'm nervous now too. You can make it through Memorial Day and all the food. Plan your shakes so you can have one when everyone else is "eating." Also, don't forget all of the sugar free drinks like boullion, Propel, etc. you can have (if allowed on your preop liquid diet--they're on mine). Remember, it's mind over matter. Have faith in yourself, you will succeed!
